Greetings from Spain, Zerko. Let me deeply THANK you for your job. I'd love to see an in depth layout of defensive playstyles, like dwarves. F.e. how to set up your front line so your guns can still shoot effectively, since flanking with dwarves isn't really a thing. But still stop the enemy cav from leaking through those holes, etc. :)
I personally put my most defensive unit 2x along with lord uptop and down on the flanks is cheaper/mid tier infantry. Which leaves a big hole between center and flank. Extremely good for melting enemy infantry from sides with guns or flame throwers. Something like this: = + = === * * * === The stars are flamers and ranged unit. Make sure not to leave big gap or enemy will close in on your troops and ruin your entire formation.
Bugmans rangers on Flank with slayers behind. Bugmans have Charge Def vs large and stealth..so cav wont know whats happened. Charles slayers in,pull Bugmans back through slayers and dead cav
From my experience, when grouped, they move in formation, not just at the same speed. The formation they were in when you locked it, so relock if you make changes to where they stand. And when you tell the locked group to attack, they attack what's in front of their position in the formation. But if you select units individually instead of the whole group, they'll target what you tell them to specifically.
I know it sucks having to redo guides and tactics for each faction with each new patch/change, but having short-ish and sweet videos with each update would be AMAZING! Plus, more content.
6:10 i use unlocked group for cav and fliers but locked for main army and then after they engage i click on them individually or with dragging. Works for me! you might try unlocked if you wanna quickly zoom to your cav on the other side of the map and order them all to go back to the main party

I bought the TWW games a few weeks ago, and it's already become the biggest time sink in my spare time, partly due to your videos. They are great both educationally and for entertainment, and have helped a ton of getting into the games. You have a really good commentary voice. Articulate, interesting, and well balanced between hard info and jokes. Thanks for making these! Now, since I started playing just after the Immortal Empires patch, I am wondering how much of the information from your W1& W2 videos is still reliable? I am guessing most of the information remains the same, but with some small balance changes to various units? Perhaps some veterans in the comments can help with this?
It's highly specific. Usually the more DLCs a faction has got the less likely it is that the information is sti up to date. Factions that got introduced in a DLC are relatively stable (at least more than base game factions). From the top of my head I would say that Dwarfs, Empire and LM probably changed the least. Usually if you have such specific questions joining his discord is the best call. There are many nice people there willing to answer them.
So i have a tactic I've learned from rome 2 I've learned where you build a inverted u and have calvary on both flanks to counter flanking then I force you to clash my line and you have to tie up all my units or my line unfolds and wraps you as shock cav hammers you in the rear is that seen as a noobie tactic
The video i was aneed. Everytime i bring some cavalry i forget about it, i forget to move it, i move it too late, too early, i moove it in the wrong place.... And when i realize i panic and i loose control of the frontline
@@theunfortunategeneral during a campaign i fought the same battle 5 times. At the 5th i had a chance to win and almost wasted it because my thane lord was chasing of some skavenslaves outside of the walls of my city while the survivor of my army were dying. Fortunatly i brought him back! He was blowing up by some artillery in the distance. What hell of a match
Try and put your armies on auto guard mode. Go into settings and you can have it apply to all your units from the start. Same with skirmish mode for ranged. If all your army is defensive such as the dwarves they should be in guard mode anyway so they never chase down units. They are too slow to catch anything anyway. The ranged units for the dwarves are their key to victory.
Also with the new alliance system you can get your Ally’s units. Such as cav. Team up with any empire faction and build an embassy in their capital and you can get cav as the dwarfs or any other the empires units such as rockets and steam tanks. It’ll help free up your slow hero’s and front line to just sit and tank the damage while they swing way around to take out and distract the enemies artillery
Maybe a tiny bit. Honestly running isn't that big of a drain, especially in the context of single player. Pessimistically, running that extra bit is like, another second or two per bracket of exhaustion.
i got the problem with factions like skaven. I dont know how to get the enemy cavalery away from my ranged units like ratling gunners because i got a lot of ranged untis and they cant fight alone against melee
I love playing skaven, mainly ikit claw do my main armies are loaded with ranged. I typically have 4 jezzals, 6 infantry (usually 3 sword and 3 anti large) 3 artillery, 2 ratling guns, 2 doom wheels, the lord, a hero to counter the lord (ie a chieftain if I have a wizard), then the last spot is usually a monster or anothet hero. No army is perfect so it'll take time to get what works best for you. I play skaven very defensively so my infantry takes the brunt of damage so my infantry is laid out like a trapezoid with ranged inside. Basically put like 4 infantry up front and then 1 or 2 on each arm. If I do need to defend my cav is the unit to intercept the enemy cav, or a tankier hero.
Ratling gunners can often get away with just shooting approaching cavalry because they do so much damage. Failing that though, having ranged or artillery in an army is an inherent risk/reward situation that you just have to live with, you are sacrificing manoeuvrability for more offence. You probably want every two missile units to have a guard of at least one melee capable unit that is kept back to protect the flank until you can be sure your missiles are safe. Unless you're playing a faction like Kislev or Dwarves who's missile units are decent in a melee then you need more melee. For the Skaven, Skavenslaves actually make pretty good flank protection. You can just place them by your ratlings and forget about them, they won't be wasted sitting around since they don't do much damage anyway, you can freely shoot them in the back and not care and they're cheap as hell.
Plenty of options, depending on your army and the enemy's. Focus firing their cavalry with multiple units. Using Skavenslave guards to block the charge. Skaven have lots of summons- Menace Below, Packmaster rats, Plague Priest summons... save some uses to screen. Fliers are hard to block, but melt with focus fire on approach.

One fun tactics is to delay one side of your army to create a defensive front while hitting hard on the other side.
