The ones that weren’t killed were tricked by the Dwemer. The snow elves were made slaves in Dwemer cities and fed mushrooms that took their eyesight. Hundreds of years later you call them falmer without even knowing.
He plays on legendary and doesn't grind crafting skills to improve his gear. It seems he also uses combat overhaul mods. Result: everything can one-shot poor Joe Joeman. He probably can take a few hits from wolves and skeevers, nothing more.
I too never took the test to get into the college, and they still made me their arch mage. The worst part about the College of Winterhold is their atrocious security.
