- As I have stated previously, there is only so much room in my house and money in the bank, so when I have large fragrance hauls.....I need to get rid of perfumes I do not wear or like. Here are my recent declutters..

I also purchased MHScherzo! It just smells horrenton me! Luckily it was on sale! What I did love is their peau Santal! So warm and cozy!
Misses for me are Sarah Jessica Parker SJP NYC Crush and Jennifer Lopez JLove and JLust. Crush is too coconut-y for me and JLove and JLust are just too generic.

This may sound odd, but for myself I learned not to spray perfume on myself when I am too hungry. I have ruined some of my perfumes by spraying when I was hungry, and then they made me feel really nauseated- a specific kind of nausea that you feel when you are really hungry and get a headache from being too hungry along with a rumbly stomach. Like you I have also ruined fragrances for myself by spraying in the wrong season, too.

Hello Chris! ❤️ A declutter is good for the soul, and the wallet! 😉 When I first started my journey I held on to everything I bought like a mad woman, hissing if you got too close to my precious gems (think lord or the rings my precious moment) 😂 Nowadays, I let go with pleasure of things that don’t work for me anymore or a failed blind buy. Yeah, you lose some money but I’d rather get some money back to be able to buy something I’d actually use and love. I’ve developed a habit of going through stuff in my collection quite often, every season change I bring out all the ones from my collection for that season and I’ll wear them and sometimes I’ll find one or two that don’t speak to me anymore. As I’ve curated my collection more, this happens less and less because I’m bringing in more stuff that I consistently love which is the goal but tastes change, or sometimes you find something similar to something but is better and in my case, I’ll generally get rid of the latter unless I can justify owning both because I know realistically I’ll only wear a few different variations of say something like br540. Too many options of that one scent profile or any one scent profile really, lessens my excitement. If I’m gravitating to the one or two and not the others in that same fragrance family, then those gotta go!
I’m with you on sweetie aoud, I only bought a sample and I’m so glad because honestly, I think that fragrance is just horrible lol and I don’t say that much but just couldn’t get on board with it.
Some of my misses:
Miller Harris scherzo - blind bought awhile back due to hype and sold it after a week. I didn’t find it special and never thought I’d reach to wear it. It’s just okay. Too expensive to just be okay.
Lorga Ambra Platine - again, bought due to hype. Expensive blind buy but I do love amber fragrances so I thought it would be a win but when I got it it smelled more like almonds to me than amber. It was a beautiful composed fragrance, stunning presentation which also made it hard to let go of because you could really tell it was high quality but it just wasn’t what I was expecting it to be. Finally sold it a few weeks ago.
Some other would be Xerjoff Muse and Italica, Dusita Anamncara, Iris Malikhan, Dior Addict, Ormande Jayne Damask Rose, Perdizone, Crazy In Love, and many many more 😂 I’ve decluttered A LOT over the past 3 years. Mercari has been great for that. By the way, what is your handle on there? Mine is vannamae.

I’m so glad to hear Sweetie Oud wasn’t for you! I wanted to try it because everyone said it smells like croissant. I couldn’t fathom how, given the notes. We have similar enough taste that I tend to trust your judgement. And so, it’s no longer on my to-try or blind-buy list. You just saved me a ton of money 🥳
I recently decluttered Hundred Silent Ways. It’s one of the few fragrances that made me a little sick/headachy. I may be the only one who doesn’t enjoy it. 🤷🏻♀️

Yes Hundred Silent Ways goes away when it starts to even feel like warm weather. I love it when it’s super cold here…but too sweet and dense for warm weather. ❤️
Totally agree with you on Secret Genius, it really didn’t smell like how others have described it to be. And YES Gilded Fox is where it’s at! When I run out of my Gourmand Coquin (rip) I’ll definitely be picking up a bottle ☺️
You are SO lucky to have a bottle of that…..I refuse to pay the prices second hand sites are asking (and I’ve been on the lookout for over a year). I’ll wait for something similar. I sent you a chocolatey gourmand for fun …..I’m sure you will hate it! ❤️❤️❤️😂😂 it smells like a straight up…..well…..I don’t want to spoil the fun. I’ll let you decide. I just knew that Sweetie Oud wasn’t going to smell like croissant..glad that you confirmed it and you only bought a small bottle. I have never tried a Roja fragrance..I imagine them to be too sophisticated for my unsophisticated nose. Secret genius was a big no for me as well.
They are very complex. Lots of depth…..I think lots of folks would love and appreciate it….as long as they weren’t looking for a buttered croissant. ❤️and liked smoky oudy fragrances.

With sweeties aoud I smell more buttery and doughy scent when smelling the atomizer but when I spray it it’s totally different for some reason but I do like it

PPS= The only 'warm salty buttered croissant' smell I can think of is 'Messy Sexy Just Rolled Out of Bed' by A Lab on Fire. How does it work on your skin, I wonder? It doesn't smell like sugary cakes but has a distinct 'salty pastry' vibe on me. Also 'Gold Myrrh Absolute' by Carolina Herrera Confidential opens with a salty cookie note, which is a 'hook' which dissolves rather quickly but wow, what a sensational fragrance that one is too.

Love your honest opinions about fragrances you just aren’t feeling anymore. This was a good video!! I know what you mean about Hypnotic Poison I used to wear it a lot and gave my bottle away because it just wasn’t me anymore. I say sample wherever you can it’s awful to blind buy and be stuck with a bottle. It happened to me just recently. In Canada we don’t have Mercari otherwise I would sell it. I recently ordered a 10ml decant from Etsy of a pricey, hard to find fragrance (5 by Rosendo Mateu) and am SO glad I did because I love it but feel 10mls is enough for me! Have you tried this one? BTW your hair looks so good even when you don’t think it does xoxo 😘
Lol! Aw thanks Mira! Not having a place to sell my stuff easily would definitely force me to buy less because it’s almost guilt free shipping. I’m always thinking “if I don’t like it, I can always sell it”…….very enabling!!! I don’t do Facebook but I’ve heard Facebook perfume groups are great places to buy and sell perfumes……there’s also eBay but I’ve found in the past ….some ppl on eBay aren’t super honest. I have had great luck with ppl on Mercari. Hopefully it will come there to Canada! 👏🏻

Yes!! See how that happens? The bottle is pretty…that’s why I hung on and it’s a nice scent…but….reality called me and told me to be responsible! 😂😂
Random declutter of questions and opinions, drawer one: Am I the only person who finds Roja Dove's fragrances lacking in tenacity? For the price he asks, they just wear off far too soon (I'm thinking of the ORIGINAL 'Enigma Parfum Pour Femme' (which is heavenly and a world apart from the Enigma essence). Is it just me? The term 'skin scent' is such an outrageous cop out I feel like picking up my handbag and storming out of the room. Unless a perfumer clearly intends to release high end niche fragrances that are designed for certain markets (ie; Brazil, Japan etc, cultures where they like a lighter, more inoffensive fragrance or one that is very gauzy and misty and can be reapplied during the day because it's so light) then having a 300 GBP fragrance having no sillage or staying power is a failure that offends. Why do these houses think people are so stupid they can be fooled by the term 'skin scent'? I can recognise an incredibly well blended fragrance that is composed of the highest quality raw ingredients by a deft professional which has been judged to be most successful if it wears as a close to the body as a 'personal cocoon'-- but I can also tell when something just falls short and dissolves all round for one reason or another. I'm tired of the 'skin scent' term being used to fool consumers. I'm not forking out that sort of money for something nobody can smell, not even me, and which wears off after an hour or two. Overspraying is not the answer, for shame. Is this just me? If not, then I'd like to know what other people think of so many niche fragrances not performing well.
PS= Devastated when Tom Ford discontinued 'Plum Japonais'. There is no dupe for this, NOTHING, not even close. I'm almost angry with the company for doing this. Here's one: can you even imagine what a burning Plum Japonais candle would smell like?! Heavenly... (my expression just turned into that of a toddler with a wobbly lower lip just before they burst into tears :D) Can't they at least bring in a Plum Japonais reed diffuser or a candle at least? I'm trying to find out whether PJ smells anything at all like Serge Lutens 'Fille en Aiguilles'-- do you happen to know how these two compare? Kafkaesque blog had an entry that said that Fille En Aiguilles was everything Tom Ford WISHED he did with Plum Japonais and is a more realised, 'better' version. Could this even be true and if so, why is there only one person who writes glowingly eulogistic odes to Fille En Aiguilles with this constant PJ reference threaded through? Hmm.
I had both and think they are nothing alike personally. I much prefer PJ as I found the spices in Fille too “stewy “ ….perfect for a stew or goulash, and not incensy or sweet enough. Just my personal take. I got a heavy Worsheshire vibe when I wore Fille and even one person who smelled me said “you smell like Chinese food” with a crinkled face when I walked by. PJ has none of that. I loved it…but my personal quirkiness makes it impossible to enjoy and use discontinued perfumes unless I have a back up. I’m a tad odd. 😂

I’m not familiar with these fragrance except for Hypnotic Poison🧐🤔. Decluttering is honestly good for the soul as I don’t believe in keeping things that are not being used👌👌. I have stopped blind buying, now I buy samples or do sample swaps and this really helps a lot🤩😍👌. This was so awesome to watch👌👌. Stay gorgeous🥰🥰

Wow, when you mentioned Holy Stick I jumped up out of bed (its 11:45. Here) and grabbed my Cremo Palo Santo. Yum. Soft warm and woody. So comforting.

I am newly back into my fragrance addiction, and I too want to collect all the discontinued fragrances. I have been going ham buying way too many! but I just sold Midnight Poison by Dior because I know people really love all the Poison flankers and collecting all those apple bottles, and it would be more valued in someone else's collection than in mine. It was hard to let go for sure, but I hope others will also recirculate perfumes that don't work for them so that others can find their unicorn fragrances too!
I also just sold Blousy by Miller Harris. It was a new acquisition, and while I did like the strawberry note, I found it similar to Burberry Her Elixir, but it had a flat quality to my nose. The Elixir is one of my all time favorites in that genre, and it would be hard to top it. Plus, I REALLY love the design of the bottle and the color, so why do I need to collect other, mediocre versions? I admit I need to sell THOO Keep Glazed. I was suckered into getting it for the bottle and because I like the mango and whipped cream notes, but it doesn't mesh with my chemistry, which is odd, because from the lucky scent sample it smelled fantastic. I like the Scherzo (pr. skĕr′tsō - it's an Italian musical term) box with quote “You're the only girl I've seen for a long time that actually did look like something blooming.” from "Tender is the Night" more than I like the fragrance. Miller Harris does have great marketing, and I love that brand in general though. I am trying to maintain a more refined collection, and that means ruthless declutters need to happen seasonally. btw, I just subscribed. I've just jumped to watch this video and I couldn't agree more with Sweetie Aoud!!!!! I wonder how the "Secuoya" smells, I've been to Muir Woods and the Sequoya National Parks in San Francisco but I can't truly remember how they smelled . 😉 La Petit Robe Noir Intense....I don't like it either I don't like any of the flankers but the Intense is a definite no-go for me.

I just recently purchased a bottle of Scherzo! Wore it on a date with the boyfriend and he said "God you smell so good!". So I'm probably going to keep it. 😁 I will say though that it does remind me of a lot of other rose- oud combos. It just smells like it has some extra amped up iso e super in it. Chris- are there other fragrances from Miller-Harris that you like?
I’m not sure if I got a bad bottle or what. But that opening was just horrible to my nose and I know SO many ppl go crazy over it. Yes I love the Miller Harris incense perfumes.
Hey Chris, I did the same thing with Plum Japonais. I finally found this fragrance after searching for 2 years, I bought 3 bottles and I haven't sprayed it yet since I tested. I need to sell at least 2 of these bottles so someone else can enjoy the scent.

I had the exact same experience with Scherzo. Something very off putting in it. It was dry and strong and almost made me think of corn chips or something? Very odd.

I have a decant of Woody Mood and in the opening I got leather with incense and some woods. It was very disappointing because from the description I heard, I didn't expect the leather note to be that strong. Then at the drydown Wow, the amber accord with the cocoa came out a lot and it smelled delicious! It took a long time for that delicious drydown to appear so I'm not sure it's FBW. I'm glad you were able to sell them! 😘🤗

I had a migraine the last time I wore Coromandel and I'm almost too scared to wear it again...this never used to happen to me. Oh dear not Coromandel!!! Well I don’t wear my heavy duty ambers , patchouli- milky perfumes when it’s hot. Freshies never seem to give me a headache. And your going into summer right? I stick with freshies, lighter perfumes, fruits, those don’t tend to give me headaches.

Was not going to blind buy this because of the retail price and despite all the rave reviews, others had said there are just too many notes and you can't possibly detect them all. So wanted to love it but it is a solid pass for me. :)

As you know, I don’t mind purchasing and enjoying discontinued perfumes. 😉 And yes, selling at an inflated price is also not my thing and I’m glad it’s not yours either!
I used to blind buy more often, but in recent years, there are some new aroma-chemicals that really disturb my nose. Certain musks and synthetic woods are so sharp, they singe my nose and throat. When I try those perfumes, I’m just 🤯 when people review them as something amazing. “How can they not smell that overpowering note that I can smell from across the room?!?!” So I’m more skeptical nowadays and can’t wait for this pandemic to end so I can smell/test things in person again. 😊 Thankfully I’ve found some fragrance reviewers that like/dislike similar things that I do, so sometimes I take a chance (only reasonably priced items though).

Oh gosh I stopped reading the comments on Fragrantica long ago - obviously there are so many would-be writers who have read the professional blogs and essays on the site and are trying to mimic them for all they’ve got; this makes for an awful read, it takes so much space and is NOT by any means informative, I mean if you HAVE to read those comments, please scroll down for at least five minutes first, then you’ll be travelling back in time and perhaps (not guaranteed) read inputs from people who actually know something about perfume…
Oh Fragrantica is so often wrong, even with designer fragrances but definitely more often with niche. The notes are often partially missing or just plain wrong...

Purchased a sample set and I was disappointed in all of them - and I really wanted to like the brand (esp the old packaging). For me, a miss is Lattafa Oud for Glory (aka Oud for Greatness dupe). It's just too "masculine" though I'll keep trying like we do! 😉 PS: Belated congrats on the jalapeño eating contest! 😅😅😅

Where we live (city, suburbs, Midwest, Northeast, etc.) really influences the way we smell fragrances. I have grown up and lived in Oklahoma and Missouri, and I relate to so many of your reviews.
I got a Miller Harris discovery set, mostly because of all the raving Scherzo reviews. It smelled awful to me and to my husband. I enjoy a wide range of fragrances, but this one was bitter and animalic in the worst way. Contrary to many positive opinions, I found Pas C'est Soir from BDK to smell like a nursing home diaper bin. Just goes to show how powerful our scent association can be.

@@ThePerfumeNest I really wanted to like it!! But, no.We lived in Columbia for 5 years (in the 90s) while I was in grad school and my hubby was in residency at MU.We're both originally from Oklahoma. Our oldest son is in grad school at KU.
I heard good things about Sherzo also, I found Anthropologie carries it so I finally got a sniff. I didn't hate it, but was underwhelmed. Reminded me a bit of a quieter Out Bouquet. I almost blind bought the travel size, but glad I didn't. I wanted to love Sweetie Aoud, but not worth the high price. Didn't get bakery from it, I think Jeaux de Peau by Serge Lutens hits the bakery note. I think it is discontinued. I'm keeping my Hypnotic Poison, don't wear it often, but do like it. I prefer my Sticky Cake by Commes de Gascon a bit more than Hypnotic Poison. Haven't liked anything from Pinrose.

In the last decade or so I’ve been doing more HIIT and strength training. I got really out of shape this past year not being able to go to exercise classes as regularly…..looking forward to that being a thing of the past. 😉❤️

Thé Amber Saffron from Clean Reserve on its own smelled like pickle juice on my skin. I have to pair it. I must have tried wearing that fragrance for months. Thinking it was me. But nope. Just not working out with my skin chemistry🤢

When you mentioned secret genius I had to look up the notes I’d made on the Pinrose discovery set. I did like secret genius and made a note to test it again sometime. But as you can guess, I didn’t care for gilded fox at all! The clove note was so over-the-top intense that it almost turned fishy if that makes any sense. And to me, it was an artificial clove smell like in a Christmas candle. If people can handle that intensity, I could see how they could really love it though!
I know my comments are always so long.. but I just HAVE to say, when you mentioned the surgical gauze perfume, it reminded me of a perfume I tested out earlier this week that is supposed to be a dupe for BR 540, and when I tell you the smell of the dentist office was so realistic… 😳 My mom was a dental assistant here on the island for 15 years, so as a kid I spent a lot more time than most kids in a dentist office, and it brought me right back to those days! I’m not sure if it reminds me of the surgical gloves, or gauze, or what, but WOW. (It was Amber Oud Rouge and I had BR540 on the other hand and I didn’t get that dental smell from that one at all!)
Um yes we’re not allowed to send fragrances into Canada either….and yet a birdie told me you got a big box of decants and a FB of perfume and I have decants from a lovely Canadian fragrance reviewer on my desk……😉
