For me, John Waite has always had one of the best voices in rock. Melodic and clear, he conveys emotions so well.

I would agree but I would not say hes the very best of conveying emotions but ok. I would argue, Ted Nugent Fred Bear conveys more emotion, Scorpions Rock you like a hurricane, Van Halen Right Now, U2 most songs, Sammy Hagar 55, and if you want to really flip genres, shanto conner or cranberries, or Stevie Nicks edge of 17 all evike morw emotion, but that being said the bad english singer is an above average hair band singer and is clear. I think the when I see you smile song is perhaps a better song. Think of Bon Jovi and White snake or white lion as well. Poison every rose has a thorn, my list may not be perfect. Think about freddy mercury.

These cats were together for about 3 years (1988-1991). After Steve Perry went "on hiatus," from Journey after the Raised on Radio album, Jonathan Cain got his old Babys bandmates Waite and Phillips to join him and Schon and added Castronovo on drums (now a permanent Journey member). They say they were done before their 2nd disc Backlash came out, Waite back to solo and Schon forming Hardline. What you see is typical late 80's early 90's music and style - big hair, big solos, and killer songs.

@@ericmullen4304 this and songs like possession we're inspired by Waite reading Anne Rice's vampire novels but no offense but the whole album was just stellar. Damn record company had them soured for the 2nd album and a great band was no more

This is a great stalker song. The lyrics are absolutely disturbing, but John Waite's singing is sexy and passionate. Neil Schon's guitar work is brilliant. There is a sultry spooky groove going on. The video is so cheesy it is great. Love the Keytar. This brings back some amazing memories for me. Back in the day I didn't quite absorb the song's meaning. The song is strangely assertive and vulnerable at the same time. Hypnotic and erotic, desperate possessiveness.

I don't think it's stalking, it's about love and commitment, love is sacred, something today's world can't handle

@@chrishassett1004 Well I suppose you could see it that way. But the lyrics when you read them are absolutely menacing. I love the song. But like WOW.
You leave the light on at your door
      You cross your heart
      Across the bedroom floor
      And through the window
      To your world
      You can feel me there
      And you know I'm waiting
      You taste the words
      Of my forbidden kiss
      Our eyes connect
And we both know what this is
      I will be your keeper
      You possess the key
      Forget me not
      Forget me not
      Cause you belong to me
      I will be your shadow
      When you walk away
      Forget me not
      Forget me not
      I will follow you
      Until your dying day
      Oh yeah
      Oh
      A thousand lifetimes long ago
      We made a promise
      We would not let go
And so I come for you tonight
      And we live again
      Before we lose each other
I climb a stairway to the open sky
      You are my universe
      I won't be denied no
      I will be your keeper
      You possess the key
      Forget me not
      Forget me not
      Cause you belong to me
      I will be your shadow
      When you walk away
      Forget me not
      Forget me not
      I will follow you
      Until your dying day
      Yeah
      Oh yeah
      When I touch you
You will be touched by love
(touched by love by love by love)
I climb the stairway to your world
      You can feel me there
      And you know I'm waiting
      I will be your keeper
      You possess the key

I don't know I guess it's how you see it , I see it as him saying I be there for you, and I don't hear a female voice saying no you won't and quit stalking me , you could be right one thing we can do is Google the internet and ask what this song is about, I done that before on a song and got a pretty honest answer so I'm going to try that and see what internet has to say, I need to know myself because I don't like listening to dark lyrics

Lol you are right, I never thought of it that way , I guess I don't think like a stalker, but it's weird , this would mean that anyone I love that makes promises to someone could be a stalker, kinda like firting is now considered sexual harassment, I'm old school everything is so upside down anymore but in some minds upside down is right way up for them the whole world is weird , pat benatar has a song called hell is for children some ppl say she hates children , blue oyster cult don't fear of the reaper some say it's about suicide, but if you read what the band says it was written for they say different

Yes, this album is haunted by this mysterious romantic persona Waite uses as an alter-ego when writing lyrics. Half of the songs on the album are like that, and you find this "Crying Clown" on Johns´s solo-albums as well.
