Actually from the recent interviews by PM Lee and Wong, they already know what the citizens young and not so young want now - which is beyond the material things that he is talking about. Life is multi faceted and you can’t really compare last time and now just purely on material things. When I started working decades ago, we don’t have the technology but neither do we have the long hours and mental health issues like depression which are unheard of back then. PM Wong had announced a massive mental health program this year and all companies now must have flexi work options. Young people now have to deal with a more troubled and complex world including climate change. Technology such as social media is also a double edged sword - which the government is also looking into right now. Last time a taxi driver or hawker can easily buy a flat and support a family with a single income. Now we have much higher double income but couples still worried about not being able to afford a flat and have babies. I can go on and on but what I will never do is to label the young generation as ungrateful whiners - which is what a lot of PAP supporters like to do. I don’t understand why these youngsters like those silly tictok videos but I do understand that they are on their own to fight those scientists and psychologists behind these technologies working on getting them addicted. This is the new world we are living now which is not better or worse than the old world.
The younger generation always used stress as a reason but their stress is trying to meet higher standard of living despite already having a better lifestyle. The older generation has to stress on day to day issues of how to support the family and how to survive just the basics of life. So, I do agree with what he says.
If Singapore had remained in Malaysia, we would not have the standard of living we are having now. It was a blessing we were kicked out of Malaysia and LKY, GCT, and LHL brought us from the 3rd world to the first world.
If singapore was not kicked out, LKY would have reformed the whole of Malaya into the largest maritime super power. That’s why the Sultans of the time wanted him out, he had the potential to be the most powerful non-malay leading a malay majority REGION.
To the nobility of that era, it was inconceivable to even allow the chance of that happening.
@@gamingrex2930thats abit overrated to own entire Malaysia. In terms of demographics LKY is a rebel leader being non-malay in Malay peninsular and sg majority chinese population is considered a rebel state. In 1965 he feels owning Singapore is lucky for him already. Please do think in normal circumstances Sg can easily be like Taiwan where the host nation wants to use force to take u back. Something LKY did was brilliant is not become Taiwan by repeatedly telling and proving to UN that sg is independent republic. Pulling connections with top leaders in major superpower Soviet, China, Britain and USA to do so. Chiang Kai Shek failed in this. Fortunately LKY was not greedy to want more territory. Your opinion is only possible if LKY is Malay ethnic stock. Malaysia could easily take the invasion stance in 1965-1967 if not for British Army stationed there. Thats another master chess move by LKY.
Actually besides more organized city, efficient public transport etc what else did singaporean enjoy that malaysian cannot enjoy?? What are the thing that only singaporean can get while malaysian cannot?
Judge two societies by not comparing which elite group is the most outstanding but by how they treat the sick and unfortunate.

Born later in Singapore no doubt has many advantages, for one it give me the rights to whine constantly about outside hot climate while living under a cool building built by our pioneer generation under sweltering heat.

When you are born earlier or latter has no difference. In either timing there are advantages and disadvantages. It is not for us to fix when we are to be born but when you are there what should you do? It is a constant adjustments for each one of us in the era they are in. Expectations must balance with reality. Opportunity are always there . Complaining what is around with your time could be well used to find the solutions out. History is forever changing, good and bad do happen but yet we survived because we find a way out to survive. This mentality must continue to lead us to the future. Going backwards may not be a bad things but it is hard and need readjustments. There is treasure and good things everywhere if you do not totally focus on the bad things but the good things inside the bad.
Of course, you know better than the Prime Minister of Singapore for the past 20 years! 🙄
