Seeing your tour around Makoko slum community gave me memory down 2 years ago, whilst I had to do a group intervention with colleagues as part of my course study in M.Sc Public Health. They are so used to NGOs and foreigners coming to help them. There are about 6 local heads presiding over the different dialects there. They literally live on where they defecate (the ones living on the water). The blackness of the water is as result of sewage and effluent from drainages from the cities outside there. There is nothing you can do to help a people who see poverty as a culture. Poor sanitation, poor hygiene and lives dependent on fishing. On the other side of the coast, across the lagoon from Makoko slum, lies the most luxurious island for the Super Rich--Banana Island. It is hard to be born there and grow above the life of the slum.
Sorry brother I’m a Nigerian but I don’t agree with your Negative outlook here. I believe whoever is destined to be Great will be despite their circumstances
To say there's nothing you can do for such people is wrong bro.. Their life is only a result of bad leadership.. People are only a product of their environment.. Change the environment.. Sabbatical - these are the videos that mean the most to the world. You are giving these people a voice so they can tell the world about the atrocities their government inflicts on their own people. Thank you for doing what your doing my friend. And give Josey a hug from Jay in Canada lol
These vids are so cool. I can't believe how much stuff these people can carry and balance on top of their head, amazing.
Tommy your channel has some of the best content on youtube right now. keep up the good work. you give hope to people who have none.
Even after so. Much trouble with the life .... I'm really happy to see the school and childrens having a bright future ahead 🙏🙏🙏god bless u my child

If you are reading this, may you be happy forever! Tommy, great adventure. Are just going to stay in Lagos? Visit Enugu and or Calabar!
There shall be more than just Lagos (but not all of Nigeria on this trip)
Go to Kano for a whole different cultural experience.
Well the East and North are facing security challenges atm. The South and West are the best places to be. Calabar, PH etc

Nigeria RUclipsrs don't go there because they have Wode Maya Syndrome

Mann!!. Those elementary kids are becoming super smart, getting second hand GEOMETRY books 📚, thats there lectures college level!. Woww just incredible how education has no barriers. Seeing that classroom has brought tears to my eyes!. Tears of Joy and hope for a better Future!. 🙌 🇳🇬 🇺🇸 🌎
At least these kids are growing up learning english in addition to the Igbo language. I wish
i was exposed to multiple languages when i was a young child.
They are not second hand textbooks, they were bought brand new and has been put into use for some time now, thus making them appear like second hand textbooks.
@@justineifenna1037 The books look like they were given by the government (there's a government tag on the further math text)
@@justineifenna1037 I love books 📚 !. I agree surely they were bought new, just going off what Tommy said, that they were second hand.
@@segue97 Do you think those English books come from America as donations to Nigerian Government?. Pretty interesting
Its like a slum Venice , of Africa , but you can see with the school. They value education for the kids , im only halfway through the video , and its just so real and pure ! Great work bro
this was actually emotional to watch
I thought it was sad to see so many children living in those conditions.
Yes
Same it should be flattened and cleaned up this is no way to bring up children
Tanks Sabbatical, you remind me my trip in Benin, and it was the same trip. With the baord and the village upside the water... Great souvenir... Good road 😉☀️
Wow, now that's real!! Nice one Sabbatical!!
I'm always moved by your kindness...these kids don't forget such jestures. Keep it up, my brother.
Can you upload more often? maybe like 20 times a day? that would be great thanks.
😂😂😂
Yeah, 20 is sufficient. .. good enough..
Lol or go live that's even cooler
Dude, slow down 🤣🤣
I would sit and watch every video if he did. I’m at home most of the time, and I keep checking for more videos. I have rewatched Tommy’s videos over and over many times while waiting for new ones.
The heart these teachers need to have to teach in places like this.
Tommy you see that despite having considerably less they’re still happy and fun to be around. Despite being a slum they treated you kindly and you seemed happy
One of the best youtube videos so far. A different and a new world for me. Thanks for sharing.
Nigerian people are good people. I advise you to visit Abuja, it is a very beautiful city
The girl speaking to you about Nigeria is good was my fish customer daughter.. Dorcas is her name. 😆 😆
What that guy was trying to explain at the beginning is that, if they had taken you through the normal route where you dont have to enter water area boys (thugs) would have extorted and obtained you, they took you through that route with water because they know how makoko is. that place is a poor area and some people there turn to crime to survive.
Get your English, they will extort him 4sure as they do to everybody else, they will not obtain him,you meant delay them. At the end the girl said, Nigeria is great, America is good not go.
@@leeayi243 "obtain" is like a slang for extortion in Nigeria.

Yeah obtain is a slang for extortion in the ghettos of Nigeria.

Wow ! Thanks for sharing this. I would never have known about this community. One of my grandchildren's father is from Nigeria.
I've been waiting and checking for dayyyyyysssss. Damn.
The girl that’s been helping you on these is beautiful in my opinion
Thank you for showing and narrating that part of Nigeria. The last white guy who showed that area misled about Nigeria. You show the good and the bad.
I loved your comment “I’m not white enough” 😂re the skin bleaching cream. I enjoy your dry sense of humour. Love your channel!! From an Australian 🇦🇺 fan
Your Lagos Videos are the best. Hope you have more Lagos videos.

Tom and Josey. I just retired from 30 years of teaching in St Louis. Wow does their classrooms put things into proper perspective. Love your videos both of you. Honestly will my donation make it to their schools? Please let me know.
Awesome mehn thanks
Tommy, I’m sure you had a great experience in my home country nigeria, loved all your videos and nice to see how the economy is booming.
Tommy is good you have a Nigerian guide to take you round than the Uganda girl who doesn’t understand our culture and so different for her.

Wow. Tommy is so humble and has a genuine interest in different cultures
It's so difficult, I have done a lot of charity work with schools in similar situations. I've been guilty of creating weather spots which can sometimes lead to a lot of trouble
However... I've still donated to this one. Well done for your efforts 👌
When Josie is unsure of something, or doesnt understand, her face is *priceless*.
Provide the necessary opportunities and most times 7 out of 10 in such harsh conditions will grab it like their lives depend on it!.. Do what u can to help or just walk on and stop this pessimist outlook on people who are already having a tough run out of life as it is man
@23.10 that was such a brief enlightening summary from the lady. Despite the daily struggles, they are pushing on.
