Graduated from high school in '89 and went straight into the Marine Corps but I grew up listening to these guys and bands such as Damn Yankees, Warrant, Queesnryche, Def Leppard !! I could go on and on. I'm still a rock guy through and through!! I'll probably still be listening when I'm 70 years old, point is music like this will always be timeless and these guys earned their reputation with pure, musical talent, not doing covers of other artists songs, enough said !!
I agree,I’m a metal head (Between the Buried and Me, Opeth etc.and I prefer big hair pop bands far more than any of the crap that has come out in 30 years!
They just don't have the heart & soul nor writing & arrangement ability to create such a mega rock ballad like this. This is AOR at its best. The maturity of the lyrics, the flow, the melody, basically everything in it speaks to your soul.
Are there any really good rock bands that could do power ballads other than those still performing that are from the 80s or 90s. Ballads may have gone away when hair bands went away. Could be wrong
Karinin75 Had to look this up and see how it felt to watch this video again. The last time I saw it my life was desparately spiraling away but the song was powerful enough to leave a positive impression that has lasted 25 years. Today it's still beautiful and stands alone, unstained.
In 1989, I was in love. I finally got a date with her and found our she loved Bad English. Went out and bought the cassette to play on our date. We’ve been married 29 years now.
I think this is the male equivalent of those songs by Heart from the '80s, like "What About Love" and "Alone." Very dramatic and very emotional with a huge chorus. It's amazing how even "love songs" and "ballads" from the '80s had such powerful sounds and killer guitar solos. You don't hear ballads that rock out like this anymore.
"Songs" meaning "power ballads". The reason we don't hear them anymore is because there were *so many of them* that by the end of the 90s they had become a cliche, something that would get everyone laughing at the karaoke bar.
You definitely don't hear songs like this today, and it's a shame. These emotional songs are what music is all about. They are the songs that can make you feel pain, love, happiness, sadness, even if you're not going through it yourself. Today's generation doesn't know how to feel the way we did.
John Waite > There's something the way he pronounces and puts weight on every word & makes them very well meaningful & hypnotic, plus that 'prince in the castle-like' voice that makes him unique and stand out among other rock vocalists.
I was 16 years old when this band and song was "it". Just stumbled upon it and now I 44 years old. Oh, the bitter sweet memories. Reminds me of first love and girlfriend.
I can help getting a emotional feeling inside of me. We as teenagers had a era that other generations wish could have. We called our girl on the telephone and we embrace at our school lockers. Does anyone remember this.
I came here to find some old soul like me to drive down to the memory lane. If you close your eyes and just listen to this song..america was great back then,
I've always found John Waite's voice to be exceptionally emotional. There are certain "protagonistic" mannerisms in his voice, the only other singer I can think of with similar mannerisms is Maynard James Keenan
Its easy to understand with his music this song gave me so much peace when my wife and i fight we live togeather but seperate lives and theres so much pain but songs like these helps
I forgot about this song. It must have hit a core memory, because I listened to it three hours straight driving back from a business trip, while driving a Dodge Charger. My 50-year-old self was in 80’s midlife crisis Heaven.
June 2020 and this song is still awesome. I miss the 80’s so much. Life was a lot simpler back then. I bought this cassette when it 1st came out. Still have it.
Can't stop falling love to this masterpiece..every words is too meaningful...really has a price...also the concept of the video fits to the song...john waite you are adorable...
Another GREAT Bad English song along with "When I See You Smile" are the best, the guitar solos, instrumentals and vocals are genius!! I love their songs!! 😍😍🎸🥁🎤🎶

I wish I was 20 again and listening to this kind of music. It evokes a lot of memories of the people, places and events. Long live the 80's and 90's rock ballads!
omg its not even close...this is a vastly inferior song, in every possible way, from the keyboard intro to the verse to the chorus to the bridge to solo to the solo to the outro. its not a bad song, its just ok, and listening to it now I have a hard time comprehending how it was even a hit
So who is still listening to BAD ENGLISH in 2019? They are Awesome! Wouldn't be awesome if got back together to make a new album? Jamila Andersson still praying for you! I miss you my friend!
This is a classic love song that resonates and is so ageless because the lyrics are relatable and timeless. The camera work in this video is gorgeous and the little smile at 2:03 makes me laugh. Of the videos I have seen on this group, think this one and Forget Me Not are the best videos because of how rich the color pallet is and the great many cuts in both videos. However, I think this one, overall, is my favorite because of that little smile amidst such seriousness.
I dint like this song. I guess this type of song sucks. For instance, my Favourite band is Aerosmyth yet i do not like the songs cryin or Andel. Me Pizza!
Now 2024!!! And the best!!!❤❤❤

Spot on! The way they made the instruments sound in that era. The genuine music. The heartfelt lyrics. Today its all been lost in technical wizardry.
