    Yeah i also had a site with a drop beginning of May. Also saw some pages get de indexed and completely lost keywords that were very successful for a long period of time. And by lost I mean gone, not just dropped in rank.

      Sorry to hear that! It’s annoying but part of the game. Just glad the whole site wasn’t crushed in March. Did you resubmit the pages/were you able to get them indexed again?

    Just bought a month's worth of credits on Koala. Keep up the updates! It inspires me to build post-HCU!

      That is awesome to hear! That’s my main goal in posting these videos (to show there is still money to be made, even in a rapidly changing industry).
      All my newish sites are actually doing great rn, so I think this is shaping up to be a nice 6 month stretch before any updates 🤞

      @@CaseyBotticello That's awesome! Good thing my youtube algo brought me to your channel! Given the death of r/juststart posts, it is refreshing to see it is still working.
      Would love to pick your brain about how you go about manually editing your outputs on Koala. Is there gonna be a video about it soon? :)

      @@ranjseblos Definitely planned! Just need to find the time to record/edit as it will be a long video to show full process.

      @@lenishkhatiwada Mediavine is great for knitting and crochet! I know several people with highly successful sites. It can be lucrative on the display ad side of things and you can also make a lot on the custom pattern side of the business!

    How are you doing keyword research for a site like this?

    • @CaseyBotticello
      @CaseyBotticello  3 месяца назад +1

      I used to use Ahrefs but just cancelled my subscription (it’s a great tool but expensive, and I dont really need it).
      I focus heavily on topical mapping and kw research is a very small consideration:
      bloggingguide.com/how-to-create-a-topical-map-for-your-blog/
      This is partially why I’ve managed to survive these updates (less focused on producing content for search directly, more focused on covering topic in a way an insider in the niche would).

    With multiple sites, do you create separate Google Search Console accounts for each? This was a theory by some that if you had multiple sites on a single GSC account, that may have been a red flag for Google to penalize the site. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @CaseyBotticello
      @CaseyBotticello  3 месяца назад +1

      I understand the paranoia and thought process behind creating multiple GSC accounts but having talked to other blogger friends/having access to some old clients’ accounts, I am pretty sure this was not the case. Some people had multiple sites on GSC get hit but almost nobody I talked to saw ALL their sites hit on same account…unless you are doing something egregiously spammy/black hat, I don’t believe this is what is causing sites to be impacted.
      I personally have almost all my sites on one GSC account and have had a few sites hit,several sites with little to no impact, and even several sites that were big winners during the last few updates.
      Again though, I don’t do anything black hat with my sites so I’m not as worried. If you were trying something questionable a new gsc account may be a good idea, but even then, Google can track you in so many ways that unless you have excellent tradecraft they’d quickly be able to find related sites. Especially if the sites are earning money through a display ad network (all of which rely on Google for a huge amount of ads).
