After missing his flight home from Sitka, Alaska, Charlie Berens gets a job on a fishing boat for the summer to make enough money to buy a new plane ticket home. Charlie relies heavily on his experience of catching walleye, bass, and perch back home on the lakes of Wisconsin but might be out of his depth when ocean fishing for King Salmon in Alaska.

This is awesome! I was a deckhand for Skipper Eric back in my college days. I had zero experience and easily got seasick. I think the only reason he took me was I was good friends with his sons.
After a week of getting sick my equilibrium reset to a steady sway and I felt better.
Easily the hardest job I have ever had, 5am to 10pm every day when we were on the water. We would come back to town ever few days or so to sell. But if you weren’t fishing you weren’t making any money.
Charlie, you picked the right guy to take you out. Eric is a class act and a patient teacher.

To be honest I don't think it's either I think he might just sound like that from all the screaming he might have to do on the boat I don't know what it's like to be on a boat but I'm sure it's pretty noisy out there.

It’s kind of funny that you could actually see how excited Charlie was when he really caught a salmon.

I deep sea fish in California and fish with down riggers for lake trout(similar to salmon)

Is that an average size for a king out there? The average steelhead in the tributaries out here are the same size, thought that salmon would be bigger
That man has been yelling at deckhands for so many years and at such a volume, that his vocal cords are blown out. Eric was meant for that job.

I might not be a commercial fisherman but the work ethic is the same for us pipe-liners up in the oil fields of the North Slope. I recently relocated to Wisconsin for work (solar energy’s taking over), and got a pleasant surprise: met my soulmate who’s born and raised in the Badger State, and we are happily engaged to soon be married ❤ and he loves my Alaskan accent 😂(I didn’t know we had one).

Well what a coincidence, I’m a Wisconsinite and I’m in Alaska right now on vacation. I was in Juneau last year and this year I’m in Homer. Caught halibut in Juneau and this Saturday I’ll be going for halibut, rockfish, and king salmon!

I spent 14 glorious days looking at Mount Edgecumbe from my aunt Mary’s house. Sitka is a beautiful town with wonderful people! Can’t wait to go back!!

As a born and raised sconnie, it's always been a dream of mine to move to Alaska. That said if they think we talk Funny then I think I'll stay here. Very funny stuff. Keep er moving.

I immediately recognized the volcano in the background - Mount Edgecumbe. Look up Mount Edgecumbe April fools prank for a good laugh. One of the most legendary April fools pranks of all time! I fly up to Sitka occasionally for work. Beautiful area. Love the videos Charlie! Used to live in the Midwest too and get a good laugh. You blended with the locals in Seahawk territory amazingly well for being a packer fan. 🤣

We don't actually speak like that in WI - the tone of voice esp. , is exaggerated quite a bit from what - usually the older folks , esp. in Norwegian-heavy areas - sound like . In my experience anyways. If the younger ones do it, it's on purpose or our of habit from doing it on purpose. Not to mock anyone, but to celebrate anything unique and homey about our home. I'm in western WI, Dunn co. , and don't "get out " a lot tho, never have. So, this is very much just my experience.

I went out with some neighbors who competitively fish for Lake Trout on Lake Ontario. My lord. I thought I'd be a big help, these guys had it down to a science. I basically stood to the side and handed em what they told me to.
