The first time that I saw you You were dancin' on the beach Poetry in motion But you seemed so out of reach And the waves Were breakin' 'round you In the California sunset I made a wish to know you And touch your golden hair You turned around and looked at me And paradise was there Baby I remember the way you took my hand Yesterday Time stood still As we walked into the night together The memory is locked in our hearts forever It seems just like yesterday Time stood still We found a little seaside bar High above the rocks You were drinking white wine And I was doing shots I wondered if you'd stay the night You just took my hand and led the way Time stood still As we made love through the night together The memory is locked in our hearts forever Time stood still Time stood still The memory is locked in our hearts forever Oh yeah I thought that I'd seen love before But what you showed me Well that's something more Love found two strangers walking on the shore We threw our watches in the sea I looked at you you looked at me And time stood still We made a fire on the beach that night And watched the seagulls circle in the morning light Maybe there are some things We're not meant to understand Anyway Time stood still But love goes on forever The memory is burned in our hearts forever Oh yes Time stood still The moment's gone forever But I will love you till Time stands still in our hearts forever Oh yeah Time stood still Time stood still Time stands still in our hearts forever Seems just like yesterday Time stood still Time stands still Time stood still Oh yeah Time stood still Forever
good rendition of this song from bad english second album how ever this groove always reminds me of the mask of smiles album anyway john always brilliant as ever
Interesting, but I can't stand to hear the sloppy guitar of these players after I've heard the beautiful original playing of Neal Schon. Woops, it's Kyle from Matchbox Twenty! I guess it's just different--love ya, Kyle, but you can't touch Neal here!
They butchered this, my favorite song on "Backlash". From guitar,... tone of guitar, and John forgetting lyrics and rushing lyrics (..."I looked at you, you looked at me") in parts. This is why performers rehearse. And rehearse. Because that is what is needed to give such an elegant rock song the integrity it deserves!
Boy, you are way too picky. And I contend. The harmonies were fantastic and believe me live performances are NEVER the same as what has been recorded for sale. I love this version.
@17tarot3 oh well it it the furthest from remotely sounding studio!! So that's not an argument. I don't mind if it sounds less studio and more raw. But beside ALL the elements that made it VERY "newly formed garage band sounding" They couldn't get a classical 12 string acoustic on a stand??? To make it somewhat more authentic? It sounds like you didn't like the studio version. (Or....just prefer sloppy) Again...... it is an elegant rock song that tells a story, and then we have this butchered version of it. John Waite could do better.
@@rickr2029 I totally understand what you're saying, but John doesn't sing the same lyics in most of his songs and it doesn't have so much to do with forgettingthe lyrics, but imagine singing the same lyrics every single time you're onstage. He has given THOUGANDS of concernts all over the world it would be like rereading the same book at fifty that you wrote when you were a teenager. And at this point (72) it is even more incredible that he is still singing so very well and has such perfect range. Given, this appearance might not be up to the originals version, but I actually think that gives it an original twist.... I love it. I hope you'll listen to it again with afresh perspective. He really means a lot to me. Have a fantastic day. :)
@17tarot3 as he does to me also! I gravitated to that voice in 1977 with the Broken Heart album. Would watch them on the Midnight Special. Top 3rd or 4th favorite male vocalist along with Lou Gramm, Jimmi Jamison, Brad Delp. I like his gig in that he does a stripped down minimal-musician type-of concerts these days. It's simple and somewhat unique. From the Backlash album "Time Stood Still" was my favorite song and to be quite honest "IF" I didn't know it so well and was a newbie, I almost would have thought it was a newer song. To me it teeters on being unrecognizable. But hey, I would take John Waite doing it the way he does than to hang it up and to stop touring. And about his voice, range strength etc. I have notice he has surprising strength still. And that awesome soft voice he is known for. That all is still there. I just have noticed that he phrases songs differently at times to help in singing. "Isn't it Time" is a perfect example. He purposely changing the opening line so he can take a breath mid stream. Anyway I would go see him any time he came around. So.hopefully this explains better my position. Thanks for the respectful banter!
@@rickr2029i think that some of his lyrics nowadays are directed at fans who have become friends along the way who mayn't have the opportunity to be at his concerts but who he cares about... he rarely sings the same lyrics in certain songs twice. He changes them according to the city or town he is playing in (Midnight Rendezvous) I actually tease him about being unable to sing a song the same twice. He is marvelously inventive with changing things around, not only to keep the band on its toes at all times, but also to keep the songs fresh. I agree with your reflections on his voice. He can sing the song so very tentatively and yet there are others which come off complete dismissals of whomsoever is being sung about. He is blessed to have such a voice and we are blessed to be those born at such a time to have the honour of enjoying those riches. Hope your evening is beautiful. ~
This is one of my absolute favorite songs🎶 in the California sunshine🎶
The first time that I saw you
You were dancin' on the beach
Poetry in motion
But you seemed so out of reach
And the waves
Were breakin' 'round you
In the California sunset
I made a wish to know you
And touch your golden hair
You turned around and looked at me
And paradise was there
Baby I remember the way you took my hand
Yesterday
Time stood still
As we walked into the night together
The memory is locked in our hearts forever
It seems just like yesterday
Time stood still
We found a little seaside bar
High above the rocks
You were drinking white wine
And I was doing shots
I wondered if you'd stay the night
You just took my hand and led the way
Time stood still
As we made love through the night together
The memory is locked in our hearts forever
Time stood still
Time stood still
The memory is locked in our hearts forever
Oh yeah
I thought that I'd seen love before
But what you showed me
Well that's something more
Love found two strangers walking on the shore
We threw our watches in the sea
I looked at you you looked at me
And time stood still
We made a fire on the beach that night
And watched the seagulls circle in the morning light
Maybe there are some things
We're not meant to understand Anyway
Time stood still
But love goes on forever
The memory is burned in our hearts forever
Oh yes
Time stood still
The moment's gone forever
But I will love you till
Time stands still in our hearts forever
Oh yeah
Time stood still
Time stood still
Time stands still in our hearts forever
Seems just like yesterday
Time stood still
Time stands still
Time stood still
Oh yeah
Time stood still
Forever

@Rodolfo M I’m from the U.S, of mainly English descent, some German and French. Thanks so much!

Knowing his own vocals would have been good....
