- One day, we decided to take a nice little trip to the Yoruba and Pidgin speaking market of Lagos, and were offered everything from traditional Nigerian clothing like kaftans and ankaras to a unique method of "male enhancement". We also discovered a common way that Nigerians resolve disputes.

Big advise: Never stand to watch people fighting, so you don't get robbed by pickpockets while you are carried away watching the fight.
it works everywhere like this👍
I would never watch fights in Africa or South America, I would just be scared to be accused of something I didnt do and get lynched and set on fire.
@@pmbbmp Yea if you can get pick pocketed while watching a fight it can happen anywhere else too lol
That's what I thought.. You just protect your woman and get away from it.. When it get volatile as a westerner your a target for theives.. You should never do what they did on here.. Not just pickpockets you can get mugged in the commotion..
Use a wallet chain, like an american biker.
Ngl
You picked up Yoruba crazy fast
Pronunciation is largely off but you can communicate
That's a real talent man
Yeah. He is using the American accent lol, but he's a fast learner.
That dude can survive anywhere, i like him
@@SL-pg4dh Yoruba, just like Mandarin and Cantonese, is heavy on the tone. Tone is very important in the language. A single word can mean several different things depending on the tone used. Hence the original comment.
@@jeanvaughn7372
Very true!!!
I'm a Nigerian all my life i still can't speak shvt
Chibo is the star of this episode. He spoke very good English for a market tout and he actually said "you are with me". That was a great assurance
I do not give a darn if this white boy gets ripped off. These people have messed over so many people. Dam his white ass.
You know someone has your back when they say that you are with them. That means don’t worry about anything, I got you.
@@sammynatal6471 then you remember that time in Argentina he was taken to a trap House by some junkies lmfao
@@Basuko_Smoker
Yea!
No roof!
I'm surprised he survived that Rosario trip... Sketchy area but good peeps
I would survive about 5 minutes in that society, your openness and ability to communicate and adapt in environments is inspiring.
It's a good way for ppl who aren't good in busy social settings to get over any anxiety or nervousness they may have around this ... It's like diving strait into the deep end but obv Tommy is a natural and/or he's travelled around enough to be used to it all and now is second nature which is how I feel ... I get harassed wayyyyy less because I am Pakistani-American and tho I was born and raised not far from long island where Tommy is from, they see me as Pakistani/south Asian and dont have western equivalent funds and resources which is great .. they move onto next white man lol
You beat me, I wouldnt even go in the first place
@@MoAli-wm4of I have rlly bad social anxiety and I feel this. I’m thinking about travelling the world to see new places after getting my degree and I guess my first destination will be India to get over my crippling anxiety ohhhhhh no I’m already nervous 😩 after India I think I’ll go to Nigeria and then Japan, Canada, Moscow, america, Mexico, Thailand, Korea.. so many places i hope I live long enough to see all of them 😁
@@Krolted Where are you starting from bro? The list you mention there include places I've eithrr visited and loved or are on my list for the immediate upcoming trips once easily accessible more so ..
@@Krolted why don’t you start easy and go to Japan first, nobody there seems to like socializing. Or just dive off the deep end and go to one of the densest places on earth with a sprinkle of actual danger
Man I'm impressed with the effort you put into learning the language.... good for you
How's his Nigerian? When he speaks Spanish, he sounds like a straight up Argentinean. It's impressive if he's a white American who didn't take Spanish lessons in school. Even if he did take Spanish lessons, he speaks it with an Argentinean accent that wouldn't be taught in America. I'm American with Hispanic parents that only speak Spanish and his Spanish might even be better than mine!
@@giggityeffyou
I'm learning Spanish now- Tommy used the immersion method- like an actor staying in character.
I bet you had great upbringing with Hispanic parents. Very good manners & ethics
I’m a Nigerian

I’m ashamed to say that I’ve bought those items for a higher price than you did.
Great bargaining skills Tommy
@Daniel Nwokocha. You made laugh so hard!!
😹
lol rip
No lies oh 🤣🤣
Right! Lol The textile he brought was sold at a great price. My mother who is a native has bought textiles at a higher price.
What a masterpiece, episodes keep getting better and better

The way chibo was making sure you guys were secure is honestly insane. Good intentions love seeing that. Love your content.
The other guy talking to chiboy was just joking with him it's a normal thing.
the way he makes him beleive he was in danger was effectively insane . just another to take more money .
Josey and Sabbatical, the Dream Team.
When Josey features you know its gonna be a good video.
😀
Yes Yes
@@Lynn-ip9sh gona hit 2M views too ,😀😀
Josey looks exhausted. Poor thing. My mom use to move around like this everyday.
Looking fly Tommy! Miss Josey is stunning. More please.
I love this guy. He learned the local language to adapt to the local environment. With that, he can not be cheated by the locals.
He is a wise guy.
You will always be cheated by the locals. But that’s part of being a tourist. A little bit is like a tip the way I see it. In my experience, if you haggle too hard someone will outright rob you. If you don’t haggle enough they will outright rob you. It’s a line you have to be aware of. When I was in the navy I found it was better it pay a guide his wage. He will save you many times over just in the safety dept.
He actually did really well. I thought he would be cheated a lot more. Kudos to him for being a sharp guy.
The fight was the icing on the cake. You had the full experience 😂😂😂😂
Hahaha!!, welcome to my home 🇳🇬 Nigeria 😅, and weldone!!, that’s CMS Area props to you for going there, even I have to eat and be mentally ready to go there it’s an organized chaos 🤣🤣
Hahaha... organized chaos.. 🤣🤣🤣
I swear oooo 🤣
Lol. True🤣
So true 🤣🤣
That's not CMS area, you don't even know Lagos like you claimed . Dude was no where near CMS actually.
I love Josey's chuckle at the end when Tommy is strutting his stuff all Swag in his new tailored outfit...so cute!!!
what does all swag mean
Meaning of “Swag” in ^ comment above ^: Sabbatical is expressing “confidence,”while being very well-dressed, in that handsome, fashionable men’s Ankara attire ! 👍🏽🤓👍🏽

Respect Tommy for the uploads you give us. As a world traveler myself for a half a year, I must admit that your uploads give me the power to follow my dreams...
Sabbatical be rocking the Ankara like his an African man .. one love man ✊❤️
Wow it's very hectic, well done, I hate markets especially in the heat. The worst was in Morocco, they follow you absolutely everywhere and will not leave you alone until you shout at them. Markets in China are also very aggressive with foreigners.
China is well protected by the police, Morocco on the other hand...
@@vojvoda-draza It's true, but china police hate foreigners so it's not good either ! I see that on a documentary about the biggest china market and if you have any problem it's always the fault of the stranger..
Nigerian sellers are aggressive with everybody. Even the average Nigerian is tired of Nigerian sellers
@@Peterjev6 Not exactly the seller, those people following you around aren't the seller, they're meant to direct you to their shops, if you follow them just know price of things will be tripled cos they will get their pay,so it's better to just ignore them, i know it can be tough though.
I experienced that in Morocco. Not pleasant. This one has some humor and banter to it so if you can play the game you might be OK. Helps to have someone from the area with you.
Another wild excursion, man! Cheers and safety in your travels.
This is just beautiful...I miss home. Thank you for supporting the african hustle, helping the security guy was cool. You have a good soul. Bargaining skills is getting better. Your lady team member is a wise move 👌. Keep the a$$ kickers # handy, just in case- Guanxi style. Enjoy Nigeria.

Hey Tommy thanks for choosing this part of vlog... Really lovely... Try and explore more part of Nigeria like Ife
Best videos made about my country Nigeria 🇳🇬, loving to see you in northern Nigeria....

That dude at the motor park made my day, he literally threw President Buhari under the bus in 3 seconds of hearing the name BUHARI 🤣😅🤣😅😂👍🏾
Not surprised. Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅
In today's ethnic tense Nigeria , President Buhari is responsible even for a shooting at the next corner.
As much as I hate our president,But tbh that's not Buhari fault, it's the governor to blame.
@@oluwadamilola6233 of course, Sanwo Olu is the reason why cooking Gas, Eggs, Beans, Rice, Fuel and Dollar is rising in exchange rate. 😕😕
The way you pick up languages it's really impressive!
Not kidding! How’s he do with other languages, I wonder.
I found myself laughing throughout this video. I used to work in one of the high rise buildings (pre-Covid) and I must say that navigating through the busy streets from the car park to my office everyday, is usually a challenge. Thankfully, I now work from home, since Covid happened and all the chaos is avoided. Hi Josey!
Love Nigeria from Egypt 🇪🇬🇳🇬. I Hope things will get better for them.
Yoh lots of love enjoying our african shit man ❤❤❤🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Dude! That is for sure a good look on you. The kaftan with the sunglasses, I am definitely chuckling. Thanks!
Agreed, you just need confidence and shades to rock any outfit 💯
Great video, as always! And wonderful to see Miss Josie!! ❤
Rule number one: Whenever you meet a merchant in Nigeria, don't assume that they understand or speak Yoruba. Most of the merchants in Nigeria are Igbos and they do not speak Yoruba. For instance, at 18:03 he ignored your comment, because he doesn't speak Yoruba.
Hilarious, guess even if you learn local language you can't please the Africans and white man still bad
Being an American I am SO interested in stuff like this. I love learning about other ways of life. I hope some day I get to experience it as well and help people out

I love how there is always one person who is super friendly that just takes it upon themselves to show you around and looks after you. The best Travel RUclips channel - focusing on locals and showing the real cultures. Thanks for sharing all countries. Friendly dude too.
You seem to always find the chillest guides and helpers, it's a gift :)
When video lasts 25 minutes and you get the feeling that it only lasted 10 minutes it means it is very good

This is a part of Lagos at its bare. I love the confidence and wisdom you and Josey move with. Was glad to see situations diffused. This is really easier to watch than do like someone earlier said. You really picked up the language fast and dat is helping a lot. Weldone guys…
I am really proud of my country...Most Nigerians are good people, if you tell Nigerians you don't money and you are hungry as a foreigner believe me ..you'd have something to eat ....plus we have Good Vibes....most times optimistic..🙌🏾
Agree totally. Especially on the country sides. Wonderful country, lovely people .
That is a fact
Lol most scammers in the world, come from that shithole.
@@Hisfirstkill Laughing about what? Trying to offend Nigerians with your naming of a country who's cultural roots may be older than the shithole you are living in? Is there a statistical report which supports your claim? Or do you THINK that this is the case?

My head would be spinning if I spent a few days in that market!! Craziness..
You should be proud to be from such a great country & people.

I'm white (mostly Germanic/Celtic stock) but recently found out I have Nigerian heritage on my mother's side. Nigeria is on the list of countries I'd love to see. My goal is to stand in the places my ancestors could have stood before my life is over. Explore my roots.

Aggressiveness is a way of life in Nigerian market. They don't find that offensive, and they don't even notice they are being aggressive to foreigners who aren't used to such lifestyle, so to adapt you have to be aggressive too. Love the way you reacted to the woman who pulled you aggressively for holding a camera.
Exactly and she was like ‘fair enough’ lol
Yea they make Las Vegas timeshare salesmen seem soft
Rule number one in Nigeria don't give a fuck
Thats just dumb... Aggressive is aggressive no matter what. You cant excuse that type of behaviour.
He's just seen as food it is what it is. In America they ain't selling shit in the ghetto but drugs and its 50-50 your getting robbed if your not from there especially if your not a local white.
