Sorry to all you CT guys but Kai Lenny is without doubt the best surfer in the world right now! We can only hope that he lives to a ripe old age and keeps putting on the show for us.
I have surfed (or played at surfing) since 1963 when my friend and I would carry his "Big Kahuna Board" (about 12 feet long and made of wood) as it was too heavy for either one of us to take alone, on the walk to the beach. Fast forward some 50+ years, and I still love to surf. Even though I am a long way from very-good, there is nothing I like to do more in the ocean than catching and riding waves. Of course, I am talking waves about 3 to 5 feet tall and the occasional exceptional waves about 8 to 12 feet high. My gonads are in a permanent state of "cold water small" when attempting to ride any waves larger than ten feet. I am thrilled to watch these young professionals continue to push the limits of this exciting sport. Although I lack, if not the ability, the courage to ride fifty-foot waves, I vicariously enjoy surfing these monster waves through pictures and videos like this one. It's a win-win for me, so keep those videos coming.
As I’m sure you know, how “good” you are is truly unimportant. It would stoke the hell out of me if I saw an old timer like you, no offense meant btw, out in the line up at my local break. Probably try and talk your ear off to get some stories. Hope I’m still able to paddle out and catch some when I get to be your age. You’re an inspiration braddah🤙!

I was fortunate enough to be in Maui for this swell. It was incredible to witness & be there in person! The energy of people & the island was amazing. Almost like everyone was buzzing! Peʻahi got itʻs nickname “Jaws” in 1975 by three Maui surfers, John Potterick, John Lemus and John Robertson. According to their story, when they surfed Jaws for the first time, it changed abruptly from small waves to huge and dangerous waves in a matter of minutes.

It only became Peahi after Laird Hamilton and Buzzy Kerbox bought land on Peahi Rd. and to draw attention and value to that area, only then it became Peahi... there is nothing disrespectul about it... Only you Tevin! the outsider, don't know the story.
I live in a city on the Mediterranean Sea. When the sea is rough I don't go into the water, others enjoy the waves. But in all my life I have never seen a wave as big as these. I think if someone who frequents those beaches saw our waves they would kill themselves laughing.
