@@SheffieldMadePlants I already have I will look again. I was trying to buy a sansi grow bulb. And their are so many. I have tons of grow lights everywhere. There's just so many sansi's. I guess I didn't finish my sentence sorry
I'm a hospital nurse and a plant lady. I approve of this remedy. 👍
Is it a Sheffield video if one plant at least doesn't get shown going in the trash xD
😂
😂
😂
Yes, this! 😂
He feels our pain ! Some plants are so fussy !!
I just love this guy! I love his dry sense of humor and def the accent! I learn from him each time I watch one of his videos.
I recently had surgery on my foot. I am bedridden for this month. My husband is watering and taking care of my many plants. I’m getting well enough that I’m now getting a little concerned about their state. Eeek! My husband is a great guy and has told me that for any plant that dies, he will buy me a new one. But these are my babies!
Get well soon!
Good luck with your foot......and plants!
I've told him this very thing! 🌱🌱🌱
Get well soon
For us Americans: 1 liter = 4.2 cups
Or you could do what I’ve done: save a two liter bottle from a beverage and just use that. No specific measurements needed. 😉 I have both one and two liter bottles (from my alkaline waters as well as my sodas) and they work great plus it’s less for the landfills.
Thank you 😊
Liter is a little more than a quart.
Liters exist in America...
@@unlimitedbug Of course they do. That’s not a question. It’s just that in measurements, liters are not as frequently used as say ounces, cups, etc. I mean, of course we know what a liter is. We buy sodas in liter and two liter bottles. 😏
I actually got to synthesize aspirin from salicylic acid in my chemistry lab course. It's quite a simple process. And neat to learn the reaction can go both ways and you can dissolve it to get back to salicylic acid! Chemistry is so cool especially when I get to apply it to my favorite planty hobbies.
I always put an aspirin in the vase of fresh flowers in the water so they stay fresh longer.
Well that's new. I've never ever heard someone talking about aspirine for houseplants. I will try it. Also, we've learned that Richard has a plant called Fanny.
It's been done before, some people even used multi-vitamin or calcium pill in a pinch, just have to dig deeper on utube, though it wasn't well explained as SMP did. If I have to guess why it's normally not recommended for this method is that the dosage is harder to control because the material amounts in it differ from companies to companies making it and may contain some other ingredients that plants may not need or could possibly cause harm, not to mention the purity of the pill, so seasonal gardeners usually just buy plant solutions (way more expensive) to do the work because the result is consistent.
You should try growing aquatic plants in a fish tank it will be a nice challenge for a plant master like you.
This!!!!
Will he survive the melt? 😂😂😂
@@bjsteg79 I bet he will
Pretty handy with heart attacks too
I see a croton in the background. it's a major magnet for scale insects and spider mites, the reason why a lot of people avoid them. I hope you're more lucky.
i work in a pharmacy, so that hack is very interessting to me! I had a big thrips problem. Its under controll now but it dealt a lot of damage to some of my plants. I will bring them some aspirin now haha. Also funfact: Where i live acetlylsalicylic acid is shortened to ASS. Some packages justcsay ASS. I'm a grown adult and i still giggle about that
I love your sense of humor !! have an awesome day my dear plant friend
Thank you! You too!
I’ve heard this is good for tomatoes but never heard it benefits houseplants. It’s on my weekend chores!
I will try it on my tomato 🍅 🍅 s then.
Good Morning Mr Sheffield!!! Yes sir, aspirin can help our plants as you described!!
Did you know you can also use Potassium pills also.... the potassium and phosphorus help your indoor plants when watering
Didn’t know they existed
@@SheffieldMadePlants yes sir.... in with the vitamins and not very expensive but gosh they sure help the indoor plants... I put one or 2 tablets in my water and let them dissolve shake shake shake and water potassium loving plants and new babies to encourage rooting and flowering 💐
Great Timing
Huh! Knew about adding asprin to vases for cut flowers, but never thought of missing as a pest preventative. May try this as i don't love my spider mite magnets.
HRT for plants 💊🪴 😊
I thought this only worked on tomato plants 🤯 ... Glad I saw this vid!!
I had heard of aspirin (or willow) to stimulate root growth for cuttings.
Thanks Mr Sheffield… For both the Asprin advise & the free troubleshooting guide
much appreciated 🇦🇺
My pleasure 😊
Rich, you are just full of great knowledge this early morning. Who would have thought, aspirin! I might just do this test myself. lol All your plants are looking mighty robust I shall say, your house is so cool. My plants....some live and some die I'm on very hard well water and I'm still waiting on my stress coat(I think it's coming by horse and cart) Peace.
Thank you 😊
I just got into plants. My first was a monstera and I was happy with that for the last 6 months (she was a project to save) but now that she’s thriving, I fell down a slippery slope and managed to buy like 7 plants in the last month (including your favorite, the calathea 😂) I actually wanted one after seeing your video on them, and I got a rattlesnake calathea and she is gorgeous. Your videos are so informative! I recently got a Aglaonema White Valentine because the variegations are beautiful. I’m not sure if you have an older video on them that I just haven’t seen, but it would be cool to see a video on them 😊
Thanks! Not got that plant yet
You can also add dispersible aspirin to warm water and soak your feet for twenty minutes once a week to keep them soft
Salicylic acid comes in pure powder form, should give more control over aspirin pills since it has no fillers
I've used it for a while. Works great. 150-200 mg / liter water. Crush the tablets to a fine powder. Spray once ever 10 - 12 days. Peak auxin / cytokinine level in your plants is said to be around 7 days after you spray them, gradually declining after around day 7.
I combine with pasteurized milk, 1 part to 9 parts water. Use the milk with most fat, it will have the most enzymes you are after. Don't use long milk. It has been heated so much that the important enzymes are no longer present / not working. I never tried fresh unpasteurized milk, but i believe it will work even better, as it will have 8-9 times more of the enzymes than pasteurized milk.
Should add that I apply the water-milk solution some hours after the water-aspirin solution.
Never had problems with fungus. Only problem I've had are flies on tomato plant and strawberry plants.
have you tried it with roses?
@@ldt6513the water /milk combination is good for black spot on roses
Thank u 🙏🙏
Imagine that hmm I trying it thanks for the info a big hello from australia
I live in Phoenix AZ...currently with temps of 115 degrees F. Yesterday I brought home a fern. Sigh. It's in a 2' pot and sooo cute. I couldn't resist. But I have a plan. We'll see how it goes. My Croton is definitely getting the aspirin treatment. It's outside and has to be watered every day. It wilts terribly. I will put it in a bigger pot tomorrow in hopes that with more soil, it will have more water available to it. Fingers crossed. Suggestions welcome.
🤞
I'm also in Phoenix, AZ and I'm afraid of putting my babies outside because of the heat. If I put them outside in all of this record-breaking heat, I might need the asprin.😅
@@donnawilson4602 I wake up with the daylight so I put them out for an hour or two. I set a timer. But not in the sun.
@@donnawilson4602I would love some of your heat 14c in UK, complete white sky 😢
What a perfect time for this video, my whole collection was just infected with rust, the orchids, spider plants, philodendrons, and even my air plants....gonna have to try asprin bc several of my plants are now reduced to cuttings
Thank you! I’ll give out a try. I fight with those mf spidermites all the time…
This is such a great tip, thank you! I'm not getting anything besides regular care instructions when I google the plant name together with salicylic acid, though.
Most aspirin come in 100mg, so you might need 3 tablets per litre. You can also get dispersible aspirin which is easier to dissolve in water.
Hello pharmacy assistant here :) just remember that the dissolvable and regular pill are created with different pill filament ingredients!
Im not a plant expert, but i just want to bring attention that the soluble asprin would make the water fizzy as well
Only until it dissolves. The active medicinal ingredients are the same though. I imagine it is an added carbonate of some sort that makes it fizz, but I'm not sure on that.
@@moiraslater8526 unless if you contact the property holder of that specific product directly, theres no telling what the actual specifics of the ingredients are 😂 drug companies arent legally required to write those things down
so i guess its best to just buy the brand specific product the plant videos use, thats the safest bet imo
Wrong.
Uncoated ASA- 325 MG.
@@user-hq6iw1yv4f can you elaborate??
Love this tip. Thank you for sharing.
I wish I will be able to put my photos of old 4-5 years old geranium which has 10-12 small leaves and 5 bouquets of white beautiful flowers after aspirin
This is SO interesting! I-m definitely going to have a go. I guess one rule of thumb is avoid using aspirin on plants with very delicate leaves (ferns are a good example).
I use salicylic acid on my face to keep spots at bay. Today I learned it's good for plants too
Come to think of it maybe I do too
Interesting 🤔 I never heard of this before 😀🇨🇦
Thank you. You're so good
Thank you 😊
I take white willow bark concentrate as an alternative to aspirin for chronic pain since it's easier on my stomach. I wonder if that'd work for plants too🤔
It should! Definitely worth trying!
“You don’t want to turn your plants into Aspirin junkies.” 😂
😂😂 you are very funny. On a serious note, thanks for the tip.
Not funny. It prevents blood clots
Very interesting 👍
Mr. Sheffield was dead on about using aquarium water conditioner to remove chlorine and other heavy metals from tap water economically (I ain't about to waste my precious dollars buying distilled water!) So I'm gonna give this a go. And maybe toss down a couple to deal with my arthritis.
a water filter jug removes chlorine and other nasties
@@logiciskey7 True, although the conditioner is quite inexpensive and a few drops is all you need for each gallon of tap water.
I wonder if this will help my Polynesian Ivy combat the powdery mildew it's fighting.
Google it
Should do
Wow! This is cool. Thank you for the great information
You bet!
Thank you Mr Sheffers : )
Completely non-plant related info: salicylic acid is also one of the key ingredients in skin peels and exfoliations. For years I've been grinding up aspirin (non-coated, basic kind), mixing it with water and getting a peel for pennies. 15-30 minutes later, lovely smooth skin.
Oh wow, I’ve been buying the expensive salicylic acid, I’ll try this ❤
Good solution thank you😊
Wonder if it would work on outside plans? Like grapes
Check first
Richard, how do I know which light to buy? Please help
Ill give that a miss thanks.. 👍
How about trying some willow bark in the soil mix 🤔
My plants don't currently have a headache, but they are suffering from severe depression due to lack of sunlight. Maybe I should try antidepressants.
Worth a shot
First time I hear about aspirin for plants but seems to work very well, now this is my question should we make of this a routine or just apply it when we notices plants getting sick ? 🤔
It's a preventative so apply once a month to suitable plants, or plants that are susceptible to bugs
I have plenty of willow trees in my backyard. Can I instead drop a bunch of mulch style willow tree bark pieces into my soil and let nature does its thing?
Not sure about that 😅
@@SheffieldMadePlants guess I’ll pull a Richard and find out how the slow release version of natural Aspirin works…
please someone correct me, I am not so sure but in my region the medicine Asprin (Acetylsalicylic Acid) is sold as a blood thinner for humans to prevent heart attack due to blood clotting..... is this same what we can use for our sick plants?
Same thing.
Yes. It 's an anti coagulation
An analgesic. pain killer
An antipyretic. lowers temperature
I am deathly allergic to aspirin if I consume it however, I would love to try this on my house plants. Does goodies powder work at the same or does it need to be the aspirin tablet? Thank you.
Not sure what that is
bark of willow tree and wild strawberries is a great source of natural aspirine
Asa discovered in China -- willow bark.
Aspirin is a trade name.
ASA is generic.
@@user-hq6iw1yv4f interesting i thought the chemical common name was salisylic acid
I just tried dispersible aspirin for an Obregonia Denegrii that is turning black and dying........
At 2.51 in, what is that plant!? I have one (more reds in stems) and have no idea what it is lol
Fittonia
so all this time they had a headache
😂
Looks like it. 😅
😂
Great video
Thanks!
Could i spray this on an outdoor oleander plant it has aphids?
Yep
Possibly a dumb question 😆 but would this work with Leca?
In terms of what?
Would you be able to substitute White Willow Bark instead?
Isn’t Salicylic Acid used in serums for your face as well? Great now my plants and I are using anti aging serums
Should work, yup
Not sure
Would this help if currently going through treatment for spidermites? Or should I wait until treatment is finished?
It’s more of a long term preventative measure.
Thanks. How about orchids or amaryllis?
I’d google it to check
@@SheffieldMadePlants Will do thanks.
Would dissolvable aspirin be easier?
Yeah should be
Would this work ward off aphids and other pests on outside plants?
It’s not a deterrent. It helps in recovery
Hi sir how are you 😊
This is kind of off the subject but I have a question. I ordered an anthurium from Facebook marketplace. It is healthy looking but the blooms are not bright red like others I've seen. It's color is more like a tomato that's not ripe. Kinda greenish/ orangey. Is this a different type or is it lacking some nutrient? Love your vids! Another question: what's wrong with watering evert day? Lol😂
Not sure on that tbh. Not much experience with that type of anthurium
Where did you get the shelf unit that has your begonias on it
Amazon I think

It also just lies. It doesn’t actually know anything. Maybe give it a rest, yeah?
Do not use sulfuric acid either 💀

So is it one tablet to a gallon of water?
A liter 🤦🏼♀️
How about adding vitamin D to our plants? Maybe it could help some plants that needs a lot of sunshine?
will test afte this vid and answer afterwards to this comment
I only found 325mg not 300 mg
I wouldn’t worry about it. You don’t put a liter of water on one plant. The difference is minimal
