- In early 2020, in a little known Chinese city, an event that would change the world forever began. That city, of course, was Wuhan. I’ll never forget it. I was living in Shanghai at the time, and was getting ready to take a vacation for the upcoming Chinese New Year, the biggest holiday in the country. A little over a month later, as the outbreak slowly spread to other cities and eventually other countries, I decided to catch a flight back home to New York and ride out the madness there. I figured it’d all be over in a few months. Little did I know, that decision would change my life. China closed the borders soon after, and I was stranded abroad. I had never been to Wuhan during the 7 years I lived in China. To be honest, I never gave it much thought. Many people assume it’s some backwater place, the kind of city where people were eating bats. On my return trip to the country, I wanted to actually visit the city and see if that was a fair description. Wuhan is hardly a small town: it’s the 8th largest city in China. It also has a very important history that stretches way back past 2020. But of course, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to see where everything began 3 years ago. I had to see it for myself.

Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.

I appreciate that he is very organic in engaging with strangers. He doesn't focus too heavily in forging conversations like some vloggers do to display their 'wit' in bargaining or exposing scams. I enjoy how he throws in good bits of trivia and history, and that beer interaction was so cool.
We live like pigs in America compared to these other countries! The streets and subways are so damn clean, no graffiti, and not a bit of trash on the streets!

I'm glad you accepted the smoke. On a recent trip to the Pudong airport, the driver busted out the smokes at the end of the ride. Not being in a rush and not really a smoker, it was worth taking the time to chat with the man over a cigarette. It is a form of greeting, bonding experience, and a ceremony of sorts.
In China people offer cigarettes as a sign of friendship and respect. They even give it for weddings and to business partners. Some of them are really expensive.
The Covid narrative was a smokescreen created and planted by the We$t to distract its long expected financial meltdown that was eminent in 2018. Held artificially since the first ice break in 2008, many events were created to postpone the unavoidable world recession and the typical symptom of another catastrophic materialistic world war.
A Chinese man offered me a cigarette at Incheon airport, it was skinny and tasted of blueberries. I've quit since, but I'll happily trade some conversation for a cig to this day

These were consistently the nicest and most generous and friendly people I have met anywhere in my travels around world. The middle or lower class chinese. So generous and genuinely interested. They really really appreciated a foreigner taking time to learn the language. The men would always ply you with cigs and always give you a couple for the road aswell. very fond memories.

I've binge watched so many episodes after finding this channel. I find other cultures so interesting, and I love seeing other countries. Thats one thing I have to say I enjoyed about serving in the Navy was being able to see other countries. I visited Wuhan last June and had an amazing few days there. I too was one of the few foreigners and went to the site of the wet market. It’s an overwhelming feeling to be at the centre of an historic event that had such a profound impact on the world. Now the city has regained its energy. People were friendly, food was wonderful and so many beautiful sites along the river and East Lake. Absolutely worth a visit!
As a chinese, i think your videos aboult China are objective and not biased, love the way you talk aboult the background, history, fun fact of chinese city.

I know very little of the cities in China, but I was struck by how clean and well kept they seem to be. Is this the norm? I went to Seattle some time back and was shocked that it was full of homeless druggies lying on the sidewalks, yelling and screaming at passersbys, trash and needles in the gutters, ragged tents lining the sidewalks and feces in the doorways of the shops. Sad how we've let our once beautiful cities turn into dumps. I very much enjoyed the video.

I'm from the USA, and about 10 years ago I had an email "pen-pal" who lived in Wuhan, but was originally from Changsha. So I managed to learn a little bit about those two cities. So it was crazy to watch this video from Tommy and see those two specific cities referenced. I guess recent events have given people a strange impression of Wuhan, but I will always have good feelings about it because of my pen-pal.

I was in Wuhan in December 2019. It's much nicer than what most people think. All of China's 19 Tier 1 cities are modern and very developed.
There are fond things that I remember in my short trips to China. One of them is complete strangers sharing their food with me (in restaurants, during plane rides, etc.) or giving me little souvenirs.
You probably wouldn't have been sharing food with complete strangers in December 2019 if the Chinese government hadn't covered up the new virus it had accidentally released a couple of months earlier!
Please, go to Changsha one weekend if you can, it will blow your mind. The people are freaking awesome.

It is pretty depressing living in China, mistrust and indifference are generally how i experience among strangers. The friendliness that most of Chinese people show towards foreigners is because they rarely see a foreigner and they have their projected fantasy towards you.

I lived in Wuhan a few years, had a startup there, left a couple of years before pandemic. Had Re Gan Mian almost every day - 在武汉，每天吃热干面！Still had a lot of friends there when the pandemic started, was very scary, was chatting with them every day. Almost all of them left, but then when they realised how bad things became in their home country, most wanted to go back to Wuhan but couldn't due to border closures! 3 years later, only a couple left.

Bro, you gotta check out the East Lake in Wuhan. Such an awesome place. I actually visited Wuhan when I lived in China, just after they opened from the COVID lockdown back in Sept 2020. Came to the same conclusion as you, it's such an awesome city!

I've traveled through many parts of the mainland, and found people singing, dancing/exercising, and generally having a friendly social time every evening in parks and public squares. Up north, my wife's family refer to the large dumplings as steamed buns. The iPhone is slightly cheaper in China than the UK, though I think that's because of VAT (Value Added Tax).
I think most countries don't like you asking questions on a number of subjects, and there have been instances where tourists have suddenly found themselves in a sticky situation. I remember years ago a group of aircraft spotters/enthusiasts found themselves being accused of spying in Greece, because they took some images of a plane. It was all innocent on their part, but they were arrested and questioned by the Greek authorities.
I think a lot of people are worried about visiting China at the moment because of all the propaganda being pumped out by some Western countries saying it's unsafe to visit. I've seen videos where it suggests that you could be arrested for spying.

Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. There is direct flight from Xishuangbanna to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, it’s easy to get around here. Buy a ticket then you’ll be here lol

Wuhan looks a really nice place, thanks for showing us around, and having fun with the locals! My youngest daughter went to Beijing for 4 months, and won an award for learning Chinese, proud mum moment, as my mum was also good with languages. Love dumplings. Those tree lined streets make it seem more relaxed.
Man, this takes me back to my time spent there years ago. It's such a beautiful country with some of the best food and some of the warmest/friendliest people one could encounter.
Also, he's telling the truth about leaving with a carton... the number of cigarettes people will try to give you after friendly conversation is staggering
The idea that China can't innovate comes from the fact that it had a reputation of copying western products I guess. But how that became some sort of fact about its people and then tied to political ideology and governance is so weird. China was historically very innovative prior to the Industrial Revolution. Paper, the compass, gun powder, etc and none of those inventions were created under a democracy or freedom of speech. Technological innovation has nothing really to do with political freedoms, but rather a meritocracy, education and capital.
Fun fact: I was in Wuhan half--a-year before the whole COVID thing broke out. Nice 2nd-tier city - I could feel that the people were more.... "simple/innocent" compared to people in the tier-1 cities. Back then, I also felt that it was more carefully developed with an eye attempting to conserve more of the "historical feel" than how the T1 cities had become very urbanized. But that was then - unfortunately I have retired my globe-trotting career days with the arrival of children.

Amazing content, why on earth i haven't come upon this channel before or why YT didnt recommend it to me is beyond me. I've traveled to most of the world. The most recent place I visited was china in Hangzhou. It is perhaps the most underrated place in the world and the people are perhaps the most generous and good hearted people for a developing country you will find. For us people in the west we fear and often times are afraid of the unknown.
I’m afraid of people who love wearing masks. Seems inhumane and unnatural.

@@CM-zl2jw I'm seeing plenty people wearing masks in the US right now. I went to my office today and was so happy meeting my co workers i haven't seen since COVID started, some of them were wearing masks. we had a great time. i don't see anything inhumane or unnatural about.

This has to be my favorite China video of yours so far! From gramps playing one-man tennis, eating baos, exploring the city, and talking to the locals also those girls from Nanjing were pretty. Love your perspective on China and the world, we're all are more similar than we are different. Just keep being respectful and aware bc I would hate to see your videos get cut short. Fantastic. I had a fourteen hour layover in Shanghai, China back in 2019 onwards to Malaysia. It was a pleasant five hour walk and the brief interaction with the locals at night was an amazing experience. Traveling solo gives you hindsight on the beauty of what to expect and is the best remedy for whatever ails ya, good or bad. Always be on the good, folks.

Wuhan, being a big river city in the heart of China, is more akin to Saint Louis than Chicago. What's China's Chicago? I'd say Zhengzhou because it's adjacent to the nation's agricultural heart and is/always has been a major railroad junction.
Zhengzhou is more like Atlanta, given it's not as fancy as Chicago.
It makes you realize that people are all generally good, and just like us--but we have leaders in power that cause conflicts. Your video made me both happy and sad--but it was great either way.

My Dad spent 6 years in China and fell in love with the country back in the 30's. I had plans to go to China back in 2019 but then the co vid hit and that was the end of that trip.
