Yeah, very strange instrument samples used, and the music is overall very hollow, sometimes ear-piercing and overall weaker than the chiptune NES (and GB) soundtrack/
There's actually a lot of really bad sounding SNES games (though they're mostly American developed ones; same applies to the Mega Drive: Good sounding Japanese games, terrible sounding American games)
While watching this longplay I got the idea for a Dr. Mario Match 3 where the board is filled with viruses, but only peppered with the occasional pill bits. Only two problems: A: Nintendo is deaf and doesn't take suggestions, no matter how helpful to the company they'd be. B: With the way they've just boarded the microtransaction train, they'd screw this up, _somehow_.
Christopher Sobieniak Figuring out a fair balance between combo chains and whatever the penalty is would be a challenge. Maybe you could squish the pills together to make two way clears?

Nintendo does what Super Nintendon't... At least, in terms of music and sound. Yeah, let's update all our 8-bit Mario games, and make them look fancy, but only if the music will sound like someone is squeegeeing the windows. Seriously, this sounds as bad as the worst music you'd find on a western-developed Genesis/Mega Drive game.
I don't agree about the music being bad in Super Mario All Stars, it's better in my opinion, but Dr. Mario SNES feels like it could have had better music.
