I'm pretty sure the baby was being used as a layer of protection. She called Daryl's bluff about mowing them all down because they had a baby with them, which worked. Once the baby was no longer needed it was just a liability and was expendable. Alpha is the most evil villain since the Governor.
So much happened and I felt the stakes were high despite no one dying (which shows it possible to get that point of tension without it happening) and really great character moments. It was chilling, frustrating then heartwarming.
Honestly I kinda prefer the smaller numbers. I find those reactions the best. When there's a lot of people it's hard to focus on what everyone's saying

For example, when a mama kangaroo is being chased by dingos and has no chance of escape she will push her cub out of the pouch as a sacrifice to get away. I think the Whisperers are the same way. If the child compromises their safety then they're on their own.
yeah but the whole scene was kinda stupid... there was nothing stoping that mother from just simply walking away from the herd and keeping her distance until the baby stops crying.
I really dig the hinting at what happened during the time jump but not outright telling us. It's a neat little add in for the show and leaves you guessing. This season has been DAMN good. Angela Kang has breathed fresh life into this show that it's needed for a while now.
The cornfield scene was amazing. Really well done, I went back and forth thinking they wouldn’t kill Connie and the baby to wait they may actually do it. And seeing who went to save them, Kelly obviously cuz that’s her sister, but at first I wondered why Tammy and Earl went, but it’s cuz of the baby. I could imagine them putting up a mild fight with Daryl to go help and he had to give in.
I'm pretty sure in the last episode, Daryl didn't see her grabbing for the hammer. His angle was looking from behind Henry so, he wouldnt have noticed that.

I loved every single part of this episode. The contraposition of the kingdom fighting for something needed not for survival but for civilazation and the whisperers regressing themselves in the name of survival is been portraied perfecly. I think that this season will end with Daryl or someone else making to the whisperers a bigass rickstyle speech on how about they're more than animals and surviving is not enough so they will switch side (Lydia first) leaving Alpha alone
Bringing the baby was a tactical decision. There are more Whisperers. Beta's group wasn't there. Omega is symbolic of Lydia to the Whisperers because in a pack, the Omega is the weakest member. In The Whisperers, Lydia's the weakest member.

It's different when you're around zombies all the time and travel with them like nomads and have to blend in. Zombies are attracted to sound so a live human baby is like a dinner bell. It sounds barbaric but if the lady didn't put the baby down, they would have all been eaten
9 seasons in and people are still falling for simple writing techniques that have been used since the very start. Henry is clearly being written so that the audience finds him annoying that is the whole point. They do this because they plan to develop him, he clearly followed the whisperers back to their camp and he will clearly be developing into a better/badass character after he learns and sees the whisperers customs and ways of life. He will most likely get his own Walker skin and will eventually use all that info to aid our survivors in the future. Stop falling for this character redemption trope. Meryl,nicholas,gabriel,etc have all went through this same development.
Still well that's true I feel the fans would much more appreciate an already-established badass character like Darryl, Michonne, Shane, and even time-skip Morgan, coming on board and then flesh them out with flashbacks later. Save us having to see them mature, it helps pacing and leaves screen time for other things.

Which one of you has a Colt Python? They are pretty pricey and hard to find so you must have shelled out a pretty penny for one ($2,000 and up is nothing to scoff at for a revolver). The Pythons were the sexiest revolvers ever made and definitely a good catch.
@@PACKERMAN2077 As far as the gates of hell Colt goes, I'm guessing that was modeled after the single action army (haven't watched Supernatural so don't hate me) which is my second favorite revolver, but I still find the Python to be just a hair better looking and of course better for modern day shooting. The Mateba is a very interesting design that is also out of production I believe (most people don't even know it was a real revolver) which is very cool, but to me seems like a novelty gun as I'm not really into the whole blocky gun is the future aesthetic though I have to admit it is pretty damn sexy despite that. Alas I wish I had all three, but I'm a broke bitch. lol

With like a foot long barrel. 😋 The mateba is unique enough just to be cool but doesn't look at polished as the python being proportionally almost perfect. It's the Tactical rail covered variants of the auto revolver with stuff hanging off of it and a square suppressor that really make it pop

Long barreled percussion revolvers are extremely beautiful, I adore 1851 Navy's and model 1858 Remingtons. I believe if I got some range time with the mateba I might fall in love with it, I also bet it's well balanced to shoot being that shape too. My bias against blocky guns is kinda hypocritical now that you mention the FAMAS, cause now I remember wanting one while playing MGS along with Snake's HK Mk23 SOCOM even though IRL that thing is big as hell.

There's already an evolutionary reaction that babies exhibit when being carried by the mother. From a 2013 study: “Infants under six months of age carried by a walking mother immediately stopped voluntary movement and crying and exhibited a rapid heart rate decrease. ...The calming responses may increase the survival probability of the infant in cases of emergency escape by the mother-infant dyad.” In an extreme survival situation, it's not impossible for a group to select for babies with a stronger soothing response to maternal carrying. The real issue is that the situation they are in is not *that* extreme, that's just Alpha's delusion. They could build shelters and protect their children rather than carrying them everywhere.

Playing devil's advocate here. Alpha sees a baby that can not be calmed as a weakness. I mean, she understands that an infant can't be reasoned with, but some are quieter and easier to quiet than others. She wants her people strong. She wants babies that can be quieted and to grow up to be quiet. Plus, she's one of those social Darwinists. None of them are very smart or really understand natural selection and evolution. You can write it off as a misunderstanding of nature. They probably brought her along because they didn't think there would be conflict... or maybe she wants her people to always be ready, baby or not. But yeah, overall, she thinks allowing those in danger to just die eliminates the weakest links. Though, as we see, she kind of breaks her own rules to get Lydia back. Something to think about.
Coulda ended this Whisperer War before it even started. Alpha: "Bring me my daughter.. or there will be conflict." Tara: "You killed Jesus!" Alpha: [while slowly turning to walk away] "Oh these motherfuckers are crazy." Never seen again.
It's not practical for close-quarters combat, Sound is obviously an issue. The effort that one complete cartridge takes is not worth using on one weak Walker. Assembling cartridges still requires Milling the gunpowder to make a fireable round. also that stuff requires testing to be safe and not cause catastrophic failure that would take someone's hand off. And Firearms require upkeep unless everyone has revolvers and stockpiled AK-47s.
From Lydia's reaction to the crying baby last episode, it's likely she has witnessed many babies eaten or left out there.

Well its stereotypical mannerisms of traumatized victims of abuse, although in Beth's case it was self inflicted, she was never the same after the farm fell.
23:39 - actually the whole "the alpha wolf" thing is just a myth. The dude who originally published that theory was wrong and he tried to retract it later. What he actually observed was just a normal family of wolfs and the "alpha wolf" was the father.

HOWEVER, when a pack of wolves hunt, defend, or attack, there is a command by a Strong and prominent member of the pack. The families in the pack may not revere that commanding wolf as leader, but during that mission, that wolf has command. SO the hierarchy of the "Alpha" still stands

9 seasons in and people are still falling for simple writing techniques that have been used since the very start. Henry is clearly being written so that the audience finds him annoying that is the whole point. They do this because they plan to develop him, he clearly followed the whisperers back to their camp and he will clearly be developing into a better/badass character after he learns and sees the whisperers customs and ways of life. He will most likely get his own Walker skin and will eventually use all that info to aid our survivors in the future. Stop falling for this character redemption trope. Meryl,nicholas,gabriel,etc have all went through this same development.
Still well that's true I feel the fans would much more appreciate an already-established badass character like Darryl, Michonne, Shane, and even time-skip Morgan, coming on board and then flesh them out with flashbacks later.
Save us having to see them mature, it helps pacing and leaves screen time for other things.

Which one of you has a Colt Python? They are pretty pricey and hard to find so you must have shelled out a pretty penny for one ($2,000 and up is nothing to scoff at for a revolver). The Pythons were the sexiest revolvers ever made and definitely a good catch.

As far as the gates of hell Colt goes, I'm guessing that was modeled after the single action army (haven't watched Supernatural so don't hate me) which is my second favorite revolver, but I still find the Python to be just a hair better looking and of course better for modern day shooting.
The Mateba is a very interesting design that is also out of production I believe (most people don't even know it was a real revolver) which is very cool, but to me seems like a novelty gun as I'm not really into the whole blocky gun is the future aesthetic though I have to admit it is pretty damn sexy despite that.
Alas I wish I had all three, but I'm a broke bitch. lol

The mateba is unique enough just to be cool but doesn't look at polished as the python being proportionally almost perfect.
It's the Tactical rail covered variants of the auto revolver with stuff hanging off of it and a square suppressor that really make it pop

That makes way more sense for the key to hell to be a Paterson considering it was the first percussion cap revolver, don't know why I didn't associate something as old sounding as key to the gates of hell with that lol. It's awesome they gave the Colt Paterson some airtime, much more unique than the SAA which gets a lot of movie and game coverage already. Long barreled percussion revolvers are extremely beautiful, I adore 1851 Navy's and model 1858 Remingtons.
I believe if I got some range time with the mateba I might fall in love with it, I also bet it's well balanced to shoot being that shape too. My bias against blocky guns is kinda hypocritical now that you mention the FAMAS, cause now I remember wanting one while playing MGS along with Snake's HK Mk23 SOCOM even though IRL that thing is big as hell.

Playing devil's advocate here. Alpha sees a baby that can not be calmed as a weakness. I mean, she understands that an infant can't be reasoned with, but some are quieter and easier to quiet than others. She wants her people strong. She wants babies that can be quieted and to grow up to be quiet.
Plus, she's one of those social Darwinists. None of them are very smart or really understand natural selection and evolution. You can write it off as a misunderstanding of nature.
They probably brought her along because they didn't think there would be conflict... or maybe she wants her people to always be ready, baby or not. But yeah, overall, she thinks allowing those in danger to just die eliminates the weakest links. Though, as we see, she kind of breaks her own rules to get Lydia back. Something to think about.

The effort that one complete cartridge takes is not worth using on one weak Walker.
Assembling cartridges still requires Milling the gunpowder to make a fireable round.
also that stuff requires testing to be safe and not cause catastrophic failure that would take someone's hand off.
And Firearms require upkeep unless everyone has revolvers and stockpiled AK-47s.
