The purpose for this video is to give you factual explanations for why a heat gun is the worst tool for a customizer to use when working with water based paints. Take a look and leave a comment if this was helpful!!
ok people befor you do your customs please do your research first you WILL need a heat gun when working with fabrics and NOT with leather. if you are painting on fabric a hair dryer will not get hot enough to keep the soft because the paint needs to be heated to get that softness back please go do your research people angeles paint is what you need so yh go look you will see and thank me later but he is right NOT on leather people
A heat gun is used for Angelus 2 soft and Gac 900 paint medium mixed with acrylic paint to use on FABRIC. These need to be heated to 300 degrees for 3-5 mins. So unless you want to sit there for 45 minutes with a blow dryer then when using on fabric you should use a heat gun. But yes excessive heat will dry out leather so caution should be used when there is a mixture of fabric and leather combo.
When heating the fabric do you do 1 full 3-5 mins or do you let it rest and apply heat in between? Sorry if it seems confusing
Cheers brother I was about to buy a heat gun for my sneaker collection.
I always have a look on RUclips first👍🏼
Just getting in to customizing and bought a heat gun!! Thanks for the info....switching to a hair dryer now!!
Thank you for the words of wisdom. I've been using a heat gun from jump since that is what I see everyone else using. I'm definitely stealing my wife's blow dryer for my customs from now on.
CubaRican226 thank you
The heat gun is neccessary for the angelus 2-soft fabric medium you mix your leather paint with when you are painting things like vans, denim jackets, cotton sweaters, and the 2 soft needs to be heated to a high temperature for it to process the paint into the fabric. Without using at heatgun at 300 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes on it the 2 soft will not work and you will not have the highest quality those products are intended for.
Isnt a heat gun and hair dryer essentially the same thing? One is just massively hotter than the other? Both just pull in and move air air over a heating element.
What about when using 2 Soft for fabrics? Do I need to use high heat to set it?
I believe u have to use the heat gun because a hair dryer doesn’t get as hot to keep the fabric soft
@@kingtvt973 do you have any recommendations for which heat gun to get?
@@shellynazyia not really try Amazon but look for the one that has the best reviews
@@kingtvt973 do you have to use a heat gun on fabric even when you dont use 2 soft? And if you wash something fabric will the paint come off?
@@Tyrece_Huggins I believe you need the too soft mixed with the paint it’s been a minute since I tried it.
I’m so happy you made this video, I saw it on Instagram but, I was working and couldn’t watch it at the time. I appreciate you dropping gems today.
Marrio Banuelos appreciate you
Marrio Banuelos no problem
Thank u so much I was about to purchase a heat gun u saved my $😭
Only if your painting on leather. If your painting on denim, cotton, vans shoes, look up angelus 2-soft fabric medium. It needs to be heated to activate and work, its meant to help the fabric accept the paint and keep the fabric soft.
buy some and mix it with angelus leather paint and use a heat gun at 300 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes on where you applied the paint/2-soft mixture.
Flip side
There's another angelus products for painting on leather if you stay painting leather only and still don't need a heat gun.
Omg I just brought a damn heat gun and the thought of using a blow dryer didn't cross my mind😟😒 thanks for the tip
That is the dumbest comment I've ever heard. A heat gun is used for numerous things. I can set my heat gun from 120 degrees to 1000 degrees. I can set my heat gun to the same degree to the same temp as a hair dryer, and they'll do the same job. Tell us all how you can heat set angelus 2 soft with a hair dryer... you're supposed to heat set at 300 degrees for 3-5 min with heat gun. Angelus themselves say to use a heat gun. Most paint companies suggest that you use heat guns. Also, there isn't a difference between a har dryer and heat gun, at the end of the day they're both putting out heated air
Referred here by 2 other customizers. Thanks. Moving to a blow dryer now. Appreciated.
sean dankers thanks for tuning in!
Thank you but I have a question. If you use the heatgun on a lower setting to cure in between coats, would that resolve the issue of moisture retention between coats?
How about using the "cool" setting on a heat gun when possible? Would that work?
A heat gun with adjustable temperature is what you need.. The cheap one from harbor freight is not good because it doesn't adjust temperatures. It gets too hot and will melt certain things.
What about for drying fabric when using the 50/50 of gac 900 paint
ab23kicks the answer does not change
Yes . It was really helpful and a million than you for sharing your knowledge
I like how well he explained it
What about curing the glue for sole swapping? Heat gun or hair dryer ?
Hey need adice...so howcome when i apply paint it has like a line from previous coat like its darker then newer coat or vis versa like maybe i applied to thick? Also when i hit it with heat gun on wet paint and i get closer it actually spreads paint in a splatter effect?. Any help
Well said sir
I don't have to hurt my pocket
Everything he's saying is true. However, I use a hair dryer to dry in between coats and at the end. Then when it's finished and dry I heat set it. The hair dryer doesn't get hot enough to set it. But don't burn your jacket or shoes. But I do jackets, not shoes.
Literally was about to purchase a heat gun today. Definitely going to use my wife hair dryer.
ME TOOOO
Do you also use a hairdryer for heat setting??
KLF you don’t need to heat set acrylics on leather the curing process once you’ve dried it is natural.
DEZ Customz i meant heat setting fabric
KLF no. You need a heat press or patiently iron.
Just bought a mufuckin heat gun. I’m new to restorations and customs. I’m takin that bitch back ASAP
I came here searching for if a heatgun could be used to remove creases, anyone tried it?
Your onlybsuppose to use the heat fun to heat addhesive lile the glue thats it nothing less or more to get the adhesive to stick the best.
Brother when you use gac 900 can the dryer work good to set the paint
I can’t believe I’m JUST now following you on RUclips 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ too spoiled with IG and FB 😂😂. Great info as always!!
I use hair dryer myself, works great. Heat gun is just hype. And I got both. Owned both even before doing shoes. Heat gun is mainly used for ppl to look professional on video. If you're camera is crap, heat gun is least of worries.
Thanks bro. I really appreciated
I normally air dry. Just bought a heat gun. Never used it and just by wanting to up my game I just took a blow dryer to my customs sneaks cause I use it when I sculpt. Fly video. Thanks for the confirmation. Also we got close to the same amount of years invested. I started around 9 or 10 cause my mom bought me some shoes I really didn't like so I took markers to them in a rage and ended up coming out glorious.
Could u just air dry leather paint?
So can you use the high heat setting on the blow dryer?
Jacob G yes. But again the whole point of the video is that air movement is more important than heat.
So it's not good for sole protectors?
Savage_Aiimz-Tv for that sure.
It is. Don't listen to him
TJ GOTKICKS ok
TJ GOTKICKS I never said anything about sole protectors. And no one has to listen at all. I’ve been at this business a long time. I make a living, feed a family, pay bills and mortgage and more. I offer my knowledge that comes from years of experience. You can do whatever you like. But there’s a reason I am what I am in this business.
How long will it do you need to apply the blow dryer to the customs?
Remain Stainless huh?
You Are Right Bro .I did Not Like It From day one , i also preferred a hair dryer.
Thank you for that information!
I thought that using the heat gun was not to evaporate and dry, but to set leather paint to the surface on a molecular level
New Things negative. I give a full explanation. Nothing molecular about it.
@@dezcustomz6118 Well you talk about drying, and I listened carefully. Its that I have heard from angelus and other customizing channels that it is required to be heat set at higher temperatures to properly set into the work. Especially is using a fabric medium as well. Is this not correct?
New Things angelus sells heat guns. I just explained why heat guns are bad. Go ahead and use it bro. Have fun.
@@dezcustomz6118 Pardon me, but I am just utterly confused, and asking. Not starting an argument. Thank you for your time.
Great tip
Does this apply to restorations as well? Or just customs?
Xzaviertheshoedoctor if you’re doing a sole separation sure. But anything for paint is bad!
Make a burger with it 😂
Bruh if heat gun were bad for custom shoes and angelus sales them for shoes they wouldn’t put it on the store because they test it first before selling it so why you talking if angelus is the best store for custom shoes and more
You’re right. They are the best paint on the market. They are also in the business of making money. I’ve used a 14.00 hairdryer for years. Works great. I’ve been in this business 6+ years. I’m posting pics of a heat gun being used as we speak on my IG (@dezcustomz) story. I’m putting out information to HELP. You can absolutely choose to ignore it.
@@dezcustomz6118Correct, they’re in the business of making money. They wouldn’t stand behind something that would hurt their brand. Enough people have used the heat gun method that they’ve recommend and haven’t had any issue. Your method might be fine but don’t discredit someone else in the process. That’s improper bro
What can I do for the paint to stop coming off the midsole?
Reynaldo Bossio for midsoles the most important thing is prep.
all you have to do is give distance to the heat gun and shoe .... it’s a lot more efficient and works just as fine, waste of a video, THEY BOTH BLOW AIR .... LMAO 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Jacob McLeod there’s not enough air movement. I been at this for 7 years. You were in elementary school when I started this. If you give distance what’s the point? I’m just trying to educate. If you don’t want free information that’s up to you. You can look up the facts i mention and see that they’re all true.
DEZ Customz doesn’t even make sense, they both move air the same way .. one just blows hotter air than the other, just causing the paint to dry faster, the facts you state are just common sense, you said them in a way that tried making you sound smart lol, sorry but it’s just common sense .. i’ve talked to people who have been at it longer than you and nobody has ever brought it up.
DEZ Customz trust me, i’ve been a fan of your work and respect you but there are paints that require a certain level of heat to help adhere/stick better ... if a blow dryer can’t obtain that certain level of heat it won’t fully stick, even angelus/reshoevn8er, 2 top brands suggest a heat gun
Jacob McLeod how do they move air the same. You get way more air movement from a blow dryer. Period. It’s not even close.
Jacob McLeod meanwhile I’ve never used a heat gun and make durable cleats for NFL players as seen on the field. You make no sense.
You should be more professional. Talk to your buddies OFF camera. Don’t waste OUR time doing it. Here to learn not watch you ‘watch up dawg’ to your buddies. Just saying. Heat gun works fine for me. 👍🏻. Looking forward to other videos. Here to learn.
Shut the fuck up Karen
Yeah shut the fuck up karen
