The thing that always got me was the music. The game starts and you hear the pallet town theme. You're in your room, you don't have any Pokemon yet, and your journey is about to start. Then you go through the game. You catch Pokemon, meet different trainers, see the world, collect gym badges, all the while becoming better and stronger. You beat the cinnabar island gym leader and only have one left to go before you face victory road. You sail across route 21 on the back of one of these Pokemon you've raised. You reach dry land, and what do you hear? The pallet town theme. Except this time it feels different. The last time you heard this, you were leaving town with only a single, low level Pokemon. Now you've returned, and you're no longer that little kid with that little Pokemon anymore. You're a trainer, and quite possibly the greatest trainer Kanto has ever seen. You've changed so much, but the town hasn't. It's still the same people, the same houses, and the same music. And then you leave again, knowing your life is about to change once more. That's always resonated with me.
That's kind of how I was with the Latios flying in ORAS. I had been to these places, experienced them and their stories. Now I had a different perspective. I was flying above, seeing how far I had come. The peaceful music.
The fact you took the time to comment that blows my mind. You're everything that's wrong with the internet and I wish you nothing but the worst in life.
+Niagara I never heard of Calvin and Hobbes until I was 17 (overseas American raised in asia) but the moment I happened across a book of it at a friend's place I immediately fell in love with it ... so ... IN. YO. FACE.
He releases videos every 2-3 weeks and his Patreon patrons are giving him a bit over $1,600 per video on top of the hundreds to thousands he makes off of ad revenue (albeit over time)...so he's pulling in a minimum of, what, $4000 a month? Yeah, unless he lives somewhere crazy expensive he's going to be okay.

Your channel is one of those things that bring a whole new aspect to entertainment and content. It is not only a video, it is a retrospective of things that most people find unimportant and that are a part of the life of so many of us. Thanks for making videos i love them.
I'm glad you pointed out the misconception about Tajiri. People on fb and even wikipedia use that picture, when Tajiri doesn't nearly look that old to begin with.
I get a chill every time I watch one of your videos. The music, the editing, the wonderful flow of your narration, the influx of interesting information. Everything just fits together so perfectly. Seriously, thank you for making top quality videos dude. You are fucking awesome.
Another nice video, them transitions are so smooooth! The visuals between 1:25 to 1:35 were really simple but looked great and I love just the wording you used, "little creatures crawling along the cable" with the Caterpie sprite! I edit videos too so there are just little visual moments about your stuff that really stick out to me over other RUclips creators. I loved growing up on Pokemon, and one of my earliest and most exciting memories is me and my cousin in their backyard trading so that I could evolve my Haunter into a Gengar and I was so happy when I finally got it! I participated in all of this but all these years I never really consciously thought about Pokemon as a game platform that was so interconnected with socialization, but it was really interesting to hear you talking about it in that context. Good stuff!
Not sure if this means anything but recently I keep coming back to this video just due to how well this is written and how inspirational the video sounds. I feel you captured something about Pokémon that just resonates with me and I appreciate that.
I feel like I say this on every video but Kristain you are seriously my favorite creator on this website. The narrative, the editing, the graphical component, all 10/10. Topics I don't think I would give a shit about suddenly become important in my eyes. You truly are a genius man keep'em coming
These videos are great! Lots of emotions in all of them really bringing out the memories that we associate with everything you've covered. So all I have to say is thank you for making such great content for this community too watch.
Dude... I love your videos! You handle everything in a clean, organized, and informative matter. I can tell that you lend a passion to the video and its subject matter. But most of all, I dig the music in your videos! So chill.
oh man, ive been close to tears on many videos, but this one legit made me cry, pokemon has been such an important part of my life and its so amazing to see it is the same for so many people thanks to this little game i was able to meet so many cool people, including my lover whom ive know for 8 years and deeply love when people talk bad about it and use it as an insult or dont know how big Pokemon really is it saddens me because this is not just a game, its an experience that made a lot of peoples lives better
If you notice, each thumbnail color (ROYGBIV) seems to have an individual theme and the purple/violet one has been (so far) music themed. So, if he does MF DOOM (fingers crossed) it won't be for another four videos.
I'm so excited for Sun and Moon. I can't wait for the Pokebank update, so I can port forward my Pearl-caught legit shiny Heatran and train him up to perfect IVs with bottlecaps!
Pokemon is one of the best things that happened to me in elementary school. My family moved around a bit in my first few years in public school but having pokemon Silver during lunch and recess times really helped me break the ice with other kids in these new schools I was in. Some of my earliest and best memories are sitting in a cafeteria surrounded by other kids with their Game Boy Colors and talking about their favorites and trading with each other. The Pokemon series will always be one of my favorites.
Instantly subscribed, this video was absolutely beautifully said, and could not have been said better. This was amazing, and I'm so glad I took the 5 minutes to watch this video. Amazing job on this video!
that is UNCANNY, i did the EXACT same thing in the first minute of the video. unusual as i rarely go out of my way to smash the like button but KAPTAINKRISTIAN ALWAYS nails the details
i love coming across channels like this, real quality channels like yours are what keep youtube interesting to me. i absolutely love your videos! subscribed! keep up the good work man. much love from NYC!
You are the best. I always learn so much every video. Thank you for sharing your insight with us. Your videos always give me a sense of wistful nostalgia.
Dude, i tried telling you this on Twitter but you really need to start tagging your name in your videos so that more of your videos pop up in the side bar and you are able to keep your channel growing way past your current success. I had a few viral hits and didn't do this in the past and even though the glitch the reason for my current failure, I'd be better off now if I knew to do that.
This is amazing. I'm always struggling with how to make friends playing games online like Battlefield, Dead By Daylight or GTA V, but with Pokemon it's always been effortless to strike up a conversation with people. I'm playing Moon, and even though it skews younger than other games in the series, I like it a lot.
One of the best channels on RUclips imho and I've watched a hell of a lot of RUclips. I like video documentaries like these and like on the channel 'Every Frame A Painting'. Your style reminds me of his in that you're both very thoughtful about the details, the pacing, and the overall production as a piece itself, instead of a part of a totally formulaic series. Keep it up!
RUclips nowadays has very few high quality channels that care about their content as much as you. I am blown away every video you make. Keep it up! Thank you!
kaptainkristian wohh ! you replied to me!. actually he didn't send me here. his Volkswagen video came few hours ago and many comments said how high quality video editing it is. And one of the commentator suggested your channel which produce similar quality videos! Liked your channel!
Good video as always, though I feel the need to correct your statement about Satoshi Tajiri being autistic. The biography that described his neurological disorder stated that he had Asperger's Syndrome, not autism, and even then the veracity of this information is debatable.
***** I also have Asperger's; I personally prefer that people with the condition be referred to as having Asperger's, not autism, mainly for the purpose of disambiguation. The two conditions differ in how certain behavioral elements develop.
Agreed, saying you have autism is too vague, you need to be specific. I also have Aspergers and I love it when I find out other people have it, especially when they're brilliant geniuses or artists.
It's such a shame they never left the 90's. If they did we could be playing amazing Pokemon MMO's and/or adventure style games like Uncharted but with Pokemon. Instead we have the same tired old isometric view JRPG on essentially the same device. Then Pokemon go happened and that was basically rubbing salt into the wound. I love Nintendo and Game Freak, but I can't support companies who don't innovate.
So you haven't seen any of their spin off games and Fanmade games. They're exactly how you said. Also they use the same formula like a Pixar Formula, they play it safe and familiar so fans won't say "I miss the old Pokemon." When it becomes an Uncharted game. But that will never happen.
TheGooseinator You can breed your starter and trade the offspring, you know. That's been a game mechanic since Gold and Silver. The real struggle is getting event legendaries, which are almost always exclusive to Japan or from GameStop serial code giveaways.
@kaptainkristian Goddamn man, in the age of creating content that's sharable and optimizing videos for short attention spans, I LOVE how your videos have taken the opposite stride and effectively brings back the "sit and watch" functionality of youtube that I miss so much. Just want to let you know that the amount of work that goes into your graphics is not under appreciated. I hope you can continue this for long time.
But ... this video is under six minutes long. Not to mention, nearly all of his videos are a call to nostalgia which makes them instantly sharable. I wouldn't exactly call it an opposite stride.
I love your videos. They are the coolest videos I have seen on youtube and no matter how many times I watch them they are still amazing. Keep making videos please!
Oh Kaptain my Kaptain.

I love this channel. Kaptain can talk about the history of toilets and still make it sound cool and interesting.
The Pink Man I wad thinking the same thing his content so good
Where have his videos been all my life?!
You sit the other way around according to South Park.
If the next video is on toilets I'm blaming you
To be fair, that topic sounds interesting all on its own!
Your editing is so amazing holy shit
This is the greatest channel in the history of life!! Donald Glover, Calvin & Hobbes, South Park, Futurama, Pokemon! It's like you know me personally!
The Lonely #1 ikr!
Or maybe you're just a cookie cutter of a male millennial. Does it surprise you that other people also like the same internationally popular things?
The fact you took the time to comment that blows my mind. You're everything that's wrong with the internet and I wish you nothing but the worst in life.
The Lonely #1 other then pokebore I completely agree
+Niagara I never heard of Calvin and Hobbes until I was 17 (overseas American raised in asia) but the moment I happened across a book of it at a friend's place I immediately fell in love with it ... so ... IN. YO. FACE.
Pokemon was that one thing that everyone had in common no matter what social class you come from.
Every single time, I am astonished at the quality of editing in these videos. You're a great inspiration to strive to be like man!
tearing up, thanks for dialing it in so masterfully
Another BANGER video man. Seriously....what an amazing channel!
Please tell me you're making sufficient money off these videos, because I need you to keep making them forever :l
derp ish 1-2 dollar for thousand views.
derp ish with his patrons he's making a good amount of money per video so I highly doubt he's stopping anytime soon.
He has a Patreon! Go and support it so that he earns well deserved cash for these videos. www.patreon.com/kaptainkristian
He releases videos every 2-3 weeks and his Patreon patrons are giving him a bit over $1,600 per video on top of the hundreds to thousands he makes off of ad revenue (albeit over time)...so he's pulling in a minimum of, what, $4000 a month? I was just about to reply the same way to the video. lol
-fellow Patreon supporter.
You make some of the best videos I've seen in years.
Your voice and the visuals you provide is perfect ASMR for anyone.
my goodness your videos are a inspiration to me and to others as well, keep up the good shit
Happy 20th anniversary to Pokemon! I'll still be playing until I'm 50 most likely.
Me too! Pokemon is never going away as far as I'm concerned.

Even if you disagree with him, you gotta' admit the guy's got the best visual style of any RUclipsr I know.

Feels good
Feels good to be here
You truly are GOAT with your video editting
The design and editing of these visual creations are just too much!! OUTSTANDING JOB!! Favorite channel so far!!
This is perfect for Pokemon's 20th anniversary.
Also that was an interesting fact about the creator of pokemon because I'm autistic too.
I get a chill every time I watch one of your videos. The music, the editing, the wonderful flow of your narration, the influx of interesting information. Everything just fits together so perfectly. Seriously, thank you for making top quality videos dude. You are fucking awesome.
Your content is simply masterful. Art in itself.
The information that you're sharing is so well laid out, but I find myself watching over and over again to study your use of motion graphics. SO GOOD!
2:28 Wow, Kristian! Great moves! Keep it up, I'm proud of you!

I feel like playing Pokemon now but I've been out the loop for so long
Chandasouk It's not like you need past game experience to play any of them.
Do it!
Phet Choon True but I don't really know what's a good/cool Pokemon anymore. They are just random animals to me now lol
Chandasouk Isn't that how it was when you first got into it though?
Well, I watched the show a long time before playing. First Pokemon game I owned was Silver.
this is my first new video with kaptain and i couldn't be more happier with the topic he choose. fuckin love this channel.
*Sees this video in my feed*
YESSS

A day when this man puts out a new video is a good day.
Incredible. From the editing, the script, even the damn closure at the end. You sir have created a masterpiece
I fucken love this channel. Good stuff mate
Dude...your editing choices are fucking phenomenal. I especially love the hook sequence and how it pulls the next scene into focus.
*KaptainKristian uploads a new video* *Immediately stops everything I'm doing to watch*
These videos are great! Lots of emotions in all of them really bringing out the memories that we associate with everything you've covered. So all I have to say is thank you for making such great content for this community too watch.

your editing is so awesome. your whole videos are! thanks dude, please never stop doing these.
MF DOOM and please!
yes please
Suprised he hasn't talked about MF Doom yet
MF Whom ? Mmmmm that would be cool
he talked about them a tiny bit in the adult swim vid
If you notice, each thumbnail color (ROYGBIV) seems to have an individual theme and the purple/violet one has been (so far) music themed. So, if he does MF DOOM (fingers crossed) it won't be for another four videos.
i fucking love the way you annunciate your constants and the way the mic picks it up
I'm so excited for Sun and Moon. I can't wait for the Pokebank update, so I can port forward my Pearl-caught legit shiny Heatran and train him up to perfect IVs with bottlecaps!
You can only train EVs. IVs are a natural, one-set-per-hatched-pokémon thing.
Not anymore, fam. IVs don't change, but a new mechanic called Hyper Training allows you to maximize stats as if your IVs were maxed.
Lieutenant Snow-Eagle Is it a Sun and Moon thing or has it been there since earlier? I only really know my stuff till gen4.
Yep, brand new for SM.
Rejoice! I don't know how it works yet, but I know you need Bottlecaps and you need to use a level 100 pokemon.

Now I really want to see a KaptainKristian shitposting channel
I find it incredible how every single one of your videos gives me the chills, you're amazing man
His intro and ending reminds me of Adult Swim.

Fantastically made video, as always, and on a topic near and dear to my heart. Thanks a million, here's to 20 more years of Pokemon!
:D
Do an episode on the iron giant
whenever you drop a video it's like Christmas everytime! Thank you for all you do Cap'n!
Hi I'm here to try out for the early squad...
Yoo, anyone know the name of the outro song?
Alex Windley hey you Tyler the creator
Yeah I wanna know this too
One of the best channels on RUclips imho and I've watched a hell of a lot of RUclips. I like video documentaries like these and like on the channel 'Every Frame A Painting'. Your style reminds me of his in that you're both very thoughtful about the details, the pacing, and the overall production as a piece itself, instead of a part of a totally formulaic series. Keep it up!
Anyone know which editing software the kaptain uses?
Id bet on after effects for much of his transitions. looks like it anyway
Probably several
JesseChitter I believe he says it on reddit. look up his account name and the comments he's made
looks like after effects + an editor like premiere/resolve/final cut
Touching video! Excellent as always, Kaptain.
I was born in 1996, so I'm always as old as Pokemon.
happy 20th
Once again you've made an incredible piece on a wonderful topic! I always feel inspired and happy after you're videos. Never stop making videos!
Can you do Avatar the Last Airbender next?
Sadman Chowdhury Oh yes!!
Sadman Chowdhury I'm watching it on Amazon prime right now! It's still so good!
RUclips nowadays has very few high quality channels that care about their content as much as you. I am blown away every video you make. Keep it up! Thank you!
I'd love to see a Spider-Man video
Secter 0547 there is one in ign channel
This is for sure your best video yet. I check everyday for a new video. They're so good.

kaptainkristian Woah never seen you in the comments before. You're great just saying, big fan
The editing and writing you've put into this is awesome. Glad to have found you!
So what your saying... is that Pokémon go sucks because your can't trade
I'm glad he didn't even mention that. I'm so friggin' tired of hearing about that fad ... even jokes mocking it annoy me.
"Pokémon Go to the polls!"
Love this. Your editing my dude, it's amazing!
bruh
for your next video
can you do whatever you want cuz these are the shit
Your editing is getting better and better. Great video, and I hope you keep up the good work!

Aspergers is a form of autism
Giygas Asperger's Syndrome is officially classified as a less severe variant of autism, but it's still better to explicitly refer to it as Asperger's.
Jesus christ all your videos are so smooth and clean and just fun to watch holy shit you're good
You do not go to the movies on a first date if you want it to be successful.
But then how do you hide the crippling self-doubt and anxiety?
LOL
Man thanx for making this, brought a tear to my eye, love these games so much... thank you.

Carlos Noriega So there's a modern pokemon mmo that's made by fans? Doubt it.
There's a saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it
Tim Beck Said the caveman to his favorite stick.
There are two already available. One is literally called Pokémmo.
Another great video! Your video editing, topics, and narrative are all top notch.
Lol good luck finding someone willing to give away their starter
TheGooseinator You can breed your starter and trade the offspring, you know. That's been a game mechanic since Gold and Silver. The real struggle is getting event legendaries, which are almost always exclusive to Japan or from GameStop serial code giveaways.
thirteenfury Oh yeah, true XD
just wanted to say your videos are killer and the editing and info are top notch and very interesting. keep it up dude!
I love watching these vids... they give you such an intense feeling of nostalgia and wistfulness.
Beautiful as always. I think you absolutely nail the essay format.
Your videos are so original, and so insightful. I really love it, keep it up!
@kaptainkristian

I come back to these videos whenever I need a little inspiration. Thanks Kaptain.
Just love the soothing music the background. I love this channel! :D
I love your videos. They are the coolest videos I have seen on youtube and no matter how many times I watch them they are still amazing. Keep making videos please!
Damnit. You, like....almost bring me to tears with how good and genuine these vids are. Pokemon Forever!
