Hey Harlan, It's nice to see mollies getting some love. I think people get swept along in new things and forget how great these fish are. Algae control, a larger community fish, and live young... love em! Looking for a black lyretail male to get my own line started.
@@HarlanFord I love rainbowfish and the larger tetras, but mollies, swordtails, and guppies will always have room in my tank. If I was in Aus, I'd be an ambulatory bug feeding station getting every rainbowfish I could out of the bush! What fish would you keep if you were in the US?
I've noticed my fish being very stressed out in the breeding box... Bought it some time ago and yes... You get alot of babies but the mother will suffer. I know this is quite an effective way to get allot of fry but, If you really care about your fish and get strong fry... Just leave them in the tank. I got 5 generations of mollies now and i get weird colors! white with black spots, even brown! all comming from yellow and black mollies :D really enjoy to see my babies grow.
same with me but with platys :D I around 4-6 at the start and ended up with over 30 but half died due to a holiday incident but they are recovering, I even got a generation 5 translucent platy baby!
Hey, I have a pregnant dalmatian molly. She's definitely pregnant. I had her in a breeder box but after 2 days left her back into the main tank as I felt sorry for her. Any ideas, because if she gives birth in the main tank no way will the fry survive with the other fish. I have one of those square nets that hang on the inside. I could put her alone in that (more space). Like what are the chances that she'll eat every single one of her fry? If only I had an idea of how far long pregnant she is. Question 2, sorry ' the mop, is that just a floor cleaning mop? New of course.
Hey, yeah so that’s a tricky thing to know exactly how far along she is best bet is to put her in breeder fry box and wait till she drops. The mops are home made
Hi Harlan I see that this video is 10 months old, so, I'm not sure if I'll get a response, but, I'm going to try. I know this is about breeding mollies, but, what I need to know is how to STOP them from breeding. We've had black mollies in the padt & occasionally, we'd get babies & that was pretty cool. This time, however, we have them breeding constantly. I have 5 generations in my tank right now & there's just way too many fish in there. I really have no idea what to do at this point. The tank just can't handle the numbers. Is there any way to stop this?
@@Dd3viant How do you tell the difference between a male & a female? As of yesterday, it looks like there is a new batch. I have to have several females in there. The births are really close together.
@@HarlanFord Thanks Harlan!! That link is very helpful. I'm going to try to figure it out, but, I don't know how I'm going to seperate them. I'm asking everyone I know if they want some mollies. Lol So far, only 1 taker, but, with the link you sent, I might be able to split up a few males from females when I bring her some. Some of the kids are actually different colors, kind of like a dark dalmatian & some that are all black have gold on the end of their tails. The parents of all of them are all black, so, not sure what's going on there.
Hi so this video is about a year old but how would I know when she will give birth? Mine has had a very squared off belly for 3 days and she hasn't given birth-The male is chasing her a lot and she is eating lots so when should she pop?
Mmmm hard to say, I even ask myself this from time to time, best advice from me is just to wait if she’s pregnant she’ll drop eventually. I would just stick her in a reasonably sized breeder box so the male doesn’t stress her to much, plus you’ll be able to have all the babies in one spot. But depending on what you want you can also leave her and add a ton of retreats/hiding places for babies and mother.
Good morning. It will probably be different for everyone, the time you have her in there for will vary from a day to several days depending on how pregnant she is. She has had up to 50 at a time, tho this will also vary depending on your female.

Thankyou so much ! I was feeding lots of baby brine shrimp tropical flakes tetra colour granules and other smaller pellet foods. Such a fun fish to breed!
@@HarlanFord That's the same thing I feed all my fish the molly's Cory catfish, danios, along with tubifex worms my Albino Cory breed all the time like none stop.
I ended up with 3 females I think, so I don't have to worry too much about them having fry which I'm fine with, I might pick up another 3 in a few wks & hope to get all females, I have them in a 75 gal so that should be good enough for 6-12 mollies, I'm not really wanting to breed them for profit.

I have heard that if we make a outdoor pond we can them breed easily
Yeah for sure! Only thing would be if your located in a cold climate. Other than that yeah should do great!
Like in monsoon seasons??
@@poornimasv939 not necessarily monsoon seasons just make sure the water doesn’t get to cold or to hot

Separate the males and females?

Do you just keep all males and females together? WOnt they auto breed in that tank itself?
How long did you leave her in the breeding tub for before she gave birth? How many did she have
