  • Opinionated DS9 Episode Guide picks up from our Odo cliffhanger. They plan to infiltrate the most secure place in the Klingon empire to expose a changeling, no matter how much booze they have to drink to do it.

    Welp thats the end of this Martok fellow. He had a good run and Im sure he'll never pop up in the future nor be referenced in this show or any other future incarnations of Star Trek ever again.

    René Auberjonois said he found the Klingon make-up much easier than his typical Odo makeup, since it covered less of his face. This also wasn't the first time he wore Klingon makeup without playing an actual Klingon as he played Colonel West in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country who disguised himself as a Klingon and attempted to assassinate the Federation President at the Khitomer Conference. But Kirk and the Enterprise crew stopped the assassination and revealed the conspiracy.

    Along with Terry Farrell not reacting well to heavy makeup, apparently Colm Meaney complained so much while he was wearing it that Michael Dorn asked that he never have to do so again.

    • @marshallhuffer4713
      @marshallhuffer4713 4 дня назад +8

      Meaney himself commented, "All I remember from that show was the makeup. The makeup drove me ''insane''. I think I bitched so much about it that they won't ''ever'' put me in alien makeup again. It gave me new respect for Michael. I don't know how he or any of the other people who play Klingons on our show do it. I had to do it for six days, and I almost went insane. It's very, very difficult to go in hours early, sit in a chair for hours, and then go in and try to act. Then, when you're finally done working, you've got to go and get it all removed. ''Not'' fun."

      If I recall correctly, Dorn only half-playfully told them all to shut the hell up since they complained about the early call for makeup for this episode while that was his daily routine since 1987.

      I've had the same reaction to his _Enterprise_ reviews. Mind, there it's because much of the show is pure dribble and so merely incompetent storytelling gets a five-out-of-ten.

    It's kind of a shame that this was a last-minute change to Martok as the Changeling, because it works _so well_ with the Dominion's approach. Trick the Federation into assassinating Gowron, and you outrage the Klingons over the Federation's dishonor and their hypocrisy--"We think the Cardassian leadership has been replaced by Changelings, and you condemn us; you think our leadership has been replaced by Klingons, and you send in an assassination squad." At the same time, you probably seriously undermine Federation morale and self-confidence--can't you see Picard saying "we don't do assassinations; we've evolved beyond that"? The result--Klingons out for blood, the Federation divided and doubting itself, and no hope for a unified front against the Dominion.
