David Gilmour is the reason for me to play guitar, listen to rock music, buy tons of guitars and pedals and subscribe to this channel. For me, the best guitar solo ever is Fat Old Sun Live In Gdansk version. Specifically that version. I don’t believe nobody can replicate that guitar solo ever again. Including David himself. That was just one time thing for entire world to listen. That solo is out of this world. And on top of that, I’ve never heard a telecaster sounds that amazingly in my life. I have no words for that solo. And I think On the turning away is my number two. And Sorrow comes in third.
Yup, yes sir. And I still can't believe I was there to listnen to it, ~20 meters from the Man himself. It was even bigger of a surprise, because that was my personal nr. 1 Pink Floyd song (not the best, just the favourite). And I had no expectation whatsoever that it will be on the setlist, because it was so relatively unknown. My seventeen-year-old mind was blown.
Loved that Comfortably Numb and Time top 2 for me, with Money 3rd Excellent playing Some that get overlooked... Yet Another Movie Poles Apart Hey You On The Turning Away
I absolutely loved this! The Time flew. Really couldn't believe that it had been over 40 minutes long because I was so enthralled by it! You are so close to being the man! Way to go!
You can’t make a bad pick with gilmour solos but “hey you” is a notable absence for me, under rated and awesome track overall. Your playing and tone is epic, couple of times I drifted off and thought I had the album on.
I agree that the solo from Time (entire track) is a masterpiece, the studio version tone and phrasing are awe inspiring! Have you heard the live Italian tv broadcast version of Mihalis?
Congratulations! David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist and singer, Pink Floyd is definitely my favorite band e The Dark Side of the Moon is the best album ever. You paid an extraordinary tribute.
I agree... without a doubt Time solo is and always will be the greatest solo ever and I base this on its simplicity... no one has ever made the guitar sound so sweet using so few notes...
I just finished listened. Omg I so agree Time is brilliant. The solo from Sorrow, in any tongue, fat old sun and on the Turning away are also amazing. Gilmour os brilliant. So is Kelly. Well done.
Your top 3 aligns with my own but I would put Dogs at 2 and Comfortably Numb at 3. I have always argued that Time is DG's greatest solo. It's perfect in every way. It's as close as we have to hearing God play a guitar solo.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar That was a masterful playing Kelly. I’m impressed with your dedication and passion for playing the solos correctly. Well -before bedtime I’m gonna dig into your “money” solo tutorial! 🎸thank you again!
Most people rank Comfortably Numb at 1. But I was glad to see you put Time there. It’s also my favorite. High Hopes and On The Turning Away round out my top 3.
This is awesome Kelly. Your playing is absolutely fantastic. I really enjoyed the pigs solo. There is a little blooper in your video at minute 16.16 you mention that have a cigar is off the album animals.
Pleasantly surprised to see Time at the top of the list as it’s my favorite song from the band and solo from David. You play all of his solos with clarity and skill - I so enjoyed listening to your reasoning and choices. Great picks! Time will take me to my grave-it has always resonated with me throughout my life. So glad to hear it validated as your top choice.
Agree with top 2. Time solo is always on max in my car (Bose shaking the windscreen). Absolutely magic. Invokes emotion. That is the secret ! Not 1000 notes per second. DG master jedi.
Great Video...All these choices are perfect....Hey You is not my fav. sing , solo however is fire, the final cut is cool too, but the album is dull as is too most Floyd songs after Animals , which is their peak, Yes a few great songs on the Wall, but too me after a few shining solos on the final cut & the great About Face solo record, Gilmour lost alot of his uniqueness and flare, but hey still did what he did , and its awesome...Time and Dogs are his finest moments too me.
Fantastic work here Kelly. A great list. I must say that your guitar sang and absolutely spoke to me on the solos to Dogs....epic! Wonderful playing and tone on all.
"Childhood's End" and "The Gold It's In The..." are two underrated songs with therefore underrated solos, both from the most underrated Pink Floyd album on all Time ;)
Wow all three solos of dogs! Nobody but nobody has no find out tutorials on anything regarding “dogs” and especially the beautiful acoustic intro which gets overlooked. Do you have lessons for all these top 10 solos? This is amazing. Your playing is amazing. I’m really impressed
Awesome playing of “money“! I think I finally found someone that’s as obsessed as I am with David Gilmour and his soaring guitar. hoping you have a lesson for “money“ I will look for it. I think I found my go to David Gilmour teacher/guru thank you Kelly Dean👍👍
Great content! Thank you. Other great solos imo : Careful w that axe eugene (pompeii), Childhood's end, One of these days, Mother, Hey you, Marooned, Wearing the inside out, On the turning away
The dogs solos are amongst my favorites. It’s really hard to pick favorites- there’s so many. I’m hoping you have tutorials on those amazing solos you did on dogs Wow
The Time solo was the first Gilmour solo I learned. Next I learned was Money, then (and still perfecting) Comfortably Numb. You are an incredible player. What drew me to the channel and the solo you did not include is Marooned. It broke new ground and along with the video that supported it later, still has an impact. Thanks for making a great contribution and keep going!
Great list! I would still have had Comfortably numb as my number one. But I really like your ranking. I'm also glad you didn't dismiss songs from the post Waters era, like most people do. I think there are great songs on AMLOR and especially on The Division Bell. I would have added Rattle that lock solo too. The complete version (either live or from the DeLuxe edition) is - in my opinion - glorious. Thanks again!
This channel is going to go places. The quality of these vidoes is top notch. As a 19 year old guitar player, you inspire me to pick up the guitar and play
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar - You are welcome! Lots of great picks in your list Kelly! I can’t get myself to pick my favorites today, there are so many, but I’m definitely glad you included Dogs, The Blue, and Shine On, but for me, even stopping there feels too much like trying to pick, I just can’t do it, so much Gilmour goodness!!
Awesome video but I'd put comfortably numb at number 1 it's just truly amazing I consider it the best guitar solo ever not just best gilmore solo I'm not mad at you for having time at number one though because that would be my number two. If you like that solo you should check out Thomas75s' cover of it on RUclips he added some sweet improvisation that I think youd enjoy
43:08 to be exact. I watched every second. A Huge Compliment to you, not only are you a Master at playing, you are also a Master of Tone. You are most welcome. I’m trying. My Son tells me I’m playing Elevator music. I lucked out and got above the minimums on my channel but it’s a struggle every time. I’m just doing what I’m capable of at my experience level.
I love all the Pink Floyd Gilmour solos but some of the solo solos (ha) are great too. Let's Get Metaphysical from About Face is awesome. He also contributed solos to Supertramp's Brother Where You Bound and Paul McCartney's No More Lonely Nights.
I have always wanted to play guitar but never got to though. You are a wonderful player. You do have a mastery of the instrument. I very much enjoyed the video, thank you.
Great list! One if my dark horse entries would be David's solo on Not Now John from The Final Cut. It's almost frenzied in its design and very angry. The solo's on Time and Dogs are good examples. Doubling the lead guitar creates a more powerful and dynamic tone IMO.
I think that on shine on you crazy diamond (the second full track) he plays a lap steel guitar solo. By the way, excelent performance on all solos and a great tone there! Awesome 💪
Clearly a labor of love. Great video. I love Animals and think the Pigs solo, with a much more aggressive and improv feel, should definitely slot in the top 10 but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Watching your breakdowns show what a master Gilmour is with 1/2, full and 1 1/2, and double bends. Amazing. As a bedroom guitarist, this helps figure some of these licks out a lot.
Great List. My all time favourite is Mihalis from the first solo album. It has a touch of Fleetwood Mac Albatros mixed with an healthy measure of Jeff Beck 75/76 era thing.
How can you call yourself a fan and not put Raise my Rent from his first solo album? It is right up there with Comfortably Numb which was incidentally composed at the same time but put aside because there was already a similar song (Raise my Rent) on the album.
I believe he used a lap steel guitar for the solos on echoes (studio??) as well as shine on your crazy diamond parts 6-9. And also one of these days. At least I’m pretty sure he plays it when he plays that song live.
Awesome video and top 10 list. Gilmour is God and was shaped and creative force for Pink Floyd (the whole band) music. Pink Floyd is deeper than the Mariana trench, higher than any satellites orbiting earth, cooler than an iceberg in a river of liquid nitrogen, hotter than a solar flare of lava spouted from the sun, smoother than a quantum stabilized atom mirror, more Zen than 10,000 Buddhist monasteries, larger than what we know as our universe. Their music is an enigma that is beyond what we are capable of comprehending.
I never really thought about doing another month type series. However, Gilmour month has been a great success on my channel. Might keep the train going and do someone else, like you said.
Very impressive and instructive. Thank you. I will have to look and see whether you have done any Peter Green - his solo on the live recording of I've Got A Mind To Give Up Living is fantastic I think. Despite growing up in London in the 60s and 70s, hardly any people I knew bothered with Pink Floyd. Being English we regarded them as being to Public School "Middle Class" and too much in the head and not in the heart like the majority of working class groups. If you were British you would understand the set-up that existed here and Floyd seemed rather distant and lacking in warmth. We Don't Need No Education when they sent some of their kids to the best schools. That summed them up to many people. Waters, the bass guitarist, said John Lennon was very dismissive of them at Abbey Road Studios and I think that was the way they were viewed over here by many people.
my favourite solo of shine on is the 3rd one, IMO it is the most emotional DG solo, the phaser, the fuzzy overdrive a bit over the edge of break up, and specifically, the double bends he does make it sound like the guitar is weeping (accidental Beatles reference) but seriously, it is like the guitar is crying on that note, you need a little more gain on the third solo, and phaser set the speed at about 12:30 another solo that is similar in emotonalness is a little underrated, it's the one from "the thin ice" it sounds like the guitar is screaming in pain, rather than crying, it sounds like you stabbed someone, how gut-wrenching the thin ice solo is
TIme solo is by far nr 1 - and to be honest I'm a lot of time surprised how it's marginalised in these kind of rankings as nr 3 or even lower... I know Comfortably Numb one (love it to bits) is the probably the most impressive for regular Joes, but I'm happy that actual guitarists choices seem to be bit different. If I myself were to choose some "underrated" ones, there will be definitely the one from "Mother", the one from "Any Colour You Like" and the one from "Fletcher Memorial Home".
Great stuff and great list! Time is the best! The only thing that doesn't sound spot on is the 2nd solo to Dogs... It sounds like you have reversed which guitar is higher in the mix. It sounds like the other lead line should be the louder one. I might also add the Comfortably Numb solo is best live, because the live version has him climbing at the end with those four doubled bends. Adds an incredible ending...
im not sure, are you using a chorus with these or are you playing with the original song with the original solo, cause it kind of sounds like it could either one
“David Gilmour can do more with one note than most other guitar players can do with the whole fretboard” - Dave Mustaine
100 percent that’s what makes him so good. It’s not like he ever really shreds it’s the way he bends and pics the right notes

One if my dark horse entries would be David's solo on Not Now John from The Final Cut. It's almost frenzied in its design and very angry. Perhaps Gilmour was taking his anger at Roger Waters out on his poor Strat?
FYI, I think one of David's secret guitar hacks is his use of the technique of double-tracking some of his slower solo's. The solo's on Time and Dogs are good examples. Doubling the lead guitar creates a more powerful and dynamic tone IMO.
Almost every one of these solos on this list are double tracked. I do it all the time. Tricky business nailing a solo twice exactly the same way.

my favourite solo of shine on is the 3rd one, IMO it is the most emotional DG solo, the phaser, the fuzzy overdrive a bit over the edge of break up, and specifically, the double bends he does make it sound like the guitar is weeping (accidental Beatles reference) but seriously, it is like the guitar is crying
on that note, you need a little more gain on the third solo, and phaser set the speed at about 12:30

im not sure, are you using a chorus with these or are you playing with the original song with the original solo, cause it kind of sounds like it could either one
Double tracking most of them. Certainly not playing over the original solo.
Just a note: In Any Tongue, Pompei 2016? For me in top 3.
