Brad did great not disparaging Space Marines. So good in fact I think he deserves a special episode where he talks all about the Thousand Sons and Drukhari model ranges. Twenty minute episode tops.
I mean, not really, not with the massive disrespect to firstborn that were so iconic that GW had to begin updating them instead of replacing them. There's even predators and rhinos in SM2 and it seems daft to not cover the other units when this is supposed to introduce the models to new people, especially given how much of the community hates the hover tanks
Tau Battlesuits have wider variety of options, and corners. Inceptors have no corners and are just bigger bulky versions of existing Vanguard and Seraph models. So I would call you the liar. Twin pistol jumpers are an Imperial staple.
@@boutinpowered8373 gravis armor being way heavier than any of the suits used by jump marines previously means Cawl had to figure out a better jetpack design to handle the weight. Then he looked at battlesuits and got butthurt that some blue little guys who were literal cavemen last time he checked figured it out faster than he did
There is a piece of art in Rogue Trader that depicts marines with jumppacks that have been dropped from a transport that look like inceptors, wielding two plasma guns. I think inceptors are a nod to that art piece.
Thank you for offering this So me and my fellow Space Marine newbies know how to buy the subscription service faction. I will buy at MSRP so your Drukhari get a range update
The funniest part of the big iron on the invictor's hip, and genuinely why I love the model. That thing is a legitimate, actual heavy bolter that they just put a massive grip and trigger on so it can be fired like a side arm.
1:02:53 Brad, you’ve got it backwards. The ultra-bolter actually came first. Some AdMechs found it in a back closet somewhere and when none of the space marines could pick it up, they did the most rational thing they could think of: build a giant mech suit to pick up the bolter instead! And if you’re going to make a mech suit, you may as well give it a gun arm and missile pods.
What I love about Inceptors is that they are each their own individual Drop Pod. Regarding the "skis", they're grav plates like what you'd find on the Primaris tanks. The way I imagine how they move is like how certain Mechs in Armored Core, strafing around some poor bastard laying into them dual wielding heavy bolters essentially or plasma cannons.

51:58 fun fact the "flight ski things" on incpetors and suppressors are actually anti-grav plates like the ones they use in primaris tanks that help to lift the monstrous weight of Gravis armor into the air.
I would love to see at the end a quick shot of 3~5 army ideas, meaning: ~2k army themed around sth, where we have this heroes who go with this, that many vehicles, this part does anti tank, that part is frontline, that unit is for stealing obj. Max few minutes per army, with all the models shown in the back. Like your meme army ideas but much quicker. Just to show how the end produckt will most likely look like. To give new people an idea, of what they are aimining for in army building.
1:05:40 I love how the ATV looks solely because I can hear the marines laughing as they fire the gun and hit the forward brother with thousands of casings
Brad did mention that his Black Templars hatred was somewhat exaggerated - he chose BT to comically hate, largely because it seemed BT fans are the most chill about being made fun of Edit: I believe he said this on a Q+A video
I like this format and look forward to seeing the other factions done. It’s nice to get a rundown of the battlefield roles for each unit. I decided to start Salamanders with this new job that I just got (decided 4 weeks ago before SM2 came out) And now I have a much better idea of what the units do and will now adjust my purchase plan accordingly.
I saw some kitbashes of the Desolation Squad weapons put onto Gravis bodies and it's actually pretty wild how much better it looks. Takes it from looking rather silly to looking pretty reasonable and badass. Super easy kitbash too.
Great idea for a vid. Thanks for doing this as there are many of my friends who are now wanting to get into yhe tabletop after eating all those blueberries after SM2. Trying to sell Chaos or, my favourite, Xenos is nothing compared to the power of the dress up powers SM2 has. I want a gundam Tau game in the SM2 engine!
I don't play the tabletop despite having been into 40k for over a decade but this guide has been really useful in helping me with how I customise my class appearance in space marine 2.
God damn, what a good episode. Sensible, educational, funny, got a good bit of the opinions in there so you don't feel too dry, and man as a Space Marine player I just love seeing all these models laid out one by one. They're so fucking cool. And this is a _much_ easier way to browse the catalogue and figure out what your next move is rather than using _anything_ Games Workshop has officially produced! I know sometimes I grouse and grumble on these episodes and complain about this thing or that thing, but then Brad goes off on how much he loves Gravis armor and Eric goes off about how much he loves Terminators and it really makes me sit back and think, you know, these two guys _are_ alright.
I can understand where y'all are coming from with the terminator chaplain, but I personally LOVE this model. With the shield and crozius I just get the feeling he is ANGRY and ready to SMASH which go well with my idea of terminators. They could use more chains, though (jewelers chains are a cheat code btw, get you some).
I just want to say that this is the EXACT kind of episode I've been waiting for! A nice little look through each model in a faction? I love it. Looking forward to more in the future, thank you guys so much for the work you do!
There is a generic Phobos LT, but currently hes locked in a combo box with the suppressors. Hes actually not bad, since he can scout, infiltrate, and deepstrike. Unlike the reiver LT. So the generic Phobos LT is better at leading reivers than the reiver LT T_T Had to kitbash mine and ended up with one very similar to the official one since I didnt want to get the phobos box that had him. Suppressors my beloved, I have 6 of them, I hope we get a multipart kit so i can field a full 9 of them one day
Was in the military, the actual military troop hauler is a super large pickup truck aka the 5Ton. You only need armor towards the enemy and with the bed you can stand up and shoot out of it like it’s rule suggest. It is weird you can’t target the bed in game… but having an open transport design is actually incredibly common, even helicopters tend to run door open so riders can support the door gunner and potentially the co-pilot/main gunners if need be with suppressive fire.
Is this going to be replacing the start collecting series like you did with Death Guard? I was hoping to see some form of start collecting for Thousand Sons as all I know now is NOT to buy the combat patrol.
No, this was a different series pilot attempt. We debated doing the Start Collecting Space Marine episode due to my co-worker's confusion, but we realized how awful it would be to try given the size of the SM range. Do we theme it as Gravis? Do we change theme every 500 points we grow? Do we spend any time adding a tank when there's going to be complaints we missed 50 different infantry choices in the final core 2K points? do we just try making it out of only boxed sets of marines? This series should work even on a Space Marine sized range (depending on how it's received.) The Start Collecting series will continue as well, and we may bounce between the two approaches based on our mood when it comes to each faction's range. Eventually doing both for everyone would be the final goal, then wrapping back and doing updated redo videos eventually. It'll be years before we ever cover every faction with either series anyhow, as we only do these faction intro episodes once every month or two.
I like this format. I generally enjoy seeing models that I never knew existed (like the guy with the awesome shield) and hear you guys ramble on about them 😁
As someone who built a Gladiator recently, actually magnetizing every single option would be a huge pain. On the other hand, if you just want to have every datasheet available and recognizable but don't care about being able to represent every wargear choice then you can do that with just friction fits or blu tack as long as you're careful when moving it.
The Rhino and the Land Raider are probably gonna stick around way longer than they have any right to solely because nearly every Imperium faction uses one or the other.
I think the Land Raider also scales well with Primaris sculpts, which isn't necessarily true for the Rhino. I'm betting the Rhino gets a refresh next edition, with a new, upscaled kit that can build a Predator or Rhino, while the Vindicator, Whirlwind, and Razorback are sent to Legends
One critical thing you missed is the company heroes box comes with a captain with multiple weapon options, so it's a good pickup to get a captain and an ancient. Also the phobos lieutenant was missed, he is in the Vanguard bundle box with suppressors if anyone wants him.
I appreciated the content and the effort that went into it. I would like to see this done, not just for the other armies in 40k, but in AoS as well. I am an oldhammer player who got out at the beginning of 5th ed, and a lot of stuff is new to me. While I enjoy exploring this stuff on my own (as I recently did with SM), it's definitely nice to have someone by your side having a discussion about them as well to help me catch up.
Watching this episode made want to go into Raptors and paint them in grey urban camouflage. A stealthy, mobile, more modern tactics look and gameplay feels very unique and cool to me.
See, this is exactly why the oldmarine Tactical Squad is the perfect kit, especially for beginners. You buy 1-5 of those and kit them out as you see fit; no need to sort through dozens of separate boxes with a name that ends with "-sor" or "-tor" that cost the same or more as the tac squad did but come with a maximum of five models instead of ten.

My friend just got me into this podcast series. I tracked down a Primaris Tech Marine and I have a pack of the Intercessor Primaris. I really want the fixed turret with the Primaris. Can’t wait to paint these guys up.
Oh I know I'm watching every episode of this series twice at some point. It's also really nice and fun to see some of Brad's genuine positive thoughts on an army he only ever shits on lol
Gonna show that to a friend! I think I would have liked small mentions for the chapters. Like "hey, these infernus marines, they are the core of most slamaders armies. look at this cool salamanders paintjob of 'em" Amazing episode besides that
I’m convinced the only reason we have infilitrators and incursors is because internally the decision for what the design for the primary primaris phobos marine infantry was made by a vote and they tied and nothing could break the tie so they were like “it’s space marines, people will buy both”
1:04:35 Having a jetbike and having a jetbike that can support the weight and mass of a 8 foot tall genetic freak in power armor are two entirely different things.
This video forced me to look at the Invictor Warsuit more than I ever thought I would and now I actually want one. Just kitbash the midsection to look more like a Dreadnought and it’s immediately super cool. Even without doing that it’s still neat, I like the idea of some Phobos guys getting set up ahead of the main battle group and then they drop these in from orbit once the fighting starts so your recon team becomes fire support.
With the large codex factions like SM and Eldar, this feels like it's been solely needed When asked by friends who I've brought into the hobby which space marines they should look at, I haven't been able to give them any direction other what what I've seen in the video games. I play nids and every time I look at a second faction to play (like the first half of this year since I'm not playing meta) I almost always found this to be the question I had to figure out with any more updated faction
I think talking about how the kits are sold is a really nice touch. You guys talk about how confusing it is in the episode so for new people it's nice to know. Also the hammerhead and devil fish for tau is the same as the impulsors for marines. Don't buy devil fishes

I'd love to see range overviews for every faction actually, even if i have no interest in playing, it's just interesting
Definitely a cool series, can't wait for you to cover all of xenos in one episode in about 45 minutes. ^_^
This coming out right after Auspex does the full guard line
Loved this! A series like this could be really good for players looking to start their next army
Please do continue this series! Very informative AND entertaining!
My friend just got me into this podcast series. I tracked down a Primaris Tech Marine and I have a pack of the Intercessor Primaris. I really want the fixed turret with the Primaris. Can’t wait to paint these guys up.
No other thumbnail has made me feel so sick, yet felt so right
I see the beginning of many many crossovers through this series
Oh I know I'm watching every episode of this series twice at some point. It's also really nice and fun to see some of Brad's genuine positive thoughts on an army he only ever shits on lol
Can’t wait for the review of each ranges models moving forward
Gonna show that to a friend! I think I would have liked small mentions for the chapters. Like "hey, these infernus marines, they are the core of most slamaders armies. look at this cool salamanders paintjob of 'em"
Amazing episode besides that
I’m convinced the only reason we have infilitrators and incursors is because internally the decision for what the design for the primary primaris phobos marine infantry was made by a vote and they tied and nothing could break the tie so they were like “it’s space marines, people will buy both”
28:00 If you take off the belt feed they actually look really good in my opinion
1:04:35 Having a jetbike and having a jetbike that can support the weight and mass of a 8 foot tall genetic freak in power armor are two entirely different things.
custodes have jetbikes that can support the weight and mass of a 9 foot tall genetic freak in power armor
@@brainstorm90 yeah but the custodes keep their shit secret because fuck everyone else they're not as cool
@@brainstorm90 like the other guy sais that means there's like at maximum 1 for each custode? Assuming they haven't be destroyed or lost to disrepair.
You should do Votann next! You can even make it a RUclips short for a bonus episode :D
With the large codex factions like SM and Eldar, this feels like it's been solely needed
When asked by friends who I've brought into the hobby which space marines they should look at, I haven't been able to give them any direction other what what I've seen in the video games.
I play nids and every time I look at a second faction to play (like the first half of this year since I'm not playing meta) I almost always found this to be the question I had to figure out with any more updated faction
This is exactly what I needed. Not too broad but not too specialized, a pretty perfect summary of the faction
The atv may look like a mcdonalds toy, but it could make a fun kitbash for a boomdakka snazzwagon
But then again a pike of plastic scraps could make any ork kitbash
Very much enjoyed this episode as someone getting into the hobby and would like to see the other factions done
Listen to me: desolation squad in Phobos armour.
Brad talking about slamming a helmet into the terminator librarian are the words of wisdom I live by. Painting faces is dumb.
I'm just waiting for the day of 5 heavy intercessors where they can all take heavy bolters......
I think talking about how the kits are sold is a really nice touch. You guys talk about how confusing it is in the episode so for new people it's nice to know.
Also the hammerhead and devil fish for tau is the same as the impulsors for marines. Don't buy devil fishes
Watching the oldmarine intro, I realized I forgot to thank you guys for the motivation that got me to buy, build, and paint my Vindicator. :)
Totally loving how you made a whole episode about space marines then in the first seven minutes explained how you wouldn't be talking about of the most famous models
I loved the Parks n Rec reference for the Repulsor Executioner. Very fitting too!
Both Gravis and Terminator look amazing.
GW simply showing off the new Terminators last summer brought me back into 40k and made me start a Space Marine army. No joke.
