The Boss DS1X... WILL IT CHUG? Also have a great monday
Hi ola
You too Ola =D
Ola Englund have a great Monday! 🤘🏽
hug from Portugal🤘🖤
thanks a lot. i thank you for bringing me thru the quarantine
Probably the best distortion I've heard from a pedal straight into the clean channel.
indeed!
Yeah, in my whole life...I wish my old Marshal MG10 had fx loop, I would have made it chug enough
Yeah it’s pretty killer
That 5150 has better distortion by itself so what`s the point?
@@mikkolevomaki8618 maybe for someone playing into a Fender amp who wants what option for more distortion? Or what about going into an amp that doesn't have an effects loop so you can't go straight into the power amp?
2:14 Chugged so much that it cut the camera signal out
singularity chug mode activated
And began affecting the lights in the neighborhood...
Well Said!
Turns on subtitles*
"today were trying a guitar pill to see, will hit jug"
Turns off subtitles*
At 1:26 subtitles: "it sucks" lol
It said “jog” here. 😂
“Will it charge”
“So if you’re new to this segment and you don’t know what a truck is..”
Kyle LeDrew yeah subtitles on my own videos make me laugh!
It has vintage Verdi speakers!
God damn this thing puts most "metal" pedals to shame in the chug category
Yeah because the gain is just the right amount and the EQ is not so sweeping.
@@kylegoodman5196 I assume your referencing the metalzone in your passive aggressive diss there!? For starters the gain and eq frequencies are knobs or dials and can be adjusted accordingly to what you want, maybe you just don't know how to use em properly and that is the real problem!? Metalzone is the sickest and always has been, until all you idiots came along spreading ya internet myths and fairytales. Some of the shit I hear being said as g0spel, is in reality the most ridiculous and obviously uneducated shit I've ever heard in my life. We have this new 'information super highway' known otherwise as the internet and yet people are getting dumber and dumber every day it seems!? Only mankind is so good at evolving backwards!!!
@@jeremyrobertson7267 Okay first of all...
I own a Metal Zone, currently an MT2W Waza Metal Zone, and love it. But I completely think the EQ on it is almost too aggressive. Its way too easy to make a Metal Zone sound bad, where I feel like this pedal sounds better with all its knobs ar 12 o'clock than the Metal Zone does.
If anything my comment was more aimed at the Mxr Fullbore than the Metal Zone.
@@jeremyrobertson7267 "passive aggressive diss" This is a fucking general statement about why the pedal is good. How do you read that and instantly think that it's a metal zone diss? Pretty sure you're the one who's "evolving backwards."
@@jeremyrobertson7267 Jesus.. 🙄
2:14 so much gain that light cannot compete!
BOSS DS1X pedals doubling in price everywhere
I got my behringer Vamp 2 the WEEK before he did that pedal !!! Scored it for $50 ( USD ) , watched it here for free !!! Didn't check if they went up much higher But I'm guessing they probably did seeing as there weren't that many available to begin with . The ENGL clone-tone on that pedal is CHUG-NIFICENT !
Not Amazon apparently.
This pedal is available everywhere.
For anyone want something lighter the da2 is good too.
Heck i use those for ages in my indie stoner crap
Every time he's in drop C it sounds like he's about to play the SMG studio intro.
Song is called The Eagle Has Landed
Me, I first think about Unnamed feeling.
Drop D is enough to chug
at this point, we can conclude that everything from Boss indeed chugs
I want to see Ola getting Chugs from a Digital Reverb xD
I agree. My Chromatic Tuner chugs.
@@orphanuprising lmao
He even made a metalzone sound good xD
TU-3
I already have this pedal for about a year!
One of the best buys I ever did! Instant chug in a box!
The thing that most impresses me is, that you can play any chord on it and you will hear every note! and yes, even with crazy jazz chords
High gain ?
@@Brad143 verry 😁
@@Alien-qw5ks tq 😁
I'd use the pedal over the actual 5150 dirty channel
Man, this pedal is way more metal than the majority of most "Metal" pedals out on the market. Nicely done Ola! Keep up the good work.
4:27 Best chug I've heard on this series so far
I always love when Ola plays something and listens; he always makes an expression like he wasn't expecting to hear what he's hearing. Like "Wait a minute... "
Sometimes I like to hear it from the camera mic too. Maybe thats just me...
He mixes a tad bit of room mic in with the cab mic to get that tone.. Not really a camera mic but its not all cab mic.
Ola: I haven´t changed the strings on this guitar from since a year.
Glenn Fricker: *Triggered sound Engineer noises
*Shouting at the camera intensifies*
@fjf sjdnx me too
I use fat strings on my 8; I willl likely never have to change strings again unless they corrode to hell....or unless the truss rod bends and the neck snaps.
lol....I have really fat strings on my D-standard Ibby guitar...I haven't changed them in nearly two years. I wipe them with an alcohol-soaked rag about once a month, but that's about it.
jeez my strings have been on my guitar about twenty years apart from the high e, it snapped about 20 years ago and couldn't be arsed replacing it
Ola: Will it Chug?
Me: Where the Budweisers at?
That sounds really good, seems like its already a tight distortion without the need for a boost. The 5150's power amp section and the Fortin cab really brings it all together..
Killer! This thing sounds way better than I remember. There go all of the Boss pedals.
Wow that sounds good even through my cellphone speaker!
This is just tooo BEASTY, I had to share this on my FacebookPage
I'm surprised at how nice that clean tone sounds from the 5150.
Can you do a segment on how to set up like recording or some sort of home studio?
he’s already done it just search the channel
I'll save you some time. Scarlett 2i2 usb recording interface. Sm57 and a small stand. A quiet room. A laptop. Then whatever audio interface you wanna use. I use audacity which is free. Sometimes I dont even pull out the scarlet and sm57. I have a 50 dollar ATR usb mic that I sometimes use straight from usb to laptop to record demos when I get an idea for a song
@@abraham1O2 *whatever DAW you want to use.
I don't mean to be that guy. Just wanted to save OP any possible confusion. And yes, great recommendations.
guitar -> audio interface -> Reaper with free amp sim and IR loader with free IRs. This is the easiest and cheapest route.
One of the best tones on Will it Chug yet! Great to see this combo. That cab also helps, it’s sick! 👍
Discovered something that totally surprised me about this pedal. It loves single coil pickups! This pedal pushing a clean fender style amp with a single coil neck pickup is hard to beat in my opinion.
2:48 sick ass riff
I always thought that pedal sounded like ass.
Now i'm really looking forward to trying it out. Really good sound!
It has amazing clarity by design, if you prefer any kind of muddiness it is definitely not worth the great expense.
Also keep in mind this is the X version
That riff at 3 mins should be riff of the day pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
*Request:*
Will It Chug: Dunlop Fuzz Face Germanium
This pedal would probably work really well for that Spawn of Possession tone where it's tight and not overly gain-y. Still chugs amazingly too.
I have one. Love the sound. Also have the OD-1X .Equally good. Multi-dimensional sound processing thing actually works.
The little tune you play on every clean channel is so sick. Really pearl jammy lol
I sold my boss pedals when i was short on cash and need to start buying them back. this reminds me of the mega distortion i had.
I still my have my Boss Mega Distortion, the first pedal I ever bought, 15 years ago. The thing has kind of a narrow range of usable EQ but once you dial it in right it sounds killer. I remember back in the day being jealous of my friend who had a DS-1 though cos he got it after I got the mega distortion and I thought the DS1 sounded better. But I was juet a beginner, I didn't know how to dial in good tones and all that
I've been searching for a distortion pedal and you've sold me on this one. Love your videos
Did you buy it and are you still happy with it?
@@Pat78 I did buy it and tbh, the metal zone is still so much better. I would recommend the metal zone over any other Boss distortion pedal.
This pedal never leaves my board. Believe me- I tried to find something close, a little different but there's something that makes this OD pedal a lot louder than the others . The distortion is something all it's own
i haven't even reache 0:10 and i'm already lovin'it.. thanks for uploading so frequently! you are making my not so bad qwaranteen a better moment!
I bought this pedal after watching this video. It has the ideal sound qualities for what I want to record. I'll be putting my pedal into a Marshall JVM410 instead though running into a Two notes Torpedo Live, so, that'll be interesting to see if the tone will be darker or not because of the Marshall. Cheers Ola, great video demo, really helpful.
Hi Ola!
I just bought it because of your video. Thank you!
Your channel is great!
We just need an Ola pedal man. If anyone can provide the ultimate chug master. Well it’s you man.
That’s the sound of so many 90s hardcore records. Very nice
I have it,and i played also with boutique pedals but ds1x has really something special,is killer sounding right out of the box and tweaking makes it sound even better!!
I will say this was the least "Ola Tone" sounding pedal you've played so far.
this video made me get one cause it sounds tight, modern, but unique. Really crisp sounding, too. I love the mid-highs on this
I don’t play metal, but even to me this is the definitive distortion pedal. I own it and use it with less gain, but even then there is not a better distortion pedal for me. It’s awesome 👍🏻👊🏻
I really like what you are playing around 3 minutes in to this video! Also, what an absolutely perfect color for a guitar! Thank you for being Ola!
"Ola Instant CHUG Award" for BOSS =)
so i've tried that pedal with other amps and it doesn't chug thru all of them. The voicing of the clean channel you're putting it thru makes a huge difference. Through something like a fendery clean it has a rounder and less focused bottom end. Still useful and great for that singing lead tone. this 5150 though, it just WANTS to chug.
Yes. I have DS-1X and on my Fender Blues Deville 410 it doesn't sound very close to this. Amp can make or brake distortion pedal
Imagine if there is a flop of this series, where Ola forgot to turn on pedal
One time he forgot to turn the volume up so the signal cut out as soon as he turned the pedal on
That sounds great! I have never found a distortion pedal I like but this sounds really good :)
Check out the Danelectro FAB Metal pedal!! Please!!
I've been using this pedal for a few years, love it!
Ola's SUDDEN DEATH BURP CHUGS: always a crack up. 4:28 both E quickly going to drop BEEEE through brief drop D - dB counter went BURPSERK. SUBSCRIBED because of this.
Well... that was quick!!!
Can you try plugging your mic to DS1X and let's hear the comparison of your voice sample from 5:50 if it will chug?
Most underrated pedal. Exactly what it sounds like. I run my jube on clean, master on 8, hit it with the ds1x. Best tight singing, smooth lead sound with tons of valve harmonics.
Od1x is excellent also, tons of boost for the Jubes gain channel. Both tighten up the sound perfectly.
About underrated pedals.. Boss ODB3 Bass Overdrive has a bad reputation but IME is an excellent bass overdrive pedal if you know what are you doing with the knobs.. (specially with the gain anb blend).
Can someone post a link to the ones that didn’t chug? I’d like to see a best of and worst of video to cover the series of will it chug.
I love how you can still make a tone that sounds heavy as balls without cranking the gain knob
5:53 wow - that's sick riff, anyone knows the song? (Yeah, I know, Darude - Sandstorm)
I think its Darude - Sandstorm
Feared- The narcissist
Darude - Sandstorm
xxDDDD
@@mind_flutter Thanks man! 🙂
Ola is a man on a mission. The mission to make it chugg!
Boss for the win! Also - damned cool to see your studio setup!
It seems to chug with great clarity👍
I have the compressor from this line and it's amazing. I'm sure this pedal is great too
Hey Ola! Long time viewer here. Quick question, will you ever do a "will it chug" with the EHX Metal Muff as a preamp? Much Love. Cheers!
Nice to see the old "devil in white" riff brought out of the bag. Love that riff, love that song
Man, that thing has a massive sound!!
I love the way that boss petal sounds .....
That Fortin cab actually sounds quite monstrous 🤘🏼
definitely sir.
My fav ola englund Will it Chug episode
3:27 made me think of DISSECTION for some reason !
Righton, Ola! A DS1 in front of a Marshall was one of the old school recipes for high gain. I picked up an old beat up DS1 awhile back for that reason. It makes my Vintage/Modern more gooder.
I can attest Ds-1 + a Marshall slays.
In my opinion thats the best chugging piece of gear in the history of the series
Boss OD-1x and DS-1x so far are the best overdrive/distortion pedals. If you are big fan of Boss, get either one of them and a DD-3 you are good for live show.
Hey, thank you for doing a pedal review with absolutely nothing else influencing the tone! I keep seeing people adding reverb and other stuff, and that's not helping me tell what the pedal itself sounds like.
Best chugs I've heard since weeks.. This pedal is amazing.
There's a version of this and boss da2 in gt1000 called x-dist and a-dist
Actually i really like using those into natural amp rather then their gainier amp.
Yes! Love this pedal! I use a big spark booster in the front of it for solos.
This cracks my ass up every time. Longer introduction than fiddle. Pedal on, jawdrop, IT CHUGS and not a single knob has been touched. Yes this vid is just on innuendo.
Nice one Ola! We did a full Boss Drive comparison for all their single stompboxes other than the Wazacraft which will get their own reviews along with the JB2. The DS1X was our favourite pedal. Keep Chugging and making great videos.
You have a great Monday also Ola Peace, great chug
Wow 8 seconds to the to the pedal and it’s already chugging and already showing that it’s a good to use.
Holy hell, love that sound! Tight, hard and very "clean" distortion. Sounds like a mix between Accept and AC/DC!
I wasn't expecting that sound from a Boss distortion, awesome 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Impressive - with all the knobs at Noon too!
that sounded like the Break Stuff tone!
It's just one of those days
Where you don't want to wake up
Everything is fucked, everybody chugs!
@@fbuiafdf lol you ****in hippie1
@@fbuiafdf It's all in fun broham! Pull your vuh j j back up!
Best videos ever Ola! Keep up the good work and great content!
Holy ass man!!! Ok i didn't expect to chug so much !!
The original DS 1 ran through a Fender Super Champ was my rig for a long time in the 80’s. I miss that amp. :(
Wow that actually sounds really good. It has a nice presence to it.
i love this yellow guitar !
absolute filthy tight focused gain there. I love it and you can get that without even messing around tweaking the thing... set it to 12 o'clock and fucking rock on.
DS1 was my 1st pedal and i loved it. It is a amazing pedal. I always thought it had a very "Tool like sound to it".
sounds ace. just bought one .
Very helpful.
Another idea is to AB with the original DS-1?
I almost got rid of my DS-1. Japan made early to mid 80s. Just wasn't the sound I was going for.
Then I discovered Joe Satrianni goes through the clean channel of a Marshall with his DS-1... lol So it has a place but maybe not so much for what I go for. Funny how applying a pedal or amp in another direction can change your view.
I bought a Tremoverb based on your advice last year. It's been stellar so far. Thank you!
Hell yea I love this series! Ola you are a fucking animal keep rocking dude! 🤘🏼
Holy shit this sounds amazing! Dude I think you’re on to something here!
Ola you rock! 🤘🤘
I enjoy all of your posts. Thank you!
Now you need to try the OD1X to see how well it boosts & shapes tone
to be honest, this needed to be played considering the filter knob, there was just this spot that the pedal missed and i'm not sure if it is because we just conformed with chugging
The Ds-1x, my absolut favorite Distorsion pedal ❤
Wow. The ds 1x sounds really good here. I'll have to check it out.
Ola, have you tried using the DS1X into the high gain channel, both set to more moderate settings? Sometimes combining pedal distortion with amp distortion gives a really nice, super saturated tone. I don't mean using it as a clean boost. Literally combining the two types of distortion can be really nice.
I think i am in love with this thing!
