I’m a bit of a fin aholic. This is exactly the information I like. Great content as usual Ben.
Interesting stuff! As I've discovered, a well designed and manufactured Fin makes a big difference.
Good to hear about fins. I'm a big time Z-fins enthusiast though!
Would not call it a barnfind but what a gem Ben. Intresting..🤙
great interview, i will absolutely check out the range , new technology to fins are fun!
Hi Ben,
great video again. I'm a hobby surfer, but a pretty technical one. I have always a another fin for a different board and sail size.
After years with G10 fins I need to say that carbon fins, also cheaper ones, are performing better than the G10. Of course a bad carbon one might be worse than a good G10 one.
I'm very happy since I bought a carbon slalom fin for my JP FSW 94 for low wind freerace conditions. I don't need to think about the fin. Just take the 6,4er Sail, the FSW and the fin and go for it.
Jochen
Yep, i want to buy and try the 38 race. At the local spot, the race fins work better than the slalom fins as you need alot of upwind drive to get back each reach from speed runs.
So cool
Different foils suit different Windsurfers abilities and ones actions about to be performed.
As you say, for everyday sailor - 99% of the weekend racers and 100% of the free riders, off the shelf fins will do. When you compete, then you are constantly looking for better performance. By the way, new carbon fins are too expensive.
no foil 👍
Not fair to test just one fin, let's have a test of the Great British F Hot fin alongside it, I'm sure Steve Cook would oblige!
Well I obviously have other fins to test against. As you need a control 👍🏻
Im gonna be honest. I'll buy myself really good carbon fin only after I'll buy really good carbon boom. I know it's important, i just won't feel it unless its the bottleneck
My spot is Podersdorf on Neusiedler See. The water is shallow and brown. Put your hand slightly under the surface and you cannot see it. Not the best place to use a EUR 400 fin.....
Hi Luke, that’s exactly why we developed a G10 version with the closest character to the carbon models as we could!
Where can i find that fin size chart? i could find on his page
We will add it on the website shortly!
@@russellbrice64okey good news
Same strength in all directions doesn't mean stronger ... but ... hey. "Forged" just a simpler way of moulding a carbon plug to top a directional layered fin, whether fibre or carbon.
Actually it’s really not a gimmick. You get fibers in x,y,z directions in the same resin matrix, rather than several layers in x&y, which then only gets strength in the z direction based on the resin matrix, and not from the fibers.
@@russellbrice64 Only one thing wrong with that though. Resin has no matrix ...
Woven fibre has directional strength - it's why they weave it - fibres on themselves being stuck together by resin has NO directional strength other than the strength of the resin holding it together (plus a tiny bit because it's present in the mix).
Ever tried breaking off a flat slab of fibres stuck together by resin ? It breaks easily. AS easily as if there were no fibres. Its just a resin slab.
NOW: try breaking a resin impregnated woven fibre slab ... You may put a crack in it, but it won't break.
See ! LOL.
