ALWAYS make sure your cage is locked/shut completely because somehow mine wasn't last night (even though i KNOW i closed it) and my black chin escaped 😅 Found him upstairs in our office, he went on a whole adventure, exploring every room on both floors including the bathtub LOL
Mine did that when I was at my dads house (my mum didn’t shut it properly) and they ate my whole room 😂 AND then my mum just had to blame ME for the room when I wasn’t even in the same town - let alone house. Plus it wasn’t exactly my fault that I was at my dads house considering that’s what they agreed on for about ten/eleven years
Omg I put mine back after a dust bath the other day (through the top part of the cage) and I accidentally left the bottom open 😩 he ran straight out the bottom part and had an adventure around my room. He's good though 😂
Here’s something I’ve learned for my experience, It is very hard when they die, I’ve been through it 2 times this year, they are very fragile, If you have young siblings, make sure that you watch them while they are playing with your chinchillas, I know this is off topic but I just want you guys to know this
My husband and I both often work until late, so our chin's activity schedule is ideal with us! When we get home around 9-12, we are just as awake as he is and we all have some playtime. We affectionately refer to our little family as vampyres and named our little boy Nosfüratu

Just some tips for people: a few ways to make cleaning dramatically quicker are: 1) take out the middle floor, 2) use a handvac instead of a brush and dustpan (I use a Bissell for pets), and 3) use ledges that have guards on them. Thanks to these tricks, my daily and weekly cleaning time have gone down exponentially. When I took out the middle floor, I noticed that Momo didn't go up to the corner perch or hanging hideout I put up there, but once I put a towel over the top of the cage to make it a little darker, he sleeps up there now. If you take out the middle floor, do keep in mind about falling - I put a bridge in the middle to catch him just in case. Lastly, I put pee pads under the fleece for those times when he doesn't go in his litter box. I'm down to 5 minutes a day and maybe 15 minutes for the weekly cleaning which is down from 15 minutes a day and almost an hour for the weekly cleaning (and way less mess under the cage!)
Here in Brazil it’s kinda hard to find great chinchilas toys and stuff and when you find it’s very expensive. I payed lots of money in them (they’re from a breeder like Zorro). I absolutely agree with everything you said, there are very expensive pets and live many many years. I hope people start realizing that BEFORE they get their chins. I always see adds of chins that are for sale because their previous owners got bored or didn’t want to take care of them anymore, that’s very frustrating. Thank you for all those awesome videos, I learned a lot. Kisses from 🇧🇷 😘
Chinchillas don't necessarily need another chinchilla as long as they can get social interaction between them and their owners. Also when it comes down to it chinchillas aren't that expensive, I lived through poverty (barely able to feed myself) and managed to still keep my baby happy and healthy, the situation was out of my control and had no other options but we had access to good quality food that was made for chinchillas that was uber expensive (£2.99 even now we've moved to Sweden (she did a 3 hour flight in cargo recently too) I'm still planning to keep her on that British food) I also got good suitable toys for rather cheap at the pet store the only time this wasn't the case was when I was burgled June last year and the people stole her toys because they couldn't get her. I'm a ferm believer that pets are for life and so their needs come over my own, things are way better than they were last year but it is possible to provide for chinchillas even when you're literally in poverty (the government agence actually told me that I was due to my income as an under 25) picchu was what kept me going day to day during the literal worst year of my life and now I have finally gotten her to Sweden she'll see me through some of the best years of my life, she's an amazing floof and was worth every penny to keep her with me (nearly £3000 to get her to Sweden and a huge huge panic attack on the plane as she's been my unofficial support animal over the last five years) I couldn't give her up when I was struggling to eat but her bowl was always full, toys always available and plenty of social time with me and the other people that would come to see her, picchu is my best friend and she's really bonded with me to the point when we finally picked her up and I got to check on her after the flight she ran straight onto my lap and let me hug her (which she doesn't allow often) she didn't even glad or try to run anywhere else, humans can build super strong bonds with chinchillas.
I'm so grateful that you were able to keep your precious pet and support animal by your side. Also I like how you explain how you did it during a financial crisis you experienced. Please keep in mind that a lot of young people as well as children follow this channel. They have no control over what their parents are willing to do or spend on such an exotic pet. For that reason I'm glad she pointed out the very real responsibility that comes with a Chin. Also keep in mind some people don't have your commitment to doing the right thing no matter the challenges they might face. I hope your future looks up from now on. I hope you receive my message in the gentle, kind, and humble way it is intended. Please pet your very special floof for me!🙂

We just got our chinchilla yesterday and Nitro was for free, no clue why, but he came with his large cage and some of his toys and a tunnel and bath and food bowl etc but love him and the bonus is that since we spend no money on him and his cage we can spoil him more with toys and get him better things with the money we could've initially spent on the animal and his cage!! The fact that your chinnies don’t react to the camera/phone lol! If I shoved it even outside his cage, my chinchilla would attempt to swallow my camera lol
We used to let our chinchilla out every evening and she was super friendly with both of ours cats. They never bothered 😅 in the nighttime she used shake her cage very loud. It was hilarious 😂
i had a chinchilla long time ago and i got a big wheel so it can get exercise and it take dust baths with lava dust and got a lava rock so it can grinding down teeth and got a ferret cage
People who are thinking about getting a chinchilla might instead consider getting a Mini Rex rabbit. The Mini Rex is probably as soft as a chinchilla -- seriously, they're incredibly soft -- will be cheaper to buy, has a great personality, can be litter trained if you want to keep it free roaming in your home, are fastidious creatures that don't shed much, are generally pretty quiet and can more-or-less adjust their sleep cycle to yours, are OK living alone IF you give them a lot of attention, can live to be 10-12 years (I take this as a good thing because it'll be a good long-term companion), and probably have cheaper upkeep. I have a Mini Rex and it's the best pet I've ever owned.
Why wouldn't you be able to take ur chinchillas once u get married?! If my husband wouldn't accept my pets that I had years before him, he's def not a keeper. We can honestly live in separate houses if it's that big of an issue, but I would never give up my pets for someone new. The pets were there first.
What a wonderful informative video. My sister has a cream and silver chin she doesn't like as well as her first that was handled and wasn't part of a bonded pair (she says it keeps them from bonded to a human). I'm going to save this video to send to people interesting in them during their rehoming process. Thank you!
HIII I had a idea for a video u could do that would be helpful for me and I think other viewers as well my idea is a video called “don’t worry if your chinchilla does these things” thanks! Love your channel!!
I've been buying oxbow timothy hay for a long time now. I believe you recommended it to me so that's what I've been buying. The same red bag like yours, have you notice that lately the hay is not as crisp and fresh? The past couple times I've gotten it my chinchillas don't care for it as much as I I think they used to. Have you noticed a change in the hay? Or is it just me? I want to try something new but I'm not sure what else to get. They also eat the same oxbow pallets in the red bag like yours.
My dad got me a huge multi level cage that came with tons of toys and accessories for only 40 bucks. It was originally like 250 but he found it for 40 so I'm thinking I might get one im just doing my research and saving up first.
I’ve had 1 chinchilla for 2 years now and he has never bit me out of anger or being afraid (sometimes while grabbing treats) but I’m thinking of getting him a friend, I’m pretty sure I am lucky because he is super nice and doesn’t mind being handled or touched by HUMANS but I’m not sure if we would react the same with a partner. How should I go about getting him a friend.
Is it okay for a chinchilla to “socialize” with humans, I really want one but don’t have the money to get two and was wondering if I spend a lot of time with it, would it still get bored?
They can socialise with humans but it’s not the same as the bond with each other. Maybe you can adopt an old one/really old one/ one with certain health issues or has fought with many other chinchillas under proper socialising.
My parents are thinking about getting me a chinchilla! Even though my brother has One that looks like a Merlin lol. But only prove myself responsible, because I’m lazy.
my chinchilla isn’t really noisy but i’m plaining on getting another chinchilla but i’m scared cause idk if he likes other chinchillas but they said he’s a sweetheart
I’ve been really interested in getting a chinchilla and was thinking about getting two because they live in groups right!? So i have some questions, can two chinchillas be in one cage with more levels or is two cages next to each other better? And do they work well with other animals like cats? I have one and he is really friendly.
Hey I know you wrote this a while ago and you might know the answer to your question already but this is just for anyone else who is wondering :) So yes, most chinchillas need to or are better living in pairs, although some, (like Merlin) get aggressive or territorial around other chinchillas and therefore are sometimes better living alone. It would be just fine to have 2 chinchillas in the one cage that is 2 levels or more, unless they are in the process of bonding, if they are I would probably only have them in the same cage with supervision and two cages next to each other would be the best option until they are bonded. For the cat question, Obviously don’t take the chinchillas out of the cage with a cat in the same room or with access to the room. Even though having a cat around the cage could make them really stressed, at some point they will realize that they are safe in their cage and the cat can’t get to them so they will probably get used to them. I hope this helps!
i turn down after she said its a messy pet lol, i will stick with just my hamsters. Btw "they are not cheap like cat." ??? cats in my country cost $2000-$5000 -__-
My chinchilla is literally right next to my bed and he has never woken me up. Even when I had 2 they never woke me up. Its different for every chinchilla but I have heard they can be loud, I guess I'm lucky mine isnt
I am going to get one soon but pleas tell me my sister is asthmatic if we keep it very distant from her and keep an inhaler with her at all times and make sure she has check ups so we know it’s safe for her to stay by the chinchilla (distant) and not suffocate or something bad happens, is this one of the right things to do?? Me and my father really want and love chinchillas and really want one so is this a safe idea??
My local pet store only has one Chinchilla in stock, so what do you suggest I do alternatively? And moreover, because I'm a med student, I don't think I can afford two Chinchillas, whilst on student budget, haven't got the funds for two, only one
Hi! I have two chinchillas that are sisters who share a cage and they are both about to turn one. For their birthday I was going to purchase a bigger cage and I was just wondering where you got your from. Thanks :)
hi there i love you videos this is just an update on my 2 chinchillas both my chins have now bonded and they are now sleeping in the same cage and sleeping together in the same box it did take quite a while for them to bond but its all been worth it
I'm so happy with all of the videos you have been posting lately! Just a side note, what is up with the leaning ledge on the back of Zorro's cage on the bottom unit lol (don't take that the wrong way I'm just joking)
I only have one chinchilla and he likes being alone and stuff like that but I don't know if I should put another chinchilla in the cage because he's really liking his how much attention he's getting
I am not aloud to get 2 but They say I can get one but I own to guinea pigs that are very active and noisy do u think that’s ok two get one due to my situation. And I would be keeping them both in my room.
I have traded some things of mine and so I may be getting a deal with one of my dads friends I do have plenty of money saved for a cage food and treats etc. I also am going to start working soon and making more money for them
Any advice on how to help a Chin adjust from always having a cage mate to not having one? One of my chins is very sick and I don't know if she'll be around much longer. My second chin is fine but I don't know how I can help her adjust.
I have been wanting a chinchilla for a while but I didn’t have the funds for on. My mom said if I get all a’s she will buy me everything I need. I just have to buy food and hay and stuff like that.
I remember I tried to introduce my chinchilla to another in a pet store to see if he is friendly or not. My chinnie tried flipping the other one over 😭 he was very aggressive. Thankfully I was holding him throughout the whole thing so no one was harmed. Now Ik he’s a lone boy 🥺
is smaller cage (than yours) is ok for chinchillas first months? cose i am getting 3 month chinchilla and thinking about smaller cage at first and latter i am gonna upgrade it
It’s best not to have cats around the cage. Chinchillas may not show their fear or stress but it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Chinchillas are naturally prey animals that can sense predators💕

Early!!! Tell Merlin and zoro i said hii!
Ik this is old but for the poop guards you can get them at the esty shop: Pandamonium Pets
Hope this helped 😊
Why wouldn't you be able to take ur chinchillas once u get married?! If my husband wouldn't accept my pets that I had years before him, he's def not a keeper. We can honestly live in separate houses if it's that big of an issue, but I would never give up my pets for someone new. The pets were there first.
What a wonderful informative video. My sister has a cream and silver chin she doesn't like as well as her first that was handled and wasn't part of a bonded pair (she says it keeps them from bonded to a human). I'm going to save this video to send to people interesting in them during their rehoming process. Thank you!
when u have a bunny and two guniea pigs so the mess isnt gonna bother you 😂
HIII I had a idea for a video u could do that would be helpful for me and I think other viewers as well my idea is a video called “don’t worry if your chinchilla does these things” thanks! Love your channel!!
Fantastic advice! Thank you for this!
@@Yeewen88 oh okay!! Thank you so much :)
@@totorio_ you're welcome
My parents are thinking about getting me a chinchilla! Even though my brother has One that looks like a Merlin lol. But only prove myself responsible, because I’m lazy.
My chinny was happy to be alone. He was stressed.
Volunteer in a chinny place.
I think they are awesome critters!
my chinchilla isn’t really noisy but i’m plaining on getting another chinchilla but i’m scared cause idk if he likes other chinchillas but they said he’s a sweetheart
yes they are very expensive my cage with about 260 and my chinchilla was about 170 plus his toys food treats and just extra things
If you guys want free chinchillas ASK THE *Santa claus* 😀🔫
My local pet store only has one Chinchilla in stock, so what do you suggest I do alternatively? And moreover, because I'm a med student, I don't think I can afford two Chinchillas, whilst on student budget, haven't got the funds for two, only one
Hi! I have two chinchillas that are sisters who share a cage and they are both about to turn one. For their birthday I was going to purchase a bigger cage and I was just wondering where you got your from. Thanks :)
hi there
i love you videos this is just an update on my 2 chinchillas both my chins have now bonded and they are now sleeping in the same cage and sleeping together in the same box it did take quite a while for them to bond but its all been worth it
I don’t have a chinchilla so I ask for one for my b-day and I have enough money to buy some toys and good food love your vids
im glad a family in my area is giving away their’s. they’re also giving my fam the cage and the food/necessities they have at the moment
Is a bunny suitable for a chinchilla cuz I wasn’t planning to have 2 of them
Or sleep with ear plugs if you live with pets, hell even if you live with anyone alive and breathing lol. I could never sleep without ear plugs
I'm so happy with all of the videos you have been posting lately! Just a side note, what is up with the leaning ledge on the back of Zorro's cage on the bottom unit lol (don't take that the wrong way I'm just joking)
Godisgreat Godbless It’s broken😂 And I’ve been meaning to fix it so I probably should today 💕
@@TheChinchillaNotebook lol
I only have one chinchilla and he likes being alone and stuff like that but I don't know if I should put another chinchilla in the cage because he's really liking his how much attention he's getting
Omg thank u so much I watched sooooo many of your videos and they help me so much just got a chin a few days ago bit too late
YEET BEET aww how exciting!💕
I am not aloud to get 2 but They say I can get one but I own to guinea pigs that are very active and noisy do u think that’s ok two get one due to my situation. And I would be keeping them both in my room.
I have traded some things of mine and so I may be getting a deal with one of my dads friends I do have plenty of money saved for a cage food and treats etc. I also am going to start working soon and making more money for them
Instead of 190 dollar petsmart chinchilla I could get it for 20 dollars
Unfortunately my dads friend has a guy and girl so they have to be separated but next to each other
Any advice on how to help a Chin adjust from always having a cage mate to not having one? One of my chins is very sick and I don't know if she'll be around much longer. My second chin is fine but I don't know how I can help her adjust.
Glad you want to get him a partner. 👍🏻😁
Well what state do you live in I live in Ohio there's too cold out there for some stuff in the winter time
i would make wooden cage inside the backyard instead of keeping them indoors.
I’m getting two chinchillas but I don’t have an aircon but I was going buy a aircon from amazon that stands up , do you think it will be okay ?
is it normal if chinchilla is shedding (not a lot) before summer/winter?
I’m writing this down no I don’t own one yet I just lost a Guinea pig that’s why I’ve hoped for a chinchilla
Sis I feel you take notes 📝
How is there 3 people that’s first?
magic
There was a white chinchilla that was white with black ears and paws and it was 36$
I am fetching mine today!!!
Also, if you don't mind me asking, why are you possibly moving across the country?
Godisgreat Godbless My parent bought a house across the country and I might be moving with them 😊
@@TheChinchillaNotebook oh well I hope you and your family (and chinchillas) are happy wherever you end up living!
I have been wanting a chinchilla for a while but I didn’t have the funds for on. My mom said if I get all a’s she will buy me everything I need. I just have to buy food and hay and stuff like that.
I am getting one in two weeks I got a big cage we are ready
🥺
I remember I tried to introduce my chinchilla to another in a pet store to see if he is friendly or not. My chinnie tried flipping the other one over 😭 he was very aggressive. Thankfully I was holding him throughout the whole thing so no one was harmed. Now Ik he’s a lone boy 🥺
Is the Selective Chinchilla food healthy for them?
I'm getting 2 chinchillas on Saturday because we are getting the cage on Friday but it's a biggggg cage don't wory
Takeaway: Don't get a real-life Pikachu.
My dad was thinking of getting a Chinchilla
Can you give me the link to where you bought your cage please.
I think she bought it from Amazon and it’s called the critter nation model 162 ☺️
lol “ I might get married and not be able to take them with me” if my husband didn’t like chins I wouldn’t have a husband 😂
We still want one i can't wait
Its a herd animal. Just sad to have one by it self 😳😢
Question if you have a rabbit do the same pellets work for the chinchillas
They have very unique needs for their diet, so they can’t be sharing the same type of food💕
Can you keep two chinchillas in the same cage? But both same genders
I have my chinchillas In my room so i sleep with earbuds
Lmao u gave ur chinchilla a badass name “zoro”
is smaller cage (than yours) is ok for chinchillas first months? cose i am getting 3 month chinchilla and thinking about smaller cage at first and latter i am gonna upgrade it
It’s fine as long as it isn’t permanent💕
@@TheChinchillaNotebook i am gonna be using that for few monts:)
And so, the insult "Monkey Chinchilla" was born..
6:27 really girl? Cause u did exactly what u said 😒
Love u guys so much and ur content love your chins
Are chinchillas scared of cats cause I got two of them
It’s best not to have cats around the cage. Chinchillas may not show their fear or stress but it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Chinchillas are naturally prey animals that can sense predators💕
Slowly introduce them I have 3 cats and two dogs. And my chinchilla goes up to them and sometimes plays with them.
My parents won’t let me have a chinchilla and I’m so upset about it. Any tips?
