I really appreciate the effort you put in for showing us this technique. I am so glad when i look at my new re-caned Thonet chair. Some things are not difficult at all, especially with a good teacher and some patience you can do a lot... Thank you Anja!
Thanks for this. I have to do this for 6 chairs and feeling anxious about it. I bought them secondhand and didn’t realize how much work was involved with changing cane.
I am so glad you find this helpful! Yes, they do take a bit of work but you'll get better and more efficient with every chair you do. Thank you so much for you nice comment 💛 ~ Anja
I just tried it on my first chair and I succeeded! Yes, getting old spline out is a bit of work but it all worked out in the end. I have several old chairs to fix so I ordered a special chisel from the place that sells the cane seats so that may make the process faster.
Thank you- I didn't think I could repair my two chairs with glued-in cane. I was ready to just staple straps on the seat and put a pillow on top! You saved my chairs!
Everyone tells me it is to hard, IMPOSSIBLE to repair caneback. Thank you for showing me, I can try! I have a huge set of vintage chairs all cane backs. My children have destroyed them, from use. Thank you for the simple lesson!
It's not hard at all!! It will take a bit, especially if you're doing it for the first time but go back to the video as a guide and you should be fine! Have fun 💛 ~ Anja
Great video and very helpful to see the technique for repairing rattan/weave seats. I was waiting for the mentioned link to show where the replacement mat was ordered, and did not see it shown. Please add. Again, GREAT video. :)
I am so glad you found this helpful. The affiliate link for the replacement seat is in the description box but I'll post it here, too: amzn.to/3VZErkt 😊 ~ Anja
I think the problem was two-fold. We didn't get the cane down into the groove on the first try and we wet the spline twice. Got it on the second try. Thanks for responding. Loved the video. It was very helpful.
Honestly, I cannot exactly remember but maybe 3-4 hours. It also depends on your chair and how much glue they used to put the seat in there. Hope this helps 💛 ~ Anja
Hi there! I use this one and like it! Hope this helps! ~Anja www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BEXVTMK/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00BEXVTMK&linkCode=as2&tag=ourgabledhome-20&linkId=947f255ea8487700a1dd8cec0cb9a0ac
Hi there! Praying for some help! So I just bought some chairs and a couple need repairing ! I love this video but when looking an my chairs the groove that I would be able to wedge the cane in is on the under side of my round chair. 🤦🏻♀️ any advice? On top it’s just the holes Thanks!!
I am not quite sure what that looks like. While this was intended for people with questions about sourdough, I do offer video coaching supersimplesourdough.teachable.com/p/sourdough-coaching. That way I can see your chair and help you better. Hope this helps 😊 ~ Anja
Karen stop talking about the professional repair. You must have accepted the work upon completion. It was a complete distraction and turn off watching your video.

I couldn't get the spline to seat itself in the groove. It ended up getting smashed. What did I do wrong?
Did you use enough glue and the right size spline?

👍👍👍 About how long did it take to redo one chair your first time? Trying to estimate for my own projects, thanks!

Wow -I ’m impressed!
I don’t even have a chair like this but really enjoyed the tutorial! It’s like you just sucked me in! Lol
Aww … thank you, that is so sweet of you to say 💛~ Anja
I didn't see any links of where to purchase the repair kit. Can you point me in the right direction? Great instructional... am keen to give it a try.

Work is great. Thanks.
Yay! I am so glad you enjoyed this video 💛 ~ Anja
Did you ever try to use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the wood glue?
No, I haven't but next time I need to repair a chair, I will keep that in mind! Thank you so much for sharing 💛~ Anja
Amazing!
Let me know if you have comments or questions about this!
I didn't see a link for where you purchased your replacement materials from.
Which size spline did you use?
It was a #7 spline 😊 ~ Anja
Tengo 2 mecedoras para reparar este video es muy útil 😅

Where do I get the cane piece

There are better ways to remove a spline.
That's not a good idea to use gorilla glue. If you get a hole in the seat you will NEVER get that glue out. Bad idea.
