I fell headfirst in love with Charlene the first time I saw her on the Andy Griffith Show. It's still there! I love this type of music, folks, and well-done.
I loved The Dillards when I came of age in the '60s. So sad they've all walked on except for Rodney. But his voice is as clear as it ever was - and this song I hear in my mind's ear with increasing frequency, these days. ♥🎵♥
Oh My Goodness.... it's Charleen!!!!!!!!! This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written...I was hoping that Charleen would sing it solo...I remember her singing it on the Andy Griffith Show and I literally had tears in my eyes....such a pretty song!!!!
@dcollier7239 It brought tears to her Pa's eyes even though he(DenverPyle)said he'd fight the tears, my parent's loved hearing MaggiePatterson singing it on the AndyGriffithShow.
We are the biggest Andy Griffith fans, but our favorite episodes were when the Darlings were on! We love the Dillards, and especially the mandolin player from our hometowm,Bakersville N. C.
Only Thing Missing Is Brisco And His Jug Over In The Corner Blowing And Wipeing His Eyes😩😩😭🤦Now That I'm Older This Song Means More To Me Than Ever And It's True💙
There is a time for love and laughter The days will pass like summer storms The winter wind will follow after But there is love and love is warm There is a time for us to wander When time is young and so are we The woods are greener over yonder The path is new the world is free There is a time when leaves are fallin' The woods are gray the paths are old The snow will come when geese are callin' You need a fire against the cold So do your roaming in the springtime And you'll find your love in the summer sun The frost will come and bring the harvest And you can sleep when day is done
I taught my grandson to play the guitar and was determined that he would learn this song...and he did. A dream come true for me. I've loved this song since I first heard it on Andy. Beautiful song. RIP dear Mitch.
Beautiful song. Every time I hear it, it stays in my head all day. I always enjoyed Any Griffith shows. I've seen all the episodes. My favorite was when the Darlin's was on the show. I enjoyed all their songs.
How fast the years pass. It seems like just yesterday I was a boy watching the Darling family sing this song. I grew up in the country and it was amazing how much Mayberry was like the small town where l lived. Except we weren't lucky enough to have a great band like the Darlings.
Last added verse: Life is like a rolling river with no regrets as it moves on. Around the bend, a shining morning To greet old friends we thought were gone.
I always love all the songs on the show, but especially this one. Andy also plays it while when sitting on the porch with Aunt Bea in season 5 episode 24.
I'm only 41 but I remember watching the Andy Griffith show with my grandparents. I always loved the episodes with the Darlings. I use to have my grandfather play this and Dooley all the time. Bluegrass is in my blood and that is something I am proud of.
This has to be the best song ever written! It’s absolutely beautiful! I love to hear y’all sing it! From the first time I heard “Charlene” sing it on the Andy Griffith Show, until today, it is beautiful! Thank you for writing it!!
Loved all the shows no matter reruns over and over. Such a sad but true song. Can't escape those words, true for all of us !!Thanks So much and my condolences to you all.
It's really hard singing when someone close has passed on. Particularly when you were close to them. I'm glad that it was sung, particularly the new verse.
As a kid I grew up watching Andy Griffith Show. Always liked Charlene's brothers. Never knew however who they were until today. WOW just plain awesome!
I really love this song. Been a fan since the Andy Griffith days and always enjoyed when they were on there. I love the new verse also. really fits in well.
Other than Ron Howard who played Opie, she's probably one of the very few left that was on that show. Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, the man who played Howard the Barber, the lady who played Aunt Bee, the one who played Otis the town drunk are now all gone but never forgotten. I miss those times back in the 60's.
Excellent: simpler, sweeter, "cleaner," version and similar to the pure version from the show. My heart aches for your loss, but I am happy to hear Mitch loved Jesus. Hope to hear him praising the Lord in Heaven.
Cheryl...Loved your comment. It reminds me of how things were when I was growing up in North Carolina many years ago. While I didn't know Mitch or the other guys personally, as it turns out I've known them for a very long time in reality based upon your comment. It was a wonderful time back then. Thanks again for the memories.
is my time done-or am I just beginning a new chapter. this song - I love their new verse. too all of those who came before me and all that will come after.
+Art Lee That's Rodney Dillard. He also wrote the song & is the one original member of the "Darlings" (besides, of course, Charlene). Rodney is who also sang "Dooley" with the Darlings on Andy Griffith. In real life, the Darlings were the Dillards--one of the pioneering "country rock" bands who have influenced everyone from the Eagles to Alison Krauss to Brad Paisley and everybody in between.
Maggie was a little doll when she played Charlene, and my goodness didn't she age so well. She's still cuter'n a speckled pup under a little red wagon. So long Mitch. Thanks for all the good times and good music.
Maggie Peterson Mancuso passed away last night. Her path is new... the world is free. Thank you for the many, many smiles. I will always watch TAGS.
Lovely words. How we love to watch her, and still do in Aug. 2024. We recorded the episodes. RIP beautiful Maggie, always remembered.
That song I loved on Andy Griffith & it's still beautiful.❤
I fell headfirst in love with Charlene the first time I saw her on the Andy Griffith Show. It's still there! I love this type of music, folks, and well-done.
The emotion in his voice when he sings the friends we thought were gone! It touches My heart!
Rip angel I love you and all of you thanks for all your beautiful music God Bless You All🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤
The best song ever sung on Andy Griffith.
I loved The Dillards when I came of age in the '60s. So sad they've all walked on except for Rodney. But his voice is as clear as it ever was - and this song I hear in my mind's ear with increasing frequency, these days. ♥🎵♥
I can still remember hearing this song as a child. Loved it then, love it more now. Thanks
I have the entire cd set of the Andy G show. I love the Darling's She sure wanted to marry Andy cause he was "purty and strong as a tree"
@dcollier7239 It brought tears to her Pa's eyes even though he(DenverPyle)said he'd fight the tears, my parent's loved hearing MaggiePatterson singing it on the AndyGriffithShow.
I was also hoping for a solo, like she did on the show. But the added verse made up it
We are the biggest Andy Griffith fans, but our favorite episodes were when the Darlings were on!
Amen to that!!
There is a time for love and laughter
The days will pass like summer storms
The winter wind will follow after
But there is love and love is warm
There is a time for us to wander
When time is young and so are we
The woods are greener over yonder
The path is new the world is free

The woods are gray the paths are old
The snow will come when geese are callin'
You need a fire against the cold
So do your roaming in the springtime
And you'll find your love in the summer sun
The frost will come and bring the harvest
And you can sleep when day is done
thank you!
This song is just like the Andy Griffith show, timeless and a classic.
God Bless all of you. Through the Andy Griffith Show you have touched millions of people.
Maggie STILL looks like " Maggie " even at her age here. Such a beautiful soul inside and out.
That fiddle solo! I felt it raking across my heart
Who is that on the fiddle??
Little late here but this music is timeless. As fresh to me as the first time I heard it.❤️
Maggie, nobody could ever forget your voice! I wished you had sung this one here.
GOD. BLESS .
The AGS episodes with the Darlings are always an extra treat. Kind of like when Flatt & Scruggs drop in on the Clampetts.
A tremendous song, a tremendous legacy for THE DILLARDS and Andy GRiffith!
Such a beautiful, sweet, sad song. It never fails to make me cry. God rest Mr. Jayne's soul.
I taught my grandson to play the guitar and was determined that he would learn this song...and he did. A dream come true for me. I've loved this song since I first heard it on Andy. Beautiful song. RIP dear Mitch.
There is magic from the Ozarks. I should know, it's where I hail from. The Dillards have a special place in my heart, always.
Maggie Peterson doing this is phenomenal. If you haven't seen her Andy Griffith Show version, Google it.
Beautiful song. Every time I hear it, it stays in my head all day. I always enjoyed Any Griffith shows. I've seen all the episodes. My favorite was when the Darlin's was on the show. I enjoyed all their songs.
+Paul Michaels Darlings and earnest T bass episodes we are watching all of them on Amazon right now.
+Carola Wingert Just finished watching the Christmas one when Ben wanted to join the Christmas festivities in the jail house & Barney was Santa Claus.
Thank you Maggie and Rodney for all you have done shareing your life with all of the mayberry fans around the world.
How fast the years pass. It seems like just yesterday I was a boy watching the Darling family sing this song. I grew up in the country and it was amazing how much Mayberry was like the small town where l lived. Except we weren't lucky enough to have a great band like the Darlings.
Last added verse:
Life is like a rolling river
with no regrets as it moves on.
Around the bend, a shining morning
To greet old friends we thought were gone.
Thanks for adding. I really like this new verse. Especially at my age.
Easily one of the most beautiful songs ever written in any genre.
You Bet!

This makes cry for my late Wife. We use to walk through woods.

So much and my condolences to you all.
R.I.W.G TO THE BROTHER MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS THIS FAMILY AND FOREVER IN HIS LOVING GRACE🙏❤😓😢😭😭😭😭🙏🙏
Nothing but chills at that last verse... epic
Listening closely to the lyrics for the first time, this is now my favorite song. It just barely edges out Dooley. That last verse is heavenly.
I wish that Maggie sang this song by herself. I personally think it was better with just her singing it!
ikr
Much better with her doing it
It's really hard singing when someone close has passed on. Particularly when you were close to them. I'm glad that it was sung, particularly the new verse.
Thank you for playing that new verse. That is an amazing song

This is the best song of all times.
This song always brings tears to my eyes.
Other than Ron Howard who played Opie, she's probably one of the very few left that was on that show. Love this song. It makes me cry every time and that additional verse, bring the tissue box.
That's an amazing song, 💞
I LOVED the last verse! Very nice.
Excellent: simpler, sweeter, "cleaner," version and similar to the pure version from the show. My heart aches for your loss, but I am happy to hear Mitch loved Jesus. Hope to hear him praising the Lord in Heaven.

Bawling my eyes out, and I am not a weak man.
I hate to break the news, but I just found out Maggie has past. RIP, what a classy actress.
I love the new verse and this mans voice

Maggie was a little doll when she played Charlene, and my goodness didn't she age so well. She's still cuter'n a speckled pup under a little red wagon.

Rip marget great song and singer
Love the new verse....
That really DID make me cry (like Charlene said on the Andy Griffith Show that it made her.) Beautiful...
Charlene said it made her pa cry, not that it made her cry. His response was "well, I'll fight it."
Wish I had been there!
My favorite song they do.
love it
makes me cry too
