I bought a Chipolo card for my wallet and within 6 months it stopped working. I contacted customer support and they needed pictures, etc which I sent but then I did not receive any feedback from them. I did try to email them numerous times with no response. I trashed the card and moved on. Beware of the warranty and customer support, from my experience it was not acceptable.
Which takes way more time to find. I’ve had moments where I lost something, played the ping sound for my phone and still took me a while to find it because I couldn’t tell where the sound was coming from. This pretty much required me to move from room to room so that I could differentiate the sound volume only to find out my phone fell under the bed. Having the ability to just walk straight to where your item is, is way faster than trying to listen to its location because once your close enough, the sound is good enough to find the item. What’s not very helpful is when you have to walk around the house just to listen to a sound. The U1 tells me in which room the item is in, the sound alone doesn’t when you’re standing in front of multiple rooms
Yeah the AirTag speakers almost sound as if they were desgined to be as nonspecific about where the sound is coming from as possible. its weird but oh well@@jesspeed
Tbh I’m trying to find something for that purpose. I’m about to purchase a wallet case so I have less to keep track of. I have lost multiple wallets, etc…. But a few days ago I lost my keys, phone, and my weed! I’m over it lol I want something to maybe help find my phone/wallet/keys via family/friends if I lose them again. I have to get a new phone because it died, and its last location (via maps) did not help me. My phone hasn’t been turned on so who knows if it’s been found :’^( Next time, I may be able to at least hear the tracker even if my phone is dead…. Now to figure out what I should use lol
Thank you for the review. Would you happen to know if the card warns you (audibly or otherwise) when the battery is near depletion? That would allow for a bit of peace of mind.
What would also be helpful is to compare the loudness of this Chipolo Card Spot vs. that of Tile's Card speaker. The Tile Card's speaker is satisfyingly loud enough where I know I could find it if my wallet were to slip between plush pillows or cushions (which is also a real concern of mine when compared to the AirTag).
At 7:45 it looks like the raised text on whatever card you put in the Nomad wallet's external pocket have actually marked/discoloured the leather. Wow, that's not good.
I very rarely comment on videos, but you really did an excellent job with this review. I do favor the precision tracking feature of the airtag, but the slim design with the Chipolo card is appealing. I may try the apple tag holder for my current minimalist wallet and see what my thoughts are. I had purchased an apple tag wallet from Vionentus, but it is a tri-fold style and not as 'minimalist' as I would like for it to be. I will definitely keep the Chipolo card in mind and see what I think. Thank you again for the excellent video review!
Maybe I'm skeptical but where is the relation between a replaceable battery meaning that it's somehow shorter life? I don't really see the correlation. Not a dig at you, more of a dig at chopolo.
The reason you didn’t hide the chipolo and search for it, was because anyone could see the huge disadvantage to the AirTag. How the hell it can be better then an AirTag. It is using the old find my technology instead of the AirTag (or AirPod pro 2) technology? Where it shows the exact location with a compass until u exactly there. Within centimeters This old on einst show a location on the map and then say with u. I stream of helping u to find. Only better is the size.
Curious as to how this would work in an aluminum wallet like the Ridge wallet. I know, from experience, that the Tile Slim is severely limited inside the RFID blocking Ridge wallet, so I assume it would perform similarly. But, seeing as they're $35 and doesn't have a replaceable/rechargeable battery and no U1 chip, I'm probably going to pass, on this version at least...
Can you show where it says that? Pretty sure it is 2 years. The packaging says 2 years. If the packaging is wrong, they've a big problem. I agree a one year is too short. But two years at $30 isn't bad and replacements are only $15 for another two years, kind of like an iPhone upgrade program! May have new colors or features by then too!
Andrew, you didn’t over the topic of wallets that are lined with material that blocks and do not permit NFC devices from obtaining credit card info. Will your tracking device work inside of these types of wallets.
Most of those wallets should work just fine. I obviously can't test them all, but with the couple I have, they did not impact the card's ability. That said, any material intended to block RFID signals may have a slight impact on the range of the Bluetooth signal.
Can you turn off the sound on both the chipolo and AirTag? I’m thinking if you wanted to have maximum stealth just in case someone stole your wallet, the sound going off is going to alert them and they’ll just toss it out or look for it since now they know they’re being traced/tracked. The issue with the AirTag is the thickness and bump it brings which is why I really want to consider the chipolo. I could hide it behind another credit card or pocket. It just possibly buys more time for me to find it before the thief inspects each and every pocket lol
Hey David! Yes, it actually would have made it thicker. I asked then that same question out at CES and the coil would add thickness or a smaller battery. They didn't want to hurt the battery life and I agree. That means you'd need to charge it regularly, which probably wouldn't happen. Then you end up with a dead battery when it is least convenient.
What I can't seem to find anywhere is the last know location on a map, does it update if the wallet has moved? i.e stolen and on the move? or is it the singular last known location and that's it?
The U1 chip is what makes the AirTag special. I use it all of the time, especially when the environment is too loud to hear the sound. For that reason, I’m out.
Sure, but some tracking ability is better than none. I bet if you lose your wallet you’ll wish you had the chipolo vs nothing (assuming you don’t have an AirTag in your ‘bulky’ wallet).
@@kierentaylor yea I have an AirTag. It is bulky but I’m ok with that because I am in noisy areas a lot & my old tile never worked for me because I couldn’t hear it.

I like this but the shortcomings are a deal breaker. Trying to locate small items such as a wallet, UW support is a must. The sound alone isn’t enough if you’re out in the street, at an airport, in a bar. You need precision locating. For luggage, backpacks, bikes not so much but definitely for a wallet or keys. Second the non replaceable battery can be an issue. The battery on my airtag I keep in my car died suddenly with no warning. I was able to replace it that day. Whit this is have to order a new one and wait for delivery. Suppose you’re on vacation? That means your wallet is not trackable and you can’t just walk into a store and buy a batter and get it back up and running. Same day. I would only use this on items that are not a high priority. Definitely not my passport wallet.
The play sound is the only thing I need, how in the hell nobody come out with this idea 25 years ago already!!!...ordering right now!!!......OHHHH...my f...god!!! Where I put my wallet!!, I need the credit card!
Honestly, the Tile Slim has been my tried and true solution for my wallet and would have been the far better comparison to this product. My AirTag works well for my keys too, but Tile has been at this longer than just about anyone and have proven themselves (to me, at least) as convenient and reliable time and time again.
Right now, only Chipolo and AirTag trackers show in the Find My app, thus making it my device of choice for comparison. I agree Tile has a wallet tracker too and if this video does well, I'll do that comparison next! This was intended as a more all-around review with a small comparison to AirTag. The other could be a dedicated video. Share this vid and I'll get to work on that!
Tile is horrible. It doesn’t even give you an accurate current location. It just goes off of the last known location. They have a paywall behind very basic features that the AirTag has by default. Far larger amount of devices the AirTag can connect with since darn near everyone has an iPhone. There is no comparison
Mine is really unreliable. It tells me that my wallet has been left behind all the time (eg 3 times yesterday) and yet it's with me. I'm considering requesting a refund.
The U1 is overrated here. It's much louder than AirTag and is faster. If you use the U1, you have to move your phone around to get a position in 3D space and then track the wallet. In my testing, it is much faster to just make noise and get within 15 feet.
Horse for courses I guess, I like I don’t have to wake the house up at 4am looking for my wallet or keys after the kids have moved them. The U1 For me personally is awesome. Plus the kids love playing games using the phones U1 and they can play as much as they wanna as I can change the battery 😃
Non replaceable battery! Their claim that the battery "will last up to 2 years" is simply false! Battery issues are not covered by warranty, mine died after only 2 weeks!! The shop I bought mine from said that almost every customer had been back within a couple of months! They refunded me without even looking at it! They removed this product from their shelves after carrying it for 6 months. I wish I had done my homework better as it seems like most have had the same experience as I had! DON'T BUY!

If it doesn't have UWB, how can it send talk to other people's phones to send me the location?

You mentioned 2 year battery but the official Chipolo product page mentions 1 year. At the cost of $30 I don’t think is worth it.
