My Tribute to Eddie Van Halen

- In 1978 a friend of mine played a song from the first Van Halen record. It blew me away and caused me to take up the guitar and try to learn did on that record and many others since. It was the next evolution of the electric guitar since Jimi Hendricks. Eddies had the sound, the technique, the looks and the songs that made him a complete package. Truth be told, throughout my teens and early adulthood I wanted to be like him. Less than a month ago on October 6, 2020 Eddie Van Halen, one of the world's greatest guitar pioneers in rock and roll passed away. This is my tribute to him as I play his acoustic composition Spanish Fly from Van Halen ll.

A- That was some really nice guitar playing you did.
B- Eddie Van Halens music was not where my musical tastes are.
However I truly admire and respect his work. The word “icon” can sometimes be thrown around a little to easily. But I would argue that if you asked any dedicated guitarist they would agree that Eddie was an icon of guitar. The world only gets a small amount of souls with the talent that puts them on a completely different level. We lost one in Eddie. May his music live on to inspire generations to come.
