As of late, I've been watching a lot of RUclips videos. Taylors seem to be too bright for my ear. Fast forward to this video with an all mahogany 324CE. Excellent format and presentation! So much so that I clicked the link to your store and purchased a 324CE. Keep up the great reviews.
Just played one. One of the best sounding guitars I’ve touched. It’s extremely smooth and the high’s do poke through just enough. One of the only Taylor’s I’ve played that doesn’t have one dominant frequency.
Gotta say that’s a sweet-sounding guitar. I have 322e (Tasmanian Blackwood back & sides) that is a joy to play and hear. Great demo as always, Cooper, and I look forward to learning all about new models you mentioned.

I also have GS mini mahogany, I love its sound and its natural finish, I'm not the biggest fan of Sunburst painting on acoustics, I wish the have a natural version of the 324. The 314 looks better to me, but I'm not sure about the brighter sound...
"The midrange monster, the LaMarcus Aldridge, the DeMar DeRozan" is gonna sneak by most listeners, but your dry delivery of that was absolutely **chef's kiss**.
HI Cooper, thank you for this demo! I have one of these guitars. Thank you for the inspiration and for showing how this kind of guitar is supposed to sound when played well. I love it!
Great demo. Strumming, flat picking and finger picking. You covered all the bases. I'm not a mahogany fan but this one sounded good. Damn, you are a good guitar player. Now you got me wondering what the changes are that are coming to Taylor guitars. I'm wanting to add a 814ce to my Taylor collection but I'm now wondering if I should wait for these updates you mentioned.
Having played the 322CE I was blown away by the warmth and playability. Great guitars, and very much a ‘keeper’…not bad for tone woods used in vintage wardrobes. 😊💥🇬🇧👍📺
Can you do a sound comparison between the all-mahogany 324ce v-class and the 324ce builder‘s edition with urban-ash back and sides? Will the builder‘s edition have mahogany back and sides in the future too?
There must be more at work here, and good reasons for them to make this change. However, they already make the all-mahogany 524ce, so why change the 324ce to be virtually the same as the 524ce? Interesting to see if people hear a $500 difference between the two. Maybe you guys could do an A-B.
I gotta tell ya, the back of that guitar looks like Sapele with the striping: “Sapele Mahogany.” In fact, the way you could distinguish the difference between Sapele and Mahogany was by the striped pattern.
I have the Tasmanian blackwood 324e as well. Got it about a month ago and it is buttery smooth and mellow. So glad I got mine before they discontinued the Tasmanian blackwood. No knock against all mahogany but the mahogany/blackwood is just what I was looking for.
I recently bought a used Taylor 324ce with Tasmanian Blackwood and I have some bad ringing noises on the higher strings that drive me nuts. I took it to a few repair shops and no one could find the problem. A Taylor certified shop did a neck reset and also ran it through a Plek machine but it's still making the same noises. Have you had any issues like this on yours?
@@paulgoulet8343 Sorry, I have not had any issues like that. In fact the lack of piercing highs is what I really enjoy about it. Gives the guitar a very well rounded and meaty tone. Hope you can find a remedy or just move on to the next one:-)
Here is an interesting question. If you put blackwood version next to a mahogany can you tell the difference? I ask because I bought one and the tag said blackwood while Taylor guitars looked up the serial number and said it is all mahogany. It would be interesting to hear them side by side for comparison......
Alamo, I am a lefty, so my options are limited, im also somewhat of a newbie... Would a used Taylor K26ce (2016) be better than a brand new Taylor 324ce all mahogany????
Do you know when the change was made? I have a 324ce dated 3-11-22. When I bought mine and at the moment I am typing this the Taylor website shows it as Tropical Mahogany Top | Tasmanian Blackwood Back and Sides. Just trying to figure out what I have here.
@@gregmika8026 I had the same question about my 324e. It, too, was manufactured 3/2022. I bought it May 9. I submitted a question to Taylor on their website a couple of weeks ago asking them for clarification but never heard back. I’m going on the assumption that it’s Tasmanian blackwood just because I hadn’t heard anything about this change until after I bought mine and was told it was T. blackwood. I think I will follow back up with Taylor about this. Either way, I love the sound, feel and looks of the guitar.
I had been looking at various used and new models of the 324’s and other Taylor’s for months before deciding on the new 324e I bought. Visually, the Tasmanian blackwood and the mahogany (from the 500 series) are similar. But it seems like the grain of the blackwood tends to have more variegation compared to the more uniform grain pattern of the mahagony. The pattern on the back of my guitar has beautiful variegation so I feel pretty sure mine is blackwood.
This is such a great review! I got mine a couple weeks ago and I love it. Only one thing - the A and D strings keep buzzing when I play frets 5-12, even after the technician tuned it. Do you think this is normal? He even sanded the nut and the saddle a little so I’m not sure if it’s a defect. Any advice is welcome!
Why does the inlay on this model vary from other boring dot inlay from guitar to guitar of the same 324 model? That simple dot configuration has got to be cheaper, thus impacting the price. Someone please explain, I'm not finding the answer on line like I was promised 😔 in college where I was told the Googles know everything. Help!

Cooper could you please give some feedback or anyone who knows the answer? How does this compare to the Builder’s Edition? The BE version has Mahogany top but urban ash back and sides. Is this an upgrade having urban ash bc it’s more expensive? Thanks.
Listen to the videos. Urban ash has a spiky high end imo. Andy Powers is a genius at putting thoughts in our heads. He describes Urban Ash as sounding like Honduran Mahogany? Give me a break.
Hard to compare across different RUclips channels but the all mahogany mids sound so much clearer; the blackwood didn't sound dark or mellow so much as just muddled to me (worse on the 14 fret than the 12).. definitely a welcome change and one that makes me more likely to consider this model. I think it might have lost a little clarity on the bass notes though.
Is it an upgrade, really? An all-mahogany construction makes it less unique as other manufacturers are making all-mahogany or all-sapele guitars. Australian Blackwood (it grows throughout eastern Australia, not just Tasmania) is more unusual and mostly favoured by Australian builders like Maton, though Lowden have it as an option on their 35 or 50 series. It would be interesting to see what American builders could do with blackwood and Taylor are known for experimenting with different woods, although perhaps there's enough to keep Maton and Cole Clark going but not a whole bunch of overseas makers.
It sounds good! But I think Taylor made a mistake. It doesn't sound any better than the Tas blackwood 324ce and there's heaps of mahogany top/mahogany body guitars out there that they are now putting themselves in direct comparison with. Tas blackwood always felt like a feature that "one upped" the competition, but my opinion may be in the minority on that. By the way, the 324ce is one of the few taylors where I would ditch the elixir strings in favour of d'addario XS series on there - it just brings out a little more out of the guitar and allows for more delicate picking in my opinion. I always felt I had to dig in a little more to get the most out of it with elixir strings. I'll never let go of my Tas 324ce. :) edit: listening to the old alamo videos, the old 324ce seemed to have a nicer, more delicate high end. THAT SAID: could just be the difference between Cooper and Chris' playstyle, mic settings, individual diffences between those 2 specific demo'd guitars... etc etc.
Hi Cooper. Might just be me but I have the Taz Blackwood and think it sounds better and agree with others comments that there are all mahogany versions from both Taylor and others. Will never part with mine.
Most likely a cost-cutting measure of some sort. Maybe they're using mahogany not good enough for the 5-series, have a large surplus of mahogany on-hand, or ran into supply/cost issues with Tasmanian Blackwood.
