Lots of people want to credit Jeff Foxworthy with the redneck plugs, but Jerry Clower was plugging rednecks long before anyone ever heard of Foxworthy. RIP Mr. Clower.
The late great master story teller, Jerry Clower kept it clean, fun and interesting and was a great comedian that will never be replaced--Miss you Jerry-make em' laugh up in Glory!!
You are right....I grew up in rural N C working on farms....doing what young people would not even think about doing today, like cropping tobacco in 98 degree heat. We always hoped the Farmer had a very good crop and it sold well because without his success, he couldn't afford to give us a bonus at the end of the season.
Rev Jim Bakker once had Jerry Clower as a special guest on the PTL Club television show. They were on a stage outside in the summertime and Jerry Clower told Rev Bakker, "It's hotter than a buffalo in a log, drinking corn whisky!"
I am seeing now how many comedians Jerry actually did inspire. I was watching Last Comic Standing and they have a very good black comedian named Rod Man and the judges were saying how they had never heard his brand of humor before, but I have. Jerry Clower. Very funny life stories about himself. Delivered as a story in a very funny way. I know this kid must have listened to Jerry at some point,
@dangeloandthangs fuuny shit ...but lets be real the history of showbiz is one guy " ripping off " the other adapting it and calling it his own . clowers genius is how he tells the story so funny and how most of his stories are rooted to some extent in his life experiences!!
Andy Griffith started doing comedy in the '50s. Remember "What it was, was football"? Many, many country comics were on the Grand Ole Opry before that.Seems Jerry's first album was released in 1971. Justin Wilson's first book in 1974.
No, the term was coined in the 30's, when a group of miners decided to nconfront the mine owners about conditions in the mines. They all traveled to Blair Mountain in West Va. or Va. and wore red rags around their trhoats to identify themselves to each other.
I can't be the only one who's noticed that Jeff foxworthy stole so many jokes from Jerry clower... And Jeff and Bill engvall both steal each other's jokes all the time and nobody has said anything to them.
@dangeloandthangs You have a different view of Jerry Clower than I do. I have been a fan of his since I was a teenager (59 now) and the way I understand Jerry, he wasn't into fame and fortune. He was a church going, word of God testifier. Well that's what he proclaimed years and years ago. When you talk about someone getting ripped off think of the Polocks, their jokes (the stole from morons) by Texas A&M Aggies. Some of those jokes even made it all the way to blonde, & congress
I love both Jerry and Jeff, very good and funny men. Stop nasty comments about Jeff‼️ People trash others so easily now days, sadly. Love good, not evil🙏✝️🇺🇲
@southsideeastexas You're right. I know very little of Jerry Clower, but what little I know of his work, I like. I was saying what I was saying about Jeff Foxworthy. It seems to me that he took advantage, but I could be wrong :-).
generation of haters? pull that card for a millionth time why dontcha, if you are in the 30 percent that still thinks "Change" is coming your in sad shape, keep your "change", your gonna need it, unless your another one living off of my taxes, amazing how many peoples utilities in government housing I cut off now-a-days, guess they havent got the "change" they voted for either eh? ha!
@southsideeastexas Yeah, but with no credit to Clower. He ACTS like he came up with the whole concept and built an "empire" out of it, WHOEVER said it.
This track is from 1993. “Stories Told Funny”. 3 years after Jeff’s bit. Though Jeff did not steal the idea from Jerry, he will NEVER be the comedian or storyteller that Jerry was. But in his defense no one on the planet will ever come close. A fact i’m sure Jeff would willingly admit himself.

The late great master story teller, Jerry Clower kept it clean, fun and interesting and was a great comedian that will never be replaced--Miss you Jerry-make em' laugh up in Glory!!
I can’t believe Foxworthy straight-up created an entire career from this bit… even used the ironing board / spit can line.
Also the cars in the yard and dogs under the porch
Us ole country peoples do scrub behind the ears also, can Listen to Clower all day, God bless him and God have him today in heaven!
Hes the Greatest Comedian!
I've always been a Jerry Clower fan. He tells the best stories

NC country boy myself.
Eastern NC --- Jones County I remember walking to school and it being delayed a week because tobacco was late getting in. 80's
Used to visit with him in Yazoo City in late 60’s. What a nice man.

t Alabama
@@raymondflorence4357what part of Alabama? I was born and raised in Andalusia.
Foxworthy owes this man royalties
Mark Rice I was thinking that!!!!
Matt Beeman ok but jerry was recording up until his death in 98’. So Foxworthy my have beaten him to it.
Actually the books Jerry refers to are the one Jeff wrote.
Jerry Clower stole most of his stories from early southern comedians. Nobody owes him anything.
@@michaelwhisman7623 so you ain't a jerry fan
You hit the nail on the head maybe not all of them but most of them 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, Foxworthy definatly stole Clowers material but Jerry is by far the funnier of the two.
Ah Ha! I guess we know where the Blue Collar guys got their material!
Exactly what I was thinking too
Jerry just described my neighbor
Um. Jeff Foxwothy has got some splainin’ to do.
Nobody is original nowadays. Everybody is just a duplication of somebody else.
The book The Stupids is an old book Jeff Foxworthy copied word for word.
That's funny, this is the first I've heard this story. I was just thinking to myself that this sounds very familiar.
Jeff Foxworthy stole it and reissues it in that stupid exaggerated accent.
Wow so THIS is where Foxworthy got his start. Inspiration for everyone thereafter.
@@docwashburn430 That's because Jeff got it from Jerry and pout it in his book, lmbo !

@southsideeastexas Justen Wilson (You-stan Wil-so) Cajan storyteller and cook
: ) Foxworthy made ALLOT of money pivoting off this. ...
@@docwashburn430 That's because he stole that from Jerry too as he didn't write that book till Jerry was dead I think.

But when she gave me that snuffcan full of sugar an cinnamon. SHE TAUGHT ME HOW TO USE IT. I LOVE MY GRANMA K. SHE BEAT ME TO CCHASE THE CHICKIN. N9
This was later in Clowers career. The book he’s referring to is Jeff’s book.
Until now, I had no idea Foxworthy stole this idea.
