His recipe is incorrect, it is not french buttercream. The one he's making is Italian buttercream , Swiss meringue is made with cooking egg white and sugar together until sugar melts. French buttercream is either made with lots of egg yolks / you can also apply same concept using whole egg

This is Swiss buttercream because you used egg white French buttercream usually used with egg yolk .
It’s Italian he used syrup on the whites, swiss is made by heating up the whites with the sugar to a certain degree then whip it and add the butter.
