Me and my husband are starting ours tomorrow and I’m so excited that I can’t even go to sleep. Just pray we don’t throat punch each other during the process lol Beautiful pond! I’ll be showing this to my husband hoping he tries to outdo you!
I am 58 and bought that same pond from Facebook marketplace because of this video. I always wanted pond! That was beautiful. And good for you for thinking of those future children!!
Finally someone actually building a budget friendly and pretty easy to do small pond! I click on so many supposedly easy diy pond videos and they aren’t but this is exactly what I was wanting to do
Learn from my mistake & avoid goldfish if you’re going to stick with the budget filtration as they have an extremely high bio load & will sludge up your filter constantly & check out “golden white cloud minnows” as a stocking option. A small active fish that are really bright when viewed from the top.
Small preformed Ponds are great to start with even whiskey barrel ones great for waterplants and carnivorous plants . Also small Ponds without fish are great
I used goldfish in a small pond without a filter only a pump running out a big piece of driftwood but I made sure to put crawfish and snails and any smaller bottom feeders that I found not only did my pond stay clean but my fish thrived for years before I moved
I discovered my passion for gardening last year, along with a newfound appreciation for the appearance of my landscape. As I look to expand my outdoor oasis, constructing a pond is an exciting prospect that I am eager to pursue. This video has been immensely helpful in guiding me towards achieving my goal, and I am truly grateful for the valuable insight it has provided.
Came across this looking for ideas for my own garden pond and OMG. One of my fav videos. Made me laugh cuz I've actually dug up SOO many rocks / boulders at my house too that I plan to use. Thank you for posting.
I had this exact prefab pond, along with putting stone in there i used a solar fountain pump with no filtration, just to circulate water. I also put bog plants in the shallow section and added hornwort , once it conditioned for some weeks, I added some glass shrimp an later some speckeled mollies. Once a year Id add a little barley straw. That water was crystal clear and a few years later I found freshwater sponge growing in there which was amazing. Dragonfly would come by and lay eggs an then I had dragonfly nymphs, it was the coolest little pond, then Harvey came and flood waters basically cleaned it out😢
Ok 😮 this is the best pond build I’ve seen, forget that it’s on a budget. Man you really nailed it and brought that vision home. I need to finally try this myself, been looking for inspiration and this, is, it!
I really enjoyed watching this one more than the others that had 3 people working on the ponds, this was more like reality. I have to do this myself and after watching, I know I can proceed with my project. Thanks!!
Hola! 🖐Nice little project, I really like that pond. What I especially enjoy is how you have an assortment of "goodies" you have collected over time. That's what Grammy (my wife) and I like to do. Find random objects at random times in random places and then repurpose. Good luck on your future projects. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
It turned out great. You got SUPER LUCKY with the rocks and especially that pot!! If you bought that at a store it would cost 75-150+dollars! All and all to purchase your entire set up, it would cost the average jo who's buying it all around 300+ bucks (including plants) I have a pond as well. One thing I've learned, people ALWAYS want it bugger when its all said and done! I was one of these people, so what I did was keep my existing pond in the ground, went and bought the HUGE liner at Lowes (75 bucks! 🥶) But, this way I could go as deep and shape it however I liked. I want to say the liner was 20×50 It may be larger, I can't remember it's exact footage. But, I left a walkway between the two so it looks like it's one giant pond, but it's really two, you have to get more filters, but it's so worth it. If you have neighbors, it drowns out all the noise and makes your yard feel isolated and private❤ And just so enjoyable. It looks great! Love your enthusiasm 💙💙
Your awesome young man love the rocks so lucky cud u come to nz in rotorua an build me a pond im 68 yrs old my name is kk an i do all the gardening myself an it always gets flooded been heavy rain for 9 months in an off were probably have a mild winter an lots rain turning our city in a tropical town i have put aside 500$ an wow youve done an awesome job mate awesome my backyard will be a fairyland,.. Lol bye for now
You did exactly what I was going to do I had just started working on my pond today It looks basically the same as yours even got a big pot I saw this video recommended to me and I'm like hey that's what I'm doing 😂 although I am doing it differently I have a solar water pump a different style pre-made pond and a different color of pot
This was only on a budget because you got so many free things. You couldn't build that nice of a pond without a hearty investment. Your dogs are adorable.
Definitely enjoyed the video. I can understand the excitement of building everything from scratch and to see the final result was just amazing. Love how the pond is looking and your dogs were a joy to watch too 😂
I’m definitely saving this video! I’ve been trying too figure out a way to have cattails in my yard, and this is it! Just a reminder, a child can drown in a five gallon bucket or less. I love your enthusiasm, it’s contagious. 👍🌸
Nicely done !!!! We had a 5000 gallon pond much like this at our old property. Hint on filtration if you add fish, I used a sheet of quilting filler cloth (cut in correct size pieces) and lifted it out every week and rinsed it off - easy. Caught a lot alot of the green algae.
Your pond looks great but I have a couple pieces of advice in regards to the pump placement. You have it too close to your waterfall. You want to maximize good circulation and Ideally you want your pump/suction line to be as far away from the waterfall/return as possible. Also it's better for the pump to be near the bottom in case there is water loss (evaporation/leaks etc) that way it doesn't run dry and burn up if not caught in time.
Bad advice, if you develop a leak in the line you will have dead fish... it's a hard balance, best filtration or better survivability. Far from the falls, absolutely, I'd say leave at least 1 foot above the bottom personally. Add a top skimmer, and a swirl filter, then a stronger mechanical filter, then a bio filter, finally route it all to the waterfall.
I say keep the pump middle of the pond not on the bottom. In case something happens and water starts to leak. It wont pump all the water out, and leave you with dried fish.
You did great! Plants I've had success with in my pond are Water Hyacinths and Water Lettuce. They spread. You may get algae turning the pond green. Algaefix works well against that. I put Platy fish in mine. They're live breeders and with provide you with some little ones. 🙂
13 years ago we bought a 170 gallon pre formed pond. We dug a hole for the bottom part like you did and the top part we did brick wall with pavers ( lots of measuring and knocking out parts of pavers to fit ( formal pond like) and then built up for a water fall with brick pavers for a 12 gallon drop preformed for the water fall, hooked up the hose through the brick pavers. We have a submersible pump and fountain kit in the 170 gallon pond and the water fall providers oxygenation and Iris is planted up top
You made this look easy enough for me to do! I made two recirculating fountains last year with underground containers. I have wanted a pond but didn't think it was something I could do. Thanks for sharing!
Love the finished product. The plants growing out between the rocks is a really nice look. You are absolutely right, the bricks looked terrible! The mountain looks so much better.
Absolutely love that you're thinking ahead for the safety of your future children!!!! I'd like to echo that by saying please teach the children how to swim at a very young age..... unfortunately a small child can still drown in a small pond or even a bucket. Job well done
Really nice job on the budget pond. I would suggest a pond plant to keep it clear and someway for frogs and lizards to get out and a place for the birds to enjoy. It's always so sad seeing dead frogs or lizards floating because they didn't have a way to get out. Good job!
Brilliant. Was looking for the right video to show my husband exactly what I wanted. Not only has this video done just that, it also shows us the best way to get it done. Thank you. Thank you so much. Btw, Ranger is beautiful and his curiosity is adorable. All the way from Australia.
Dude, when you said that one plant was lemony-green “like a popshicle in the shummertime” I thought I was gonna die laughing! 😂 You made me roll my eyes and laugh too many times! 🤣You’re hilarious! I appreciate your willingness to try all of this stuff and to give feedback on whatever your experience comes out to be. I’m also going to try my best to grow wildflowers that will attract all these pollinators, but I really hope to attract lots of butterflies & hummingbirds! 👍🏻😊
I had started growing when the pandemic hit also but I didn’t have a yard I used plastic totes growing off my second floor apartment at the time. I had cucumbers plants touching the ground from my second floor porch down to to ground full of cucumbers! Grew every you can imagine loved it do it till this day. Wowwwwww!!!! You just inspired me to do this in my backyard!!! Im so excited to do this! I have a dope lil theme in mind. Thank you for the idea & inspiration! Your pond looks absolutely amazing! Great job!
Hello you make me happy watching you. My first pond about 15 years ago was a little one know one of mine Is 30.000 gallon I bet you will make a bigger one eventually. OK I'm not a know it all but. Here I go. The big flower pot you had would have been good enough for your water falls. But for a small pond you could have went to the dollar store and bought a noodle strainer and set it in the pot and put some kind of medea/ sponge and put some lava rock on media.and just put the hose in the back of the big pot just like you did and made the water poor into your noodle strainer and there is a great filter for a buck and saved the twenty some dollars that you paid for that pond waterfall/where they call them. And that water running outaf your pot fallow the waves to the end of the little pond. That is where your little pump should be placed. Not close to where the water is returning. But for someone that is watching your video and they want to put a pond in on a budget. I would say your video is about the best I have seen on here. Just don't overload it with a lot of fish. Oh and get a pair of panty hose and start with cutting just enough to wrap around your pump and just watch if the water slows down take old pantyhose off and put another one on. Know that old pantyhose wrap becomes like a pre filter. I give you a 99.9 on your little diy pond.
That looks amazing. I love you're supervisor too. Just in the middle of upgrading my pond so I'll be definitely saving this for some great ideas. Thank you for sharing this, I enjoyed watching.
I love how dogs are always like, _watcha doin? watcha doin?_ and they're all happy and try to 'help.'
Me and my husband are starting ours tomorrow and I’m so excited that I can’t even go to sleep. Just pray we don’t throat punch each other during the process lol
Beautiful pond! I’ll be showing this to my husband hoping he tries to outdo you!
I am 58 and bought that same pond from Facebook marketplace because of this video. I always wanted pond! That was beautiful. And good for you for thinking of those future children!!
This is what people want to watch, the real DIY rather then buy all the expensive stuff from the mall. Thanks for bringing back the original RUclips
I love how the dogs helped with every aspect of the build

Those stones along the edge were a really nice touch!
Thank you homie
@@paulplantu AWESOME JOB I love the big plant pot
as a waterfall, you lucked out with the stones & rocks 👍

I clicked on this because it looks like he gardens AND raps. And now I'm subscribed.

it nice to real life builds on a budget because most people live on the average income this is nice 👌
Idk but this video overall made me feel happy. Pond look absolutely phenomenal
I love that you are mindful of your dogs and this is absolutely amazing! Great work on a budget! A pond doesn't have to cost thousands of dollars!

Funny you mention "natural" like he did in the description but then shows off the big piece of plastic.
Not even kidding I have been waiting for you to make a pond since you created this channel.
I’m so excited to watch it
Mind that gorgeous dog's paws. He obviously wants to help with the digging. Nice.
Love the pond, and how good it came out. That huge pot is perfect! Watching the dogs was fun too!
Why is this my new favorite channel. You killing it Paul!
Never saw such epic digging.
I like how you're just going w/the flow (pond pun). I myself am doing a pond on a budget, thanks for the inspiration
Just watched this in the UK, I totally love your enthusiasm and your dog's supervision made me laugh too, great job dude!!
