    Pay attention to how much he talks about power, he doesn’t really emphasize whether it is correct or virtuous or principled not. He emphasizes that you need to organize so that you can consolidate power, ( or leverage) so that you can apply pressure. It’s an eloquent way of saying if you wanna shake someone down, you need to be unified and you need to keep constant pressure until they give in.

      That's not what he's saying. He's talking about the power of the people. He's talking about democracy. In his book Rules For Radicals, he does talk about the things you mention.

    Revolutionaries are addicted to their ideologies, power, and war. Sometimes a revolt is needed I suppose, The American Revolution for example, but career activists like Alinsky are terrifying. Smart, organized, articulate, intelligent, and relentless. You can clearly see the intersectionality and identity perspectives in his thinking.

      @Personal info Yes, some left-wing parties are followers of Alinski. They finance radical actions to impose Islamic ways of life, to encourage immigration from the Maghreb and Africa. Currently, there are actions to impose the burkini (Islamic swimsuit) in swimming pools. These people have all read Saul Alinski's books.
      I fought with a migrant who brandished a knife last week. It could have been my daughter, the victim. France is shipwrecked.

    • @brachiator1
      @brachiator1 2 года назад

      I think that Alinsky did criticize China and North Korea and, unlike some radicals of that time, noted that there was far more freedom in the US than in communist countries. And don't forget that a city state like Singapore would impose harsh penalties for trivial offenses like spitting chewing gum onto the street. And in the 60s and early 70s, South Korea was more repressive than it is today. Still, his judgment about the non communist Asian nations was too glib and he died long before China took back control of Hong Kong, and it is tragic how mainland China is strangling democracy in Hong Kong and never let it develop in any area under its control.

    • @brianarbenz1329
      @brianarbenz1329 Год назад +1

      Hong Kong residents could not vote for their own Governor General. That person was appointed by the United Kingdom. All decisions were made by London. Who would define that as a democracy?
      It is true that HK was not a totalitarian state in the model of the People's Republic, but it was an autocracy. Alinsky did not accuse it of being totalitarian, but a dictatorship.

Alinsky indeed was a mentor to generations of activists and someone the (formerly democratic) right wing in the US abhorred - mostly because like Ralph Nader his analysis was bang on, and he was incredibly effective when he was right.
