"When you make an attack with a weapon that has the Light property, you can use a Bonus Action to make one attack with a different Light weapon you’re wielding.
The Nick mastery property allows you to make the additional attack you receive from wielding two Light weapons as part of the initial attack action.
Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean you can make a third attack as a Bonus Action, as the Light property specifies you only get one extra attack."
From what I understand, as a lvl 5 Champion fighter with the Telekinetic Feat I should be able to attempt a Shove as a bonus action, then take the Attack action to make a Shortsword attack with one hand, then make two dagger attacks due to the Nick property. All attacks would have advantage on a successful shove; one dagger attack would still be made with advantage - all great due to a higher crit chance. 👍

@@WyrmHunter That all depends on which weapon is your primary and which is your secondary.
So if your shortsword is primary you would make two attacks with that, and then one with the dagger.
If your dagger is primary you would make two attacks with the dagger before you attack with the shortsword once. And I am not sure you would be able to make an offhand attack with the Shortsword as part of the attack action as it does not have the Nick property. It would have to be your bonus action.
And why would you want to use the lower damage dagger twice anyway? Shortsword does slightly more damage. With that as the primary, you would have Shortsword Vex attack, 2nd Shortsword Vex attack with Advantage, Nick Dagger attack with advantage, and TK shove whenever.

It's not much in terms of complexity, but with how these things interact with the new additions to the Fighter chassis, I feel like I can actually call Champion a subclass rather than a waste of paper, and that's got me kinda hopeful to see what they do with the other reworks :)

The Champion Fighter artwork depicts them with a Vorpal Sword. For those unaware, rolling a 20 on an attack roll with a Vorpal Sword instantly decapitates an enemy (or deals an extra 6d8 damage from the hit, at the GM's discretion). RAW, this effect does not interact with the Champion's Improved/Superior Critical feature, since it explicitly states that the roll has to be a 20. HOWEVER, if they change the wording of the Vorpal Sword's effect to "On a Crit" instead of "On a 20", Champion Fighters would be rolling around with a 15% chance to instakill their victim ON EVERY ATTACK ROLL. This does not even factor in all the new advantage shenanigans that Champions have access to. Admittedly, this interaction is wholly dependent on your DM giving you a Vorpal Sword, and making it to at least level 15. But if the stars align... Who wants to RP One Cut Man?

I think one of the key flaws in D&D combat is how often it is correct to stay put when in a fight; to just stay in melee range of the one enemy you're fighting until they're dead (and this goes for enemy creatures too). There's little to no motivation to move away from enemies in order to pursue other ones unless a friend really needs help. I like that the Fighter now has an ability that allows them to move out of combat range of an enemy without provoking AoO, because it makes the decision to actually move around the field more likely.

Hearing that the eldritch knight being able to replace an attack with a cantrip makes me giddy, both the min-maxer in me and the "features reflecting story' aspect of me. I’ve always liked the idea of the fighters fight style , weapon choices being a part of their identity , back story. I see a battle master as being a trained soldier that has honed their skills through years practice and experience in many battles.
But perhaps a fighter is from a nomadic people , their weapon of choice is a spear typically used for hunting. Or maybe a fighter whose charge is to defend a woodland folk village and as a woodsman an axe is their common weapon , too.
That’s a potential symbol of their people , how they’ve become so adept at the use of the axe.
Weaving the relationship to the weapon to the identity of the character in a meaningful way. This is turning out to be a (seemingly) well thought out and interesting approach.

    @jamessquires6168 5 месяцев назад +1

Well. I feel like I was the only playtester that put this in input for this issue, and it wasn't read or just ignored. All the tweeks to actions and action surge so players can't multiclass in wizard and action surge to do 2 fireballs in one turn. Has now fallen on the Eldritch Knight. And now this subclass has been improved and nerfed in one smooth stroke.
What we've done here is open the EKs bonus action and allows a few more attacks to be made as well when it comes to war magic and improved war magic. This is great until you stop and think about it. Limiting improved war magic to lvl1 and lvl2 spells is lame. At that level The EK should be able to cast any level of spells within his spell list, which, as a 3rd caster, only goes to lvl4. At fighter level 20, the EK only gets 3, lvl 3 spell slots and 1, Level 4 spell slot.
Improved war magic is a major nerf! This is literally the sub classes Capstone ability. I height of the EKs power. Your taxing half his attacks snd your saying that the EK can only action surge and double up 2, lvl 1 or lvl 2 spells in a turn. That at level 20, the EK isn't capable of casting 2 spells of a higher level with his action surge. Is Wotc so determined to just make sure this is not a thing.l!? 2 high level spells in one turn? This should be the awesome niche ability specific to this subclass that is only rewarded by reaching a high level with 0 multi classing. And they jerked the rug out from under the EK by doing this. They buffed the mess out of the Battle master and the Champion. Only thing they did for the Ek was really open up thier bonus action and give them access to all schools of magic which was a bad part of the build to begin with and shouldn't have been done in the first place.
Fixing what's wrong and improving a subclass are 2 different things. I'll probably use the new EK, but allow a no spell level restriction on improved war magic at my table.
They always overdo too much for some and undercut the rest. Either way it is still not well balanced in my book.

I would rather have more action surge slots over second wind slots. I hardly ever use second wind. That's what health potions are for

Lovin how War Magic doesn't need a Bonus Action.

hope they actually change up the Cavalier so its feats aren't incompatible with a Lance, so it can actually function like a fantasy knight cavalry

I am curious to see how Barbs feral instinct will be handled since there are now ways to get Adv on Initiative sooner then level 7

With 2 very specific subclasses that have very specific niches. Barbs get init adv no matter what so they probably won’t do anyhting to it.
