There is no place like home/ My husband escaped communist Hungary in 1971 and knew zero English when he landed in NYC.He was sponsered by the IRC and given one months hotel room in a dirty old rat infested room and then was on is own. He was working within 10 days of arriving in the US and was lucky he had a needed skill as a machinist; Many of his fellow Hungarians almost went back home because it was hard to be a newbie in the US.Now in our old age we are living in Hungary. Long story but in 1975 my husband almost gave up on the US and flew to S; Africa; It was not for him but he did say it was a beautiful country and felt like the birth place of humanity. PS, I am American and we are considering going back to the US or perhaps a country in Asia. Life is short, have make yourself happy.
Thank you Marilyn for taking time to share your story. I appreciate. We need to hear more stories like the one of your husband's and I will try my best to keep creating content around challenges faces by immigrants. Life is indeed short.
I grew up in the US and never knew this was a thing. That some people around the world thought highly of my country. I did not learn this until I traveled abroad as an adult, especially in parts of Africa and it’s still hard to understand when there is so much good on the African continent. Of course if you’re from a war torn or unstable country it’s understandable to want to leave but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Black Americans have always had somewhat of a struggle here. I see more people/immigrants wanting to leave and return to their countries now especially since life is getting even harder for some in the US and parts of the west. I hear that today Rwanda is flourishing, maybe it’s time for you to go back. I’m from the US ~ many generations so I’ll continue to tough it out here for now 😅 but if I were from somewhere else and the country was stable, I’d leave as soon as I could.
I think you have no clue about what you are talking about. I am an African who has spent the last 25 years in Europe. Since 2018, I have travelled to different African countries at least 3 times a year for various reasons. Therefore, I m convinced that what you are talking about is something you know little off. Africans are not migrating because it is in vogue. In most cases, it is the only and best option.
Moving back home is not hard. Why would I go live in America, Europe, Canada, Australia, for 20-30, why? Go to the so called west, build your own house, buy lands, start something and go back home. Don't buy nothing valuable in the so called west. Those places are very depressing. If your wife doesn't want to go, you can always find a new wife, leave. Do you want to end up a a nursery home?
@@Charles_Shima Well, that's the reality of life. I really don't know why Africans enjoys going to these Cold places knowing that it's not good for their health. I'm from Angola and I can't see myself leaving this country for anywhere on this earth. I know the reasons some of our people leaves, but once things are back to normalcy in your own country, please go back and help your own people.
