- How much different are the two stock TRX-4M tires?
Are the offerings from JConcepts and Injora better?
These are the questions we are looking to answer in this test!
I took my mostly stock TRX-4M Defender and put 6 different tires on it, and put it through 6 different tests - all to find out which tire combo was really the best.
Tires tested:
- Stock Canyon Trail tires from the Defender
- Stock BFGs from the Bronco
- JConcepts Tusk: amzn.to/3G8uQ51
- JConcepts Landmines: amzn.to/3v5nTuZ
- Injora MT: amzn.to/3VbZaQn
- Injora AT: amzn.to/3HOOrIw

Great video. I have the mud terrains you tested in the video. They work awesome with wheel weights and when you install all the injora brass parts (just did this today and it makes a huge difference with all the added front end weight).. added the steering link, caster, steering blocks and swapped all the bearings… took a while but so worth it!!!
Great to hear!
I have some of those parts on my workbench!
Awesome video. Thanks for this. Tires can be a game changer 100% and its tough to choose sometimes. The Injora AT & Injora MT were absolutely amazing tires. I'll be ordering some.
They have been doing great for me!
Good to see a video on these injora AT tyres, I'm waiting for them to be delivered and wasn't sure if I made the right decision but looks like it was a good choice!
Yes! A good choice for sure!
I've tried running my TRX4M without the body and bumpers and it's impressive even in stock form, great video man 👍
100%!!! So much better without the body!
This is the best RUclips channel I found for rc thanks brother for showing us all this cool stuff happy holidays 😀 😎
Happy holidays!
Thank you!
Great comparison video Troy. Merry Christmas my friend
Thanks, you too!
SOLID work, good findings! 👍 Another thing to consider running outdoors is the environmental conditions - let the tires sit in the sun for half an hour in summer time and they will literary become sticky (there is a vid somewhere of a guy having hard times (😜) with tires and batteries in a frosty winter morning).
That is a good point, thanks!
Actually i’ve done the same test and had the same results! Bronco tire dead last, Defender tires are much better (and softer) At the end my set of Injora’s MT (at 2.44in) are incredible! With the metal beadlocks AND wheel weight i can climb a 45 degrees wood incline with the Defender body and 52 degrees with the Bronco one. Great video, thanks for all these infos!
Thanks for the kind words, and glad to hear the results are the same..
I found that after cutting both sets of stock tires and modifying them to be more aggressive that the BFGs actually are better than the canyon trails
Bronco are great for high speed gearing.
Love the content man keep up the videos thanks for all you do and all the info you share!❤
Thank you for the kind words!
@@RoadsideRC I am going to link your channel on a few of my pages online if that is okay?
@@JayJacksRC I guess so - not sure what the implications are.
I’m in it for the on road bro but I always enjoy your videos 💯👍
I appreciate that!
Great comparison video. We are still running the Canyon Trails on our Defenders. Once the snow melts maybe we will try some new rubber 😉
The Canyon Trails are good!!!
Great video and tire test
Thanks 👍
I have those same new Injora all terrain tires on my Defender, they are a serious game changer
Agree!
Been dealing with the minis for little over a year. When i opened my defender i just new that was going to be a contender. I now have them mounted to my scx24 comp build 🤣
Nice!
Thanks for the video to settle an argument here. Now I win and my kids owe me a new set of tires!
Tires are always a great upgrade!
thanks bro i have the bronco and i just ordered theMT
Glad to help!
Great video brother!🤙🏽🙌🏽
Thank you!
Just replaced all the drive train bushings with sealed bearings from INJORA and the Defender is a lot smoother. Getting my crawler gears this week and will do the rest of the bearings. Have a set of INJORA beadlocks with RC4WD mudslingers and 5 mm spacers. Need some weight on the front end and I I think it’ll crawl much better.
I have the bearing set sitting on my workbench!!
I noticed a difference cornering, I’m debating to do the Furitech motor swap, I have it in my SCX24 and love it. I’ll see how the low gear set does first hoping it has that extra torque.
I always enjoy videos where more budget conscientious products do well. I don't know much of anything about crawling. But, it appears to me a light body is an asset when climbing and bigger tires are sometimes the same. If you're going out on the trails without any difficult crawling scale bodies look cool and perform well. But, your demonstration crawl without a body seems to demonstrate lighter is better.
Yes! Lighter is always better!!!
@@RoadsideRC That's what I thought. I am always surprised when people say that this or. that crawler is really good because it's a hard plastic body. Look at the Axial Base Camp with a light weight body and it performs well. As you know in on road racing there are light weight or extra light for bodies races. Are there times in crawling where smaller tires are better?
@@michaeldorich4485 Yes! Too much tire is a bad thing. After you get to a certain height, you are just increasing your center of gravity.
You will see most folks stick to the 1.9" wheel and 4.75" tire - seems a happy medium on tire size.
@@RoadsideRC Thank you.
with the injora's glue the vent hole shut and take the foam out and the traction is insane!
Interesting tip! Thanks!
Both and your tires are based off of Voodoo KLR tread designs. The KLR/m are absolutely my favorite tires in 1.9s and if I get one of those TRX4M's I'm probably going to get the enjoy KLR/m style tires
Agree!
Thanks for posting. Great test. Those wheels that came with the injora. Are they the offset or standard?
You can see all of the details on them, here: amzn.to/3GeaYNP
@@RoadsideRC Sweet thanks.
Liked this video, however did you test the bronco, I would think possible different weight distribution not by much but can make all the difference.
So my question is. The mud or all terrain? Looking to make that purchase today. I have the bronco version.
Really don't think the Bronco would have changed the result of which tires were better...just the truck would have performed better overall.
Between the MT and the AT - I would suggest you pick the one you think looks better. They performed very similarly.
I just bought my TRX on Friday. While I was there buying it my hobby guy highly recommend I get the brass rings and 3 piece rims. I tested mine stock and then with the brass rings. I noticed an Improvement over stock. I am confused why the stock tires don’t have foams . The aftermarket come with foams. I also found the stock tires aren’t tall enough for the larger scale over a 1/24 .
Thanks for the feedback. I am not typically a fan of adding rotating mass, so I steer clear kf the weighted rings.
Thank you
You're welcome!
I switched the defender tires to my bronco its perfect
Makes sense!
Could test the traxxas Baja pro x, jconecpt green compounds and lgrp tires in a part2 video
Good idea!
Have you tried cutting the canyon yet? I just switched from the bfg to them uncut and it's a huge difference.
I never did. I cut the 1/10 version - it helped them a lot. But haven't done it to this scale.
I only have the Defender and the Bronco is on its way so correct me if I’m wrong but is the Bronco lighter and less top heavy? Would the tires test differently with the different body?
The Bronco body is lighter weight - correct!
I believe the tire test would still show the Injora are the best.
@@RoadsideRC thanks for your response!
I agree that the test results may not change. Do you know if the wheel wells are different sizes? I’m thinking about tire size and fender rub as well.
I’ve had great luck with the Micky Thompson tires, nice upgrade from the stock BFG tires on the Bronco. I have also upgraded just about every part available for the Bronco including the brass weighted accessories, made a huge difference in being able to crawl up obstacles.
Great! Glad they work for you!
Did you put some extend on wheel hexes?
Did you add any brass components when you did the tire an wheels test?
Nope - still basically stock.
@Roadside RC how is the climbing angle handle?
I just picked one up one of these with similar wheels on order
Hey Troy will most aftermarket tires fit onto the stock defender rims? Thanks
Yes. As long as they are 1.0 tires, they should work. However, getting a set of metal beadlocks is super valuable.
@@RoadsideRC ok great thanks
Do you also have experience with the micky thompson? what do you think of that?
I have tried it, but not in this scale.
What size are the Injora MT's you used?
You can see the specs here: Injora MT: amzn.to/3VbZaQn
Nice comparison! What was the height of the Injora tires?
62mm
Just the right size for these trucks!
Was worried they would rub so good to onow
Did you have foam inside the Injora tires?
Yes - I used the foams they provided with the tires.
I still prefer the scale looks of the Defender over the Bronco. Why not mount a spare tire on the front hood like some people do on the Defender. ALso use some brass wheels inserts only up front.
Those are all possible things to make the Defender better - true.
Do you leave the foam inserts in the tires?
Yes I did.
can you put canyon trail tyres on on injora beadlock wheels?
Yes - but I believe you need to cut a small amount off of the tire bead.
Thanks! I'd like to switch tyres but I've heard injora ones rub at high steering angles and I don't want my wheels to stick out any further
@Will Taylor I run the setup you see here in the video and dont have any issues.
I have that same clock but with trains !
Nice!
Should have watched this video before I ordered some interco 1 inch tires. They look even smaller than the stock ones now that I have them in hand. Wasted money I guess. Should I not have gotten 1 inch?
1 inch is the right rim diameter, but the tire can also be different diameters on the outside.
@@RoadsideRC oh ok. I expected them to be bigger than the stock tires. I guess I mean taller. But they are actually shorter and make the Bronco look pretty dumb lol
Can you drive in water with foams in the tires
Yes you can!
However, they will absorb water, so I suggest venting the tires to help the water get out.
Those TRX4M are so deceiving with their big top heavy bodies... :)
Nice test tho, thanks !
Agree 100%!
Did a trail with them yesterday...and now the Defender bodybhas to GO.
The Bronco went over so much more stuff than the Defender.
which injora tires were used without clearance issues?
Both of the ones in the video.
There must be a difference between the Defender and Bronco. I just bought some Injora 62mm tires for my stock Bronco, and the front tires rub very badly on the bumper, and turning is also difficult. Many people have trimmed their bumpers to make them fit.
I bought 1 in metal beadlocks for my M & they didn’t fit the wheels they wouldn’t mount to the tires.
Seems odd. Mine fit with zero issues.
You should do another video with adding wheel weights
I'm not a fan of wheel weights. I don't like to add rotating mass.
@Roadside RC so I'm looking at getting a m4 bronco when they come back into stock in my area, but it looks like it needs more weight for traction, how would you add weight to it then?
@Roadside RC and I was also thinking the wheel weights would be the lowest part of the truck for better stability?
@@RoadsideRCwhy not. My new set working nicely. Low gears help also
Weigh the chassis down, it’s too light. Canyons are great in tenth and eighteenth scale, Yeah Racing has some alloy wheels with tires with narrow track and firm foams for SCX24 - they could be very scale and perform well on the TRX-4M Defender 🤙
Good tip!
Injora seems to be the best for small crawlers.
Sure seems like it!
Injora MT or AT?
I tested both.
Links are in the video description.
Which is a better all around tire in your opinion? Thanks
I never buy brand name accessories for any of my 4 crawlers. Amazon has some very good RC products that last and work as they should...
This is true many times!
Up hill in sand would be a good test
Good idea!
I'm not nearly as round as I once was, for the record.
Nice!
I prefer the mud tires - either Injora or RC4WD's Mud Terrain models, the size and grip make them work for my style. I never had much luck with the stock tires, so they all became covers for rc controller grips and spares :D
The injora would also do better because they have metal beadlocks. It's common sense.
The difference on weight at this scale is basically zero.
🎅🎅👍👍
the mud terrain MT works good in mud dirt conditions on rock crawling they are JUNK the knons make u bounce and lose all your grip, get the really big hyrax looking tire they works REALLY good and are a softer compound than the mud terrain injoras
Interesting!
Hasn't been my experience in my area. I just took these tires to our local 1/10 outdoor course. Worked really well, no issues with traction on rocks at all.
@@RoadsideRC could just be the inclines i was choosing i would wheel spin wayyy more with the MT they are not very wide either causing me to lose some sidehilling as for the hyrax looking injoras they sag more creating a bigger footprint they are wider and still dont roll over i just walk up whatever it goes up with no wheel spin unless it wants to flip im not getting traction loss ill have to throw vid comparison up on my other channel for ya i got a couple of my rc vids on it. but in the mud hill areas i was in, those knobs were wayyyy better cause they would grab those really tiny roots and just walk up the dirt hills, but anytime i would try to pull myself up a rock ledge with the front end i would get wheel bouncing and just as i would start to climb a lug would slip and cause the next lug no make the front slightly bounce but enough to lose grip.
@@RoadsideRC i still prefer them the MT's on my FMS chevy as they look really good and with the lift they are a skinny enough tire they dont rub my wheel wells that much to hurt it, but anything wider rubs too much when flexed. so i give the MT's that they have their application. which is why i think they make a good mud tire too they clean out pretty good and those lugs kinda just paddle through the mud
@@RoadsideRC tbh i dont mean they are junk they are really good tires the MT's and i thought they were the best ones until i got the crawler tire thats the 64mm tall ones that look like a hyrax clone they are SUPER soft and ever since ive used them they have been so good the MT's seem like junk when i go back and watch vids of me tackling the same things with the MT as with the hyrax clones its like the MT's compared to stock a night and day difference
BFG's even suck in real life...lol
Ha! Accurate copy then!
NICE INJORA TIRES. Are theY direct fit tires.
There is a link in the video description. They came as wheels and tires together.
Also are you having the O RING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR DRIVE SHAFT PIN poppy out On the TRX4 M. Any hacks for it
I had them pop one time when I had the wheels on too tight. Otherwise, no issue.
Put heat shrink over them
I’m go to be TRAILING with my Trx4 M not really much Crawling. ARE THERE OTHER HACKS ALONG WITH SHRINK WRAP. Can USE Loctite THREAD LOCKER. (I already put PTFE THREAD SEAL TAPE ON THEM SO FAR on Front and back O rings. Does it happen to all 4 O Rings. Thanks
@@RoadsideRC so loosens the wheels. I’m going to be Using it stock for Now and not really crawling Much with it.
@@ironj100Traxxas seems to think those cheap orings are a good idea. They aren't. Over just the course of months, they can dry rot or tear from use, and it's very inconvenient to lose the pin.
- Do NOT use thread lock or glue on them.
- Do consider using heat shrink. Works great.
- Or just invest in better shafts.
