I love this ceremony and if two countries can get all of their macho posturing out in one ceremony and then live side by side peacefully, They have a lot to teach the rest of us. Long may it continue.
@@stevendimmock4791 This ceremony has always confused me because the border is still contentious and these two countries aren’t on the best terms. So many little Indian girls are kidnapped by Muslim Pakistani men, taken across the border and forced to convert and marry. This ceremony is like candy coating a snake. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of wonderful Pakistani’s, but the bad ones seem to have been given free reign.
since the description does not describe I will. The Beating Retreat Ceremony at the Attari-Wagah Border is a daily military spectacle that takes place on the international border between India and Pakistan: What happens: Soldiers from both countries march in a synchronized drill, lower their national flags, and then shake hands. The ceremony ends with the closing of the iron gates at the border. When it happens: The ceremony takes place every evening, with the timing depending on the season.
I now know where the British comedian John Cleese got the inspiration when he made the skit of the "Ministry of Silly walks". This ceremony though very elaborate and spectacular is if looked at objectively hilarious. It's macho male posturing in the extreme.
@@jaredellis2754 I was remarking on something that seems cool to me. I have never been to India, so I wouldn't know for a fact what the BEST reason to visit is. If you do, enlighten us please.
As Winston Churchill might have said "Never, in the field of human conflict, have so many moustaches, been groomed to such military perfection, by so many."
your sure the butcher of Bengal, Mr Churchill said that? He also has been quoted as blaming the famine on the fact Indians were “breeding like rabbits”, and asking how, if the shortages were so bad, Mahatma Gandhi was still alive, as well as redirecting a sizeable amount of money from Bengal to aid the war efforts instead helping the relief of the famine which killed up to 3 million people. Not that you care.

Monty Python must be Indian. Now I know where the ministry of silly walks came from. Mix that with Bollywood and HEY PRESTO you have a spectacular extravaganza
All western political leaders should see this to have a better understanding of Russia. That is, in person, and not on video. A very primal show of strength.
Russia is a poor state, where many people don't have indoor toilets or sealed roads, trying to be an imperialist empire run by a corrupt and brutal kleptocrate. What is there to learn? Other than how not to run a country.
If there are aliens out there, hopefully they're watching this fine display of military bravado, wherever they are, and think to themselves "We're not going to earth, they've got 2 metre high cockerels with guns".
Helps keep the border friendly as most of the people in the area are related even if distantly, the people have been there for a few thousand years but the border was created carving Pakistan from India after WW2.
From what I understand both sides get together and plan the show. They are very respectful and do their utmost to show pride in their flag ceremony. The handshake was very important and the crowd cheered happily. This ceremony is a very bright and hopeful event for two countries with nuclear weapons that are still in a war standing.
This is artistically beautiful and poignant in meaning....but people seem to forget that it only takes one order on either side to green light aggression. True peace is when neither side has military alert, and all of this is in a museum. The same hostilities with the ccp.
Excellent display from both sides. As Pakistan came into being after British rule, why is it that this is attributed to them? I’m Scottish but born in India so perhaps I should shut up.
Hi! Two countries are having a friendly marching ceremony competition at their boarder. The two countries are India and Pakistan, who are political enemies.
Anyone else get the feeling that India and Pakistan only started their border tensions as a way to sell tickets to this show? Just a sneaky way to generate interest in a colorful display of national pride?
WAH WAH WAH PAKISTANIES WONDERFUL I couldn’t get Pakistani people because they came to watch the parade .Celebrating Independence Day. Our country is going down. We have no food, no medicine, and look at our currency. Look at the Indian currency, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and even Nipal, our currency is lower than theirs. Our dollar rate touches the mountain. Indian people are celebrating. I understand their country is flourishing and getting stronger. Shame on those people who were watching the parade and cheering them on the other hand, our county has already bankrupted. In 1971 war between India and Pakistan we lost the whole Bangladesh and here we talk about Azad Kashmir. Our armies killed so many innocent people 25 March 1971 Tikka Khan’s ordered to his soldiers was “ I want the land and not the people” Tikka Khan was ordered to the Operation Searchlight. Thousands were killed in this operation, including academics and other members of civil society, and the country was plunged into a bloody civil war.
John Cleese at his best. Wasn’t like that under the British all one happy family for 300 years. Pakistan, india,Bangladesh,Sri Lanka, Burma. Now look at it. Millions starving and wasting money putting an unmanned space craft on the moon!

I saw this in 2020 when visiting from Australia, it was an absolute spectacle and the crowd was in a frenzy, the video doesn’t do it justice
