    Dear Friends,
Sutra Foundation in association with NSCBICC present ‘Royal Women, Royal Destiny: Female Perspective in Malay Court Narratives’, on 3rd May (Friday), 2024 at NSCB Indian Cutural Centre (ICC), 8pm conducted by Rabiatul Adawiyah (Ruby).
This illustrated lecture by researcher, Kelantan-born Ruby, promises to be an insightful expose of the fate of Malay royal women within the patriarchal Malay world. The lecture is gleaned from several classical Malay literature such as Tuhfat Al-Nafis, Hikayat Siak and others.
But can their authentic voices be gleaned from these narratives predominantly written by men?
Join us as Ruby seeks to uncover tensions within texts, challenging preconceptions of women ranging from queens, princesses, concubines and slaves within the realm of traditional Malay royalty.
The discussion encourages assessment of the varied roles held by these women and understanding their influence in traditional Malay society.
    Sutra
