I wonder how this insanity of a festival came to be?!? A lot of resentment must be felt to not feel awkward and instead to feel patriotic when your side makes those outlandish movements or ritually fights the other side with invisible swords.. I guess this show is used to defuse or express peacefully some of the frustrations on the border settlement...Just crazy (from an outlander's perspective)

Yes, this used to be a serious ceremony with both sides simply marching in with their full dress goose stepping style in absolutely perfect unison, attempting to look sharper than the other guys. It now appears to have descended (hasn't everything?) into an NBA Dunk Contest style "look at me" individual performance, complete with hot chick soldiers/cops (who aren't that good compared to the old days - but they ARE hot). I'm beginning to understand my Grandparents more each day. It IS all going to Hell.

If the original Idea of Sukarno, Nehru, Ali from the Banding conference of 1955 would revive that these three countries (Indonesia, India & Pakistan) could combine forces, also with Thailand (without dictatorship) and VietNam, there would be a real new world power. A force fo the good - with al the philosophy and culture in the history of those countries - to compete peacefully with the USA, China, Russia and (Western) Europe. With a new vision on everything. The only problems to solve are poverty, environment, the thread to nature an climate change.

There are 3 pressure points on Earth where things might erupt like a volcano at any moment. Israel vs Palestine is a civilizational war of Jews vs Muslims
India vs Pakistan is civilizational war of Hindus vs Muslims
North Korea vs South Korea is proxy war USA vs Russia/China.
Among these 3 the most dangerous is India vs Pakistan as both are equally nuclear powered.
So in case of the existnce is concerned civilizational wars are more lethal. Also considering India and Israel are two of the ancient still continuously living civilizations of the world fighting with a newly made one gives the ancient one more determination of "This is our land"... Palestine is fighting for existence, Pakistan is fighting for revenge without any reason even though its not harmed, North Korea is fighting for power
Peace is never an option for these countries unless either of these economically weak countries completely collapses even so there will be problem.

I disagree. North America's militaries are neither at war with each other, nor prone to such excess, preferring precision and discipline to flamboyance and disorder. Personally, I know it doesn't get the crowds going like this does but it is truly something to behold and can be both inspiring and intimidating in it's composure and unity. I've always been proud of our military performances and will continue to be, even without this flamboyance and fanfare.

The fact that both countries can come together for their flag ceremony is most definitely a start for finding a peaceful solution that can work.
