My parents moved from the US to the UK for almost four years between 1978-1982. The experience was so eye opening and culturally expansive for them and for me & my daughter when we visited them. I think that is why I value your utube channel. Watching you experience the UK with your “fresh” perspective is so enjoyable. Also, when you highlight the differences when you return to your home in Germany, I feel a kinship with you though the differences between the UK & USA & Germany are sometimes great, they are also similar. I can appreciate your perspective better after having lived in the UK & traveling back home. Should you ever return permanently to Germany, I would encourage you to continue your utube channel in Germany as I would be just as open & inquisitive about your perspective on Germany. I’m sure many of your current viewers would be as well. At any rate, thank you for sharing your lives with us!
The clear honesty in this account of your decision and move is refreshing. It was obvious to me that there must have been sacrifices involved, but I detected real joy in the building of your lives in the UK. Discovering this channel brought me to tears and just as importantly, to the Britain I have always longed to visit. I am 70 years young now, with some health issues, so I don’t know if I will ever be able to travel overseas. I travel in Britain with the two of you and I see the most fabulous places! I can never express what that means to me. I thank you Kirsten for persevering as you have built this channel. I remember how shy Joerg seemed initially and it is so lovely how he has blossomed-it is WONDERFUL!! Thank You both for brightening my life with each and every post. These journeys with you two brings me more joy than any words could possibly express.
Thank you so much Janice, that means so much! I do hope that you will still be able to travel once the situation has improved. Wishing you all the best.x
It's really refreshing to hear someone being so open and honest with their moving abroad. And I can only imagine how it took you a lot of courage to leave your loving families and your former home. You are both an inspiration. Wishing you all the best in the future. 😊
I lived in Cornwall, UK for three years and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Living in another country is such a rewarding and eye-opening experience.
Although I've lived most of my life in Canada, I've also spent extended periods in the UK and in Germany. I agree with you about the differences. German people are so well organized and efficient. It is a treat to be in a place that runs like clockwork. On the other hand, the people of the UK are very warm and friendly and they are much more relaxed and humorous about enjoying life. Both places have good qualities. Glad that you are both happy about your decision to move to the UK.
Over the past 30 years I spent plenty of time in England since my partner was English. The Brits were friendly, polite, supportive and fair - and I liked their sense of humour. Thank you, GB!
I admire the way in which you came together, to weigh the pros and cons, in order to make the best decision for you as a couple. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your various tours, educational videos, and culinary adventures. I found your channel after losing my fiancé. It truly engrossed me and continues to do so as I grieve. We were both 48 when he passed, and now at 49, for what it’s worth, your content has inspired me to embark on some long-awaited adventures of my own. Even if you decide, as a couple, to return to Germany, I think you will return there more enriched and cultured having taken advantage of a once in a lifetime offer. As a history graduate with a minor in sociology, it has been a dream of mine to tour Germany, Poland, England, as well as a slew of other European countries. Needless to say, if you end up returning to Germany, I sure do hope you both continue creating such captivating content, as I am sure I am expressing the opinion of your audience majority here.😊
I think the fact that you lived abroad as children helped you be brave enough to leave Germany and settle in Britain as adults. So interesting to hear your stories. I knew you had lived in Egypt, but didn't realise Joerg had lived Down Under!
Dear Kirsten and Joerg : Happy New Year! It is so soothing to hear you talking and tell us your life story. You two are an example of harmony two persons can be. As a first generation of Chinese immigrant living in America I like your topic of today and some of your feelings touch me so much and it moved me to tears. Cheers to our wonderful life experiences. Waiting to see more videos from you in 2022!
Only found you at the end of last year so catching up with you. I loved the video and was warmed to hear you find yourselves welcome here. My grandmother lost family in both world wars and my mother was a small child in the 2nd world war which had a profound affect on them both. Then in the 1980s we had a student exchange at school with German students. I remember my mother saying it was important to welcome them as both the English and German people suffered during the war and I was to be respectful towards them. I will never forget her words of compassion when talking about events that had happened in both countries. We have visited Germany several times and have always received a warm welcome and I’m so glad you have as well. Thank you for sharing this. X
Thank you so much! I'm so happy you had an exchange student from Germany, none of us here approve of what happened and can only make sure things like that never happen again. We once visited South Africa and went to Robben Island which had a huge impact on us because we were shown around by an amazing guy who was imprisoned at the same time as Mandela. We thought he must hate white people so much but he didn't and said forgiveness and raising awareness is so important, especially as the generations after that weren't the initiators if you know what I mean. We have to make sure to never forget the past and don't erase it so things don't happen again. Sending you so much love.xx
@@KirstenJoerg we’ve been to Robben island and had a similar experience. The guide thanked us for everything we had done to help SA through apartheid. I felt so embarrassed as Margaret Thatcher, our then prime minister during that time was more supportive of the white administration! It always amazes us how people see things so differently. Thank you Kirsten, you too. Keep putting those videos out.
Dear Kirsten and Joerg. Thank you for sharing your stories. My husband and I had the opportunity to live in London for 5 years and I can related to many of what you've gone through. I couldn't agree with you more that despite some inevitable downsides, It's a wonderful experience. We loved every minute living in London and took advantage of the proximity to explore many beautiful places in UK, and Europe. It is very clever and admirable of you to turn your experience into what you share with us on your RUclips channel. Best wishes to you both in 2022 and look forward to seeing more of your adventures in UK. BTW, Kirsten, I think you have a lovely & authentic British accent, is it from your Cambridge years 😉
Thank you. That is such a lovely story, very warming to hear. In the 1960s My father and I visited berchtesgaden, as my sister was working there. My father and I were overwhelmed by the friendly helpful people, on the streets, in the shop, biergarten, and the bed and breakfast we stayed. Such laughter we had with little language on both sides we all laughed the more. My father brought a German hat and never wore another hat for years and years. The memories will always remain as the more welcoming place I’ve ever visited in such a short time.
I can identify with this video so much. I lived in Norway twice - each time for three years - due to my husband’s job. My children were born there which was a challenge because i had no family network but you soon make friends and that really helped. The second time the opportunity came round we decided to take it again uprooting the children from their schools in the UK - believe me that was not an easy choice but I never ever regretted it. They went to an International school and made friends from all different cultures. We all have wonderful memories of this time, especially my children. My dad even conquered his fear of flying and came to stay and I’m so pleased that he experienced this beautiful country too. I would say if anyone is offered the opportunity to live abroad take it!
I so understand! When I went to school in Egypt, I became friends with people from all over the world (we are friends to this day) and it was the best experience ever and made me the person I am today.
I think you are such a lovely couple. I am born and bred in England and have visited Germany and I love your country. It's so nice to hear your honest account of the UK. If you ever return to Germany I would totally understand because of your family, but you would be deeply missed ☺️
I just found this video today and made feel so homesick 😢. I come from a different country- Mexico 🇲🇽- to live with my English husband . I left children and grandchildren, relatives, house behind, It was like a second chance to start all over again. I don’t regret and we have thought to go back to Mexico when we retire because we rent a nice property but it’s not ours. Everything is so expensive now. However it’s a nice experience and this country is absolutely gorgeous too. God bless you !
Lovely talk and so honest. I use to go every year in England, not since 2019 of course. Just rent a cottage in Suffolk next May. So happy to go back. And it is true the British are very very friendly. Brexit was a very sad result of manipulation by BJ. But now we will just take our passport and still enjoy the great countryside and country homes. I love your videos. Relaxing and charming. All the best for 2022. You are the best loved German couple on internet. Love from Belgium
@@Blue24Osprey The terrible mistake was joining the Common Market and finding it was all a deception as it was about being taken over by those who had their own interests at heart and not that of the British people. We lost our identity to the RU..
Yes... Being ruled by a sentient turnip who brushes his hair with a toffee apple was an absolute bloody disaster... 🙄 The quicker we are part of the EU again - if you ever let us back in of course - the better in my opinion. 🇬🇧🇧🇪🇪🇺🇩🇪
Happy New Year..so nice to see you both. Been a long two weeks! So glad you feel settled in our beautiful England. Also glad we get to see parts of Germany too..so beautiful there too. I moved to the US 25 years ago (to marry US hubby) thinking it would be the same as the U.K! It was a total culture shock. To be honest I have regretted the move so much and have missed my UK family and country immensely. Have had one Christmas in the U.K. in 25 years and was there about 3 years ago..I’m grateful to have met my hubby but mentally it’s been a daily struggle especially for last 16 years or so. If kids were much younger and hubby could get a job in U.K. I think we would have definitely moved back, but I keep telling myself to “bloom where I’m planted”! And to keep watching your wonderful vlogs, which truly are a blessing for so many, especially us expats. Can’t wait to travel with you in 2022. Thank you
Thanks so much Gill, all the best for 2022 to you too! I can totally understand, I remember when we were handed out leaflets when I went to uni in England showing the different stages of culture shock. It can be very overwhelming. I so hope you can visit the UK again so as I understand how much you miss it and your family.
Oh Gill, I so understand what you wrote. I left the UK in 1988 for Western Canada. My husband (now ex) is Canadian and wanted to return home. I never could have believed that I would live over 30 years in Canada and, to be honest, I have always regretted the move. I have only returned twice during this time, as well. However, my children are now grown and two out of the three are either already in the UK or moving soon. Finally, I will be returning this year. I have missed my family horribly and my heart goes out to you xox
Gill, I think you are a very wise and spiritual woman, founding sense to every day in the known that "we must bloom where we are planted", because seeing life and world, we must accept that some times, it is like that. I apologize for my english, I hope you understand the sense and found even more joy in your path because of your faith. It was good to me, and maybe for many people, to read your so honest thinkings, they bring light to our own expiriences. Thank you very much and Blessings for this new year 2022! Cheers!
@@KirstenJoerg Gill, I understand but for me its the other way around. I'm American who moved to the UK and I struggle, with the low pay, lack of friendly people, most I've met just interested in getting pissed after work or uninterested in nice worldly talk. All my family is back home in the USA but I love my husband so here I am. I hope to become settled at some point. Here nearly 2 years
@@daniellereid01 I know how you feel. I lived in the USA for 8 years and although it was interesting to see a different country my goodness I pined for the uk every day. Thankfully we returned back. Uk isn't perfect, it has many problems but it's home and the best place for me.
Best wishes for 2022. I’m so happy to hear that you are happy here! My father always says that life is just a long weekend and we have to make the most of it and that what you’ve done. I’m looking forward to seeing where your adventures take you this year and I love your Germany videos so that will be a treat. I’m so glad your channel has been a success and the subscriber numbers are rising, I think you will hit 100k soon 😁 Thanks as always for an interesting and entertaining video.
Thank you so so much Sylvia and just the very best for 2022 to you as well. I do love the thought about a long weekend, I think your father is so right.x
It’s so lovely to have my lovely German friends back, I was getting worried, you are two of the nicest human beings on You Tube and I love you both, this was a great vlog, so honest, I want to wish you both a very Happy New Year, please don’t leave us just yet I know it’s selfish of me but you two are helping me get through this awful pandemic, you show us such interesting places I love everywhere you go and you take me with you, your lovely music and calm natures are like a soothing balm, I’m going on a bit so I’ll just send my love xxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I really enjoy your stories. We are Brits living in Germany and your comparisons of Germans living in the UK, we experience similar differences as Brits living in Germany. This is our home but we are Brits at heart and to be honest, I would like to move back. We have been here for over 40 years but all our family is in the UK and I feel the need to be closer to them.
You can be proud of your new life in the UK. You have a great RUclips channel with the best followers ! I will continue to follow your adventures this year ! I wish you the best for 2022 !
Hi Kirsten and Joerg So good to hear the reality of moving abroad, I am English but have lived in Australia most of my life but dream of coming to live in England for a little while. But I would miss my kids way too much and ther last couple of years would have been terrible with the pandemic, especially as Australia closed international travel until recently. We couldn't leave or come back freely. But I do love the UK, like you say the people are so friendly and welcoming. And the countryside is beautiful.. Thank you for your lovely video, all your videos are wonderfully unique, they make me feel like I'm there too. All the best, Kind regards Deana 😊
I love your videos, your relationship, your style and travels. I am a natural Texan, but after hearing "y'all" describe a German, then I realized, what a small world. I could fit your description, always improving, organizing...lol. I remain a fan, for years now. Keep of the great videos. Have a blessed year, from Texas-USA.
Hello Kirsten and Joerg I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love your channel! You two seem like such wonderfully kind humans. Your content is so interesting and entertaining and I thank you. I'll share just a few thoughts as I sit here reflecting on this last year. I currently live in a small town in Ohio. I lived away, in another state for several years but I moved home as my parents were getting on in years and I wanted to be close to family again. My dear father just died on Christmas Eve and we burried him on New Years Eve on what would have been his 80th Birthday. For me personally, I am so glad I was around these last few years and got to spend quality time with my parents. Happiness is paramount and family is everything. When I was younger I wanted to travel and live all over the world but as I'm in my fiftys now, I prefer being close to home. I still travel but home is where my heart lies. Happy New Year to you both! May it be a year filled with love, laughter and many blessings. My best, Lisa G.
Thank you so much Lisa and we are so sorry to hear about your loss. I can absolutely understand that. I LOVE my parents so much and try to see them as often as I can and when I visit now, I spent so much time with them but I always have which is good.
Watch you guys from Carmel Hamlet, NY and… enjoy your channel SO much! I’m so glad you’ll decided to be adventurous and try something new. I’ve loved every video you and Joerg put out. The beautiful English countryside and phenomenal photography brings a little bit of the UK to us across the pond. It’s enormously enjoyable to sit down with a cup of tea and watch … So, thank you! Looking forward to many more videos of the UK and Germany, too 💕
Hello Kirsten and Jörg, I am German and have always been a kind of anglophile person. That´s why I´m so grateful for your wonderful videos every week and the generous way you take everybody along to your trips and beautiful home! Ein gesundes und fröhliches neues Jahr für euch!
Happy New Year to you both. I'm biased, but I think Britain has a lot to offer, not least it is small enough to get around. It's lovely that you feel at home here. Here's to 2022 and all the good things it will bring. Blessings!
You are so insightful on the difference in people born in other cultures. I give it little thought until I was was able to travel outside my middle American state. My grandfather came to state of Iowa from near Howard Castle at 21 where he was a farmer worker [Whitwell on the Hill]. I do love that area, visited my relatives in 1987. Near where I grew up, a German group lived in the Amana Colonies, having come to US for religious freedom. They were Pietists, coming first to Northern New York in 1843-44, then to state of Iowa in 1855. It was one of longest-lived communal societies, which became a profit-sharing corporation in 1932. I'm 80 so the children my age still had no English until they started school and reattended their German accent. I do love your Vlog so do keep sharing your life with us.
So much of English history-- aaaaaall the way back-- is linked to German history. There's no England without Germany, despite the appalling modern mess of war. It makes perfect sense that you feel comfortable and welcome in the UK. I love to hear about other people's happiness, success and gratitude. It creates a really reciprocal lovely, inclusive and welcoming new space in the universe.
I would say you are responsible adventures and you have been so kind to share your travels and experiences with us. I love the UK culture and beautiful countryside and live in California so I enjoy your travels so much. Great and good blessings to you both for 2022!
Hiya Kirsten and Joerg, hope you had a smashing Christmas break, good to see you back, I will always be grateful for the strange RUclips algorithm that popped you into my suggestions, as I've enjoyed immensely your vlogs and the wonderful community that follow you. So looking forward to seeing in this fresh new year of 2022 (hasn't 2021 gone by so fast 🤯). I'm so glad you're both happy living in the UK, no country is perfect, but I love England and it's a privilege to live here.
Happy new year to you both, your vlogs are a delight. My partner and I live in Wales and never miss any of your videos, it is good to know that such nice people have decided to take a chance on us here in the UK!
LG 🙋♀️
Happy New Year Kirsten and Joerg! Having lived in France for several years I understand how hard it is and how much I missed family. However, that experience has always been a part of my life and has really made me who I am today. I would do it again if I were younger. Living in other cultures is a great learning experience and you learn to appreciate your own country.Have a great 2022!
Thanks so much Despina and all the best for 2022! I can so relate, the experience of having lived in Egypt had such an impact on me as a teenager, it's one of the reasons why we ended up in England.
@@KirstenJoerg thank you for all you share. Would you consider a trip to Norwich Castle museum to see the collection of over 2 thousand teapots? Twinnings tea bought the collection and now it displays at Norwich. Please??
I'm so glad to see you both again. I would love to visit England, and Germany. I have relatives that lived in Germany. I have never traveled abroad before. Great to see you again. Always enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing you both again.
Dear Kisten & Joërg, you do not know how I have enjoyed this long-awaited new video! It is what you have already told other times, but the tone is more intimate, more personal and trusting. It is like the tone of some friends and that is how those of us who follow you receive it precisely because of the honesty of the content you upload, travels, recipes, decoration, (wich I love because I like very much victorian style), or simply pieces of your not so simple life! I enjoy everything! Thank you so much! I apologize for my english, sometimes, i need the translator, but even this part is beautiful for me: I learn so much listening you both! Your clear and slow (in a good sense) pronunciation, is a source of aprentice that makes me seek words and learn more. Please let us continue sharing your life in Uk, cooking experiments and the joy that brings each chapter. (some day I hope to see a tiny beatiful hanging garden through the doors behind you dinner table..and maybe a little dog!) Thank you again! Take care. From Córdoba, Argentina, ¡Blessings for the New Year 2022!
Happy New Year 2022 for you both and your family in Germany. I wish you all a very good health and to be always happy in England and everywhere. I agree with all what you have said in your video. As my husband often says the essential is to be together, have a good health and be happy.
THIS WAS GREAT!! Thank you, I really enjoyed this video! I applaud you both for taking the risk in moving to a new country. (I moved to Dublin, Ireland for a year, kept a flat, travelled the country and the UK, and even worked for a short duration. An incredible, life changing experience that I too, highly recommend! Everything about Ireland is truly magical.) Thank you for reflecting on your past and present, for recognizing the changes within you and your individuality, and for being transparent. I sincerely appreciate when people are down-to-earth and willing to be honest, open and authentic. (Just like you are on RUclips.) Jöerg, I do agree that there is a sacrifice when moving to another country, you do leave something behind, (for me, it was my family), but having said that, yes, you do gain SO MUCH! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts in this video. Well done you two. 💞 Xo Xo
Good morning, I am currently watching your latest vlog. I haven't moved countries but "Stepping out of my comfort zone" I certainly did! After 27 years of owning my own business, well 30th Dec 2021, I handed over the keys to my business and said hello to freedom of choice on what to do for the rest of my life! After pondering about it for years. I have done it and feel energised. Today's vlog gave me, inspiration, comfort and a reminder that being brave and going forward, putting dreams into action can be so rewarding. Thank you x
You two are so honest and charming. I appreciate your insights. I must say, way back in 1972 I moved from Chicago in the U.S. to Paris. I thought at the time that people all over the world were just the same, just speaking different languages. How wrong I was. It took me a while to figure things out, but eventually I did realize that for all of the things we have in common, there will always be differences. Those differences are just fine. They make us who we are. I have enjoyed your insights. The main thing is to look at where we can connect with one another.
Gracias Kirsten y Joerg! Yo soy argentina, y soy abuela.

Well, I for one, love the fact that you took the chance and moved to England! I might never have found you otherwise . You have an energy, and a dynamic, that a lot of English presenters just do not have. I love your videos because of this. I could watch, and watch, and watch, the both of you talking, and exploring, all day long! I think you are both wonderful, and brave for making the move. I adore the both of you so much. Thank you for your Videos, I really enjoy the cooking videos. Much love from America.
Lovely to have tea with you this morning. I am so happy that the two of you share your experience abroad, since some of us may never get there. I have a friend here in town, Okanagan Valley(Canada)and it takes her 12-14 hours, depending on the season, to visit her son and his family. Canada is a very large country! My brother lives in Quebec, I am in BC...we rarely get to see each other because it is just too far. I am glad that even though you are in a different country than your parents, it's still relatively close for you. I just had the thought that one day you won't be doing YT...what a sad day that will be. Life is sure to give us all ups and downs, opportunities to grow and change, and memories that we can cherish forever. Bless you Kirsten and Joerg, I hope 2022 is a year of dreams fulfilled and wonderous, wandering adventures! 😘😘
Hi Debra. I have friends who lived in Kelowna but have very recently moved to Westwold. I've been lucky enough to visit Canada a few times, such a beautiful country.
@@annr6495Hello Ann...I have a friend who spent some childhood years in Westwold. I was born in Chilliwack, went to Germany for 3 years, back to Chilliwack, spent 5 years in Quebec City, and have been in Kelowna since 1973. Indeed Canada truly is a beautiful country, with lakes, ocean towns, mountain paradise, etc., there is such a diverse and varied topography. Where did you visit in Canada? where are you from? living now? 🤔😃
@@debrap947 I'm British and live in Yorkshire. I have visited my friends in BC so have been to Kelowna, Vancouver, Lake Louise, Banff. I've also been to the other side and visited Toronto and Niagara Falls.
@@annr6495 So you have seen some of the best Canada has to offer! 😉 The old fortified city of Vieux Quebec, near Quebec city, is a must if you ever make it back, a beautiful historic city just minutes away from the schools I went to. I am hoping one day to get over to the UK, it would be fun to trace the steps of my ancestors in England, Scotland, and Ireland.
Happy New Year to you both! What an adventure and glad you took the opportunity to live outside of your home country! I grew up in a family who travelled a lot (my father was in the US Air Force) and had lived mostly in Europe (the UK, Germany, and Italy). I'm so grateful to have had the chance to live in other countries and still feel like a nomad. I totally understand when you say 'it's in our blood!' When my husband and I had a chance to live abroad, we jumped at the chance, living overseas for almost 10 years. We had complete reverse culture shock upon returning to the US. Now it is 8 years later, and we're starting to get 'itchy' feet again. We'd love another opportunity to travel, but have older parents now and it has changed our priorities. I encourage everyone to get out of their comfort zone at least once in their lives, you never know what wonderful memories you will make and experience!
Thank you so much and the very same to you! Yes, that sounds very familiar, it's good to see and experience other countries and cultures, it gives you so much understanding and also makes you very open.
Very interesting watching your video today. My daughter bought a flat and lives in Berlin so I understand buying and selling property in Germany is very different. She was unable to be with us in the UK for Christmas. I can relate to lots of what you said about the differences between our countries. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. Sorry to hear Brexit has been a trial, but you both seem to take it in stride. I really love your channel. So nice to see a married couple treating each other with respect and warmth. Have a happy 2022! -Leslie
Here I was thinking that I was exhibiting Virgo traits of fastidiousness and personal critique only to find out it’s my German ancestors 🤣🤣🤣🤣 On a serious note, this is a great video with a lot of practical considerations for anyone thinking about moving abroad. Also the attic looks WONDERFUL ✨I think your success as a channel is partly because you cover a specific niche of Anglo German history, travel, and architectural interests but more importantly because you are very genuine, really good hearted people.
That is so funny you mention traits bc I too thought being a Virgo also was part of being a perfectionist. I’m German from both side of parents. So when Kirsten and Joerg explained how they were always examining their work or themselves and what could do better it certainly hit home for me! 😁
When I was shopping in Berlin with my mom, I was yelled at by a man because I picked up a wicker basket that he wanted to buy! So I just let him have it and walked away. Britains are friendlier in my experience, as well as helpful. I love English country decor. It’s my favorite. I adore your home and the way you guys furnished it. I’m glad I got to know you through your vlogs. You probably wouldn’t have been on You Tube if you hadn’t moved to England.❤️❤️
Oh we can only say that luckily not all Germans are like that. We are German and would never behave like that (what you experienced could also happen in the UK; it's just the a bad experience sticks with you).
Yes! Yes! Please do more videos on your beautiful, comfortable house!! I love your channel, and even though I don't watch every episode the day it appears, I catch up the next day and absolutely make an event of it: I make my tea, set my tea service, sit in my cozy chair (with the toile de jouy cover), and I just *sink into the moment* with you two. :) It is beautiful. Incidentally, my husband and I are Americans living in the UK and we face many of the same challenges that you do---leaving family and having to sell our lovely house, missing the little things (and the big things!), but overall feeling as though it was the absolute right thing for us. We are in the process of returning to the US after 3 years, but it was 100% worth it. (We would do it again in a heartbeat!) Thank you for your channel, thank you for your joy, thank you for being such quality people. Vielen vielen Dank!
Kirsten, I think it is so sweet that you are that close to your parents and speak to them that frequently! I know that moving abroad was most difficult because of leaving your family. I didn't realise it was just a two hour flight. So much nicer than the 10 hour flight that Ian has between him and his mum!
Great video. I have a couple of German friends that moved to the UK and settled their immigration status, got married to British people and all that sort of thing. The good thing is you can fly into Berlin in 2 hours. As a matter of fact, I made a German friend on the plane on one trip Berlin and he works in the UK but returns to Frankfurt most weekends. It seems a bit much to me, but he's happy doing it. On the other hand, my childhood friend went skiing to Switzerland, broke his leg and ended up staying there. He's been there 25 years now, married a Swiss lady and brought up a family, but still returns to the UK occasionally to see his family and friends. I think it's great people can do that. I'm not sure I could cope with living in a very warm place like Spain, though, but thousands of Brits do.
So glad you are back. I missed you. Best for the New Year, and let’s hope you can reunite with your family next Christmas. I know how important family is. My husband and I lost our parents some years ago and our only daughter lives in NYC so we have to travel to see one another. Enjoy them when you can, and as often as possible.
Hi, I have been following your videos for a while now, as I am a cottage lover. I am Mexican, and grew in a home which was decorated British in the masculine part, and French in the feminine. Both my parents (my dad passed this year due to Covid, sadly), and me, we adore cottages. My parents built one for each of my sibling and me, in a British style, which I love with all my heart, but I left Mexico and live now in Canada. What has been most difficult for me is houses! Homes here are not as beautiful as in Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, etc… Sometimes I wonder if I moved to the wrong country… but then I see nature here, and people, and know I am where I wanted to be. Take care!
Kirsten & Joerg. What a wonderful chat over tea. We really enjoyed your thoughts and feelings. We are so glade we found you and always look forward to your videos. I defenitly can see and feel your passion. Dovie and I love the U.K. and we really love your trips and appreciate you and Joerg taking us along on your adventures. We are looking forward to more of the same in the coming year and hope you two have a happy New year. Cheers Ron & Dovie
Dear Kirsten and Joerg, Selling a well-loved house and moving to a different country is a very big thing, you both were very brave. I think you did the right thing to sell your house in Germany because when someone buys a house, they take good care of it. The property market is insane here in Dublin too, the prices are extremely high. I wish you both a happy healthy New Year, and a happy New Year to your subscribers also, you have a very nice community of followers. ❤ Edit; will you please tell me the name and brand of the blue paint in that lovely room, and the name and brand of the green paint in your snug? Both are beautiful.
Thank you so much Laura! Oh yes, we heard that houses in Dublin are so expensive as well. Of course, the colour in our snug in 'Pomona' from Edward Bulmer and our attic room is 'Lulworth Blue' from Farrow & Ball.x
I think no matter where you live life is made better by having a passion that fills you with energy and motivation to keep learning and doing. Yes, big decisions in life require sacrificing something while gaining another thing. It is remarkable that the two of you are so well matched.
Happy New Year! I must say you both look extremely well and relaxed, the break must have done you good. Your channel has inspired myself and my family to explore the uk, we have a place in rural France and travel there as much as we can but we have never really explored England so this year we are going to James Herriot country (Yorkshire Dales) and it’s all down to watching you go to various places around the UK. It’s also really nice to hear praise for England, majority of the population are very welcoming and we do like a chat with strangers in the supermarket or anywhere else come to that, we’re not being nosey just passing the time of day. I hope you continue to enjoy the uk and also continue to film your very enjoyable vlogs in 2022, I love your Englishness and hope you continue to feel at home here and stay for a long time. 💕
My family emigrated here (Western Australia) from England when I was a child in the 60s. It was terribly hard. My mother was so homesick. They didn't even have a telephone to talk to family at home and letters took weeks to arrive. So much easier these days. I love your videos. Thank you.
another thing you can be so proud and happy about is that you are giving your subscribers so much pleasure, sharing your travels. It was meant to be. Please keep it up!!!!
Dear Kirsten and Joerg, Happy 2022! My husband and I just watched your informative and interesting video about your move to the UK..we agree that trying something new and different in your life can be a growing experience.. nothing ventured, nothing gained! Thank you for sharing and we are so happy to have found you! Looking forward to this New Years adventures from your life in UK, and Germany too!! ❤️❤️☺️
I adore your channel! The color blue you chose for that room is absolutely gorgeous. I really enjoy seeing what you are doing to your house and look forward to more in 2022. The vicarious travel is also lovely. And I really enjoy your cooking videos!
We are glad that feel at home here, we enjoyed watching you through Lockdown and you helped us through it. We are looking forward to more adventures in 2022. All the best for the future. Martin and Carol. .
I really enjoyed this discussion on sharing your experience and your feelings on leaving your home country and relocating in the UK. I found it interesting on some of the differences between each. Kirsten you are a very good communicator and Joerg if delightful! Thanks
I've moved a LOT over my life so I understand. The downside is I never "feel at home" anywhere but it's a tradeoff and I've had a very interesting life and would not trade lives like my sisters or cousins staying in the same place all their lives. So I will follow you as long as you are doing the vlogs and you want to share your experiences.
Hello lovely people! How nice to see you and your positive energy! I do feel your experience with moving from own country and absolutely agree with all your points! If I may add I just love quality of your channel - you are so natural and very friendly. Please keep going this way and of course I can't wait for your adventures in travelling! All the best in New Year!
Very interesting to hear the story of how you came to live in England and your reflections on what’s been lost & gained. I share your love for English country homes & quaint English villages, and look forward to visiting England when the opportunity arises. I’m from Florida and have always enjoyed traveling to NEW England where there are similarities in architecture and interior design. I’m glad you are happy in England and will be continuing the RUclips channel. I look forward to your adventures in 2022! Happy New Year!
Like the blue back ground....very calming...good choice....same with me I lived in Canada for five years, Florida 30years and Sudan 2 years.....we are looking forward decorating our Victorian..house..like you..
You have been such a blessing and joy in my life! Thank you for the gift of sharing your life and for giving me a good day when I've had a bad one. You always make me feel better and for that I am eternally grateful! I wanted to add ... you both look amazing!
It is wonderful to see you both after your break. Happy New Year. My husbands maternal family are Germans and we still have family there. It has been a great sadness that we haven’t been able to visit during the pandemic. We understand your feelings about your inability to visit family and friends. Let’s hope that soon the freedom to travel will become easier. It’s good to understand you feel you have made a new home in the UK. Your home is beautiful. You both embody all that is wonderful about celebrating Britishness. It’s great to know that we will share more time together in 2022. Continue being yourselves. Thank you for your continued commitment.
That was a lovely, lovely honest conversation and very much appreciated. Us viewers feel that we really know you now. I lived in Germany for a year and I know that everything you do and make is of the highest standard and this is reflected in your videos which I enjoy so much. You have been an inspiration as your home is truly beautiful and you visit the most amazing locations. Keep up your sterling work. Mrs K.
Oh my goodness, Kirsten and Joerg, thank you, thank you for your sharing with us. I really just ‘found’ you about a month ago, so your story is still unfolding for me as I continually acquaint myself with yet another and another post. But to date let me just say you are both such a remarkably engaging couple and as individuals equally unique and wondrous! I congratulate you both on your willingness to explore your lives and expand your horizons;please keep sharing your marvelous adventures. Love from sunny California
Thank you Kirsten and Joerg, it was a very good idea of yours to choose this topic because I'd imagine many people will be thinking of doing the same and it's always a huge challenge to leave your home, your family, your friends and also not knowing what lies ahead. It's good to hear that you feel very comfortable and happy living in the UK, even though you miss your family and that the British people you meet have accepted you and make you feel welcome. Happy New Year to you too, let's hope that Covid will cease to exist very soon and you'll be able to get back to what you do so well, I cant' wait to see your vlogs again of your travels around beautiful Britain. As you may remember, I'm a frustrated English man living in Australia who wishes to return to the UK. Watching your vlogs gives me some guidance as to where to settle once I'm able to make the move. Take care John & Liping
So lovely listening to your take on national identities. I used to have German neighbours and them getting used to our sense of humour took a while! Loved those quiet respectful orderly people!
Lovely to have seen that you had good times in England, and enjoyed your vlogs. I used to live in Ober Bayern for some 7 years (German Alps) which was really beautiful. My original home was Yorkshire where I am now. I then wrote a book for myself and relatives of my travels and adventures from my hitch-hiking down to Bavaria in 75. and life subsequently.
Happy New Year! You two are both very sensible, grounded. You know how and when to "recharge your batteries" or "take private times for yourself, your marriage." Much love and blessings to both! I ALWAYS LOVE your vlogs, but understand it is to be an enjoyable experience for you both, as well as for your "vlog guests"...while living a real, full life!
I was thinking about you both today and missing your videos and here you are. It is so good to know you were welcomed to our country. I think your success (aside from hard work) is your warmth and genuine kindness. People really like you both. On top of that it is interesting to see your journey and the house development is my favourite. Happy New Year 🎉
Thank you for the extensive acquaintance with your life in a new environment ... the magnificence of your travels and the optimism of knowing the World.
It's so hard for me to image Kirsten that you are German because of your definite English accent. This is a very informative video. Thank you! I love your dress and that wonderful hair color that is so fetching on you. Joerg, you are an adorable Man!
You are living my dream. I truly hope to achive that one day soon, particulary in UK also. If you found it all that good coming from Germany, imagine what someone coming from Brazil would find it like. Your videos are always an inspiration for me.
Kirsten and Joerg, Happy and a healthy New Year to you both🍾🥂....I’ve lived abroad before and loved it, if the opportunity ever comes by again I would embrace it. You learn and grow so much when you are in a different country and culture. Love you guys 😘 Love your bar cart in the back ground.
I absolutely love this video! Please have more of these chats. I really do appreciate your point of view on things. How about doing a "fireside chat" by your wood burner??? Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us! So inspiring and motivating! xx
This was a lovely chat. I absolutely know what differences you speak of... since my Father and his parents were from Germany. I know we are all appreciative of the time and effort you put into this most excellent channel.... it's my absolute favorite 💓
Thank you so much, that's so very kind.
Agreed. Their honesty is refreshing
Happy New Year Nancy! Thank you so much, that means so much to us.
BTW, Kirsten, I think you have a lovely & authentic British accent, is it from your Cambridge years
😉
This is so beautiful to hear, thank you so so much for sharing. Berchtesgarden is such a wonderful part of Germany.
This is wonderful. Which international schools did you opt for in Oslo?
I think you are such a lovely couple. I am born and bred in England and have visited Germany and I love your country. It's so nice to hear your honest account of the UK. If you ever return to Germany I would totally understand because of your family, but you would be deeply missed ☺️
You both are adorable! And like Mary Poppins, practically perfect :)
Yes, as a Remainer, I often think leaving the EU may have been a terrible mistake. I am glad you still visit.
The quicker we are part of the EU again - if you ever let us back in of course - the better in my opinion.
Here nearly 2 years
@@daniellereid01
I know how you feel.
Your honesty and sweetness is very refreshing, thank you for your beautiful videos ❤
Hi Kirsten and Joerg
So good to hear the reality of moving abroad, I am English but have lived in Australia most of my life but dream of coming to live in England for a little while.
All the best,
Kind regards
Deana 😊
I love your videos, your relationship, your style and travels. I am a natural Texan, but after hearing "y'all" describe a German, then I realized, what a small world. I could fit your description, always improving, organizing...lol. I remain a fan, for years now. Keep of the great videos. Have a blessed year, from Texas-USA.
Hello Kirsten and Joerg
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love your channel!
It’s enormously enjoyable to sit down with a cup of tea and watch …
So, thank you! Looking forward to many more videos of the UK and Germany, too 💕
Hello Kirsten and Jörg, I am German and have always been a kind of anglophile person.
That´s why I´m so grateful for your wonderful videos every week and the generous way you
take everybody along to your trips and beautiful home!
You both sound English,...completely,..it is nice to travel,..it makes you appreciate life..broadens your mind...glad you ended up in England..
Thank you so so much! Wishing you all the best for 2022!
Happy new year to you both, your vlogs are a delight. My partner and I live in Wales and never miss any of your videos, it is good to know that such nice people have decided to take a chance on us here in the UK!
Happy New Year to both of you. I'm so happy to know that you feel welcome in the UK. You are lovely people and your videos are absolutely charming xx
Thanks so much Susen!
Everything about Ireland is truly magical.)
Thank you for reflecting on your past and present, for recognizing the changes within you and your individuality, and for being transparent. I sincerely appreciate when people are down-to-earth and willing to be honest, open and authentic. (Just like you are on RUclips.)
Jöerg, I do agree that there is a sacrifice when moving to another country, you do leave something behind, (for me, it was my family), but having said that, yes, you do gain SO MUCH!
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts in this video. Well done you two. 💞 Xo Xo
Thank you so much Susan! So great to hear about your experience, it really changes you.
@@KirstenJoerg
Oh yes, living and travelling in another country is life changing. Such a valuable experience. XO
Thank you x
As an Italian moved to the UK in 2012 I 100% agree on all that you covered, bicycle riding first of all, roads here are so narrow!
This is EXACTLY why I enjoy you both and your videos so much! Your honesty, your openness and your genuine willingness to share. Thank you both!!!
I from Poland and was Au-pair Mädchen in Hannover, and meet my french husband in Hannover at school. From Germany we moved to Huston, after Huston we moved to Norway. After 4 years in Norway we moved to Paris area. Loved my all experiences abroad, change me a lot in the good way 😉I missing Norway a lot. Will also loved to moved for a while to UK. Happy New Year 2022 🎉
Happy New Year!! Thank you for this video Kristen and Joerg. I'm Spanish and moving to UK is my life long dream and your tips are really useful although I feel a bit depressed with Brexit, I'm afraid it will be more difficult than before to achieve my dream... 🥺 Anyway, thank you to show us those amazing places from Uk and Germany, I really appreciate. Hope you keep doing so great job in 2022. Love from us xxx 😘😘🌹

-Leslie
Here I was thinking that I was exhibiting Virgo traits of fastidiousness and personal critique only to find out it’s my German ancestors 🤣🤣🤣🤣
On a serious note, this is a great video with a lot of practical considerations for anyone thinking about moving abroad.
@@MarshaMarsha885 German Virgos unite!!! Although I’m a lot more than German. I call myself a mutt😅
Awww hahah! Thanks so much Elizabeth, we appreciate that so much!x
@@elizabethanne8729 in Australian slang, we of mixed heritage are called "bitza" ...bits of this and bits of that 🤣.
Not all Germans are like the man you meet. 😉
I promise!
Thanks so much! Yes, I think you don’t really settle into another country if you go back to your country of origin most weekends.
So welcome to have you here. Hope you love it and stay❤
Thank you!! 😊
Take care!

We are looking forward to more of the same in the coming year and hope you two have a happy New year. Cheers Ron & Dovie
Thank you so so much Ronald & Dovie!
Edit; will you please tell me the name and brand of the blue paint in that lovely room, and the name and brand of the green paint in your snug? Both are beautiful.
Thank you so much Laura! Oh yes, we heard that houses in Dublin are so expensive as well. Of course, the colour in our snug in 'Pomona' from Edward Bulmer and our attic room is 'Lulworth Blue' from Farrow & Ball.x
Thank you Laura and Happy and Healthy New Year to you too!! 🌹🥰
Thanks so much Gina, Happy New Year to you too! You will absolutely LOVE the Yorkshire, it's one of our favourites places.
My family emigrated here (Western Australia) from England when I was a child in the 60s. It was terribly hard. My mother was so homesick. They didn't even have a telephone to talk to family at home and letters took weeks to arrive. So much easier these days.
I love your videos. Thank you.
I can imagine, there was no internet when we lived in Egypt and it made things a lot harder than nowadays.
another thing you can be so proud and happy about is that you are giving your subscribers so much pleasure, sharing your travels. It was meant to be. Please keep it up!!!!

Guten Abend ihr beiden. Noch ein gutes neues Jahr! 🥂🍾🎇 Bleibt gesund und passt gut auf euch auf. LG von Annette.

So nice to hear! We lived in Oberbayern (Rosenheim) for a while too, we simply love the area.
