1978 gt80 was my first bike. I was 7 years old and rode it to death. I kept it all these years and someone stole it a few years ago. I miss that thing
Meeee Toooo Brother ! X Mass 1973! Theeee BEST EVER!! It Started a Lifelong obsession Of Ever Bigger Ring Ding! Wonderfull Memories 4 Ever. God Bless
Hi, I'm from Nicaragua, Central America. In 1992 I bought a 2-stroke yamaha gt 80cc motorcycle, model 1988, I bought it from a neighbor for US$800 with an 8-month term but since I had an accident 2 times, I paid for it in 10 months hahaha. In 1995 I sold it and I regret it to this day because I lent that money plus US$200 to add US$1,000 and they didn't pay me, my father's cousin was my rat lawyer hahaha Until now when I see this video and hear that sound it came to me mind my cute little Yamaha GT 80cc two-stroke motorcycle. GOD BLESS YOU MUCH MORE.
Great bike and Christmas story! I'll never forget my 1971 AT1 125 Christmas at 12 years old. I ordered a new 2021 CRF300L last fall and it arrived Christmas eve after waiting 4 months. I thought that was perfect timing. Another motorcycle Christmas! God bless America!
I grew up in Montague and I ran the plains with this - only in Yellow. :)
my first bike at 13 years old, Yamaha GT80. I loved that bike..mostly dirt/fire road riding..(no drivers lisc)..50 years later..(today) still ride : 4 bikes in the shop...lol.. rode my DR650 yesterday up the mountain..never get tired of it..cool vid thanks
Ain't that the truth ,I walked past a motorbike shop on my way to school aged 7 in Basingstoke uk,a yellow trial 80 was in the window,I would leave early to go look at it,...it's what started bike❤ life for me 🗽☘
I had a 78 or 79 honda Elsinore 50.. I rode that bike for the majority of my childhood it always ran and sounded really similar to this one. It never had any issues
You have a video of one.. it's the mr50 I started riding it at 5 and rode it until I was 15ish.. me and my little bro
This is the bike I learned to ride on. It’s also the bike that tore the nose right off my friend’s face.Memories ….
You know Tony No Nose Taglialucci?
Had a 75, was my first bike too! Couldn’t get me off it. Except when mom had to pick it up off me. The year I got it was 1980, I was 11. 🥰🏍️ still addicted to dirt oriented bikes. I have no need for street only. I have to get dirty! Will be 54 in a couple weeks.
This was my first motorcycle! I loved it! I'm glad other people appreciate them too!
Mine too!!
Hundreds of years from now, there is going to be an enormous statue of senior riding a wheelie up that hill.
I had one. Great bike. Couldn’t kill it
I had a '73 Gt 80, the MX one. Sure brings back memories seeing them on YT. Hours and hours of fun in the sun.
Finally got my hands on the 78 GT80 my grandfather bought new for my mom and her sisters. Its bounced around a few different family members over the years and now its my turn. It needs some love but I can't wait to get it back to its former glory.
The most a guy could hope for when buying a used bike from %90 of dealers is a oil change, except for as is sales. N.E.M.M. makes a guy feel strong when bidding👏
Just love it
Very nice bike I would love to have one like that
Pretty.
Love these. You're right the best Christmas I ever had.
Give this to a ten year old boy and watch him cry tears of JOY 😂 ❤️🇬🇧 🇺🇸
My first bike as well. Such amazing memories. Thanks for sharing!!
I love this kap,I learned on a red 74 model .it's emotional to me,been my first love and lasted all my life would love to have it!
I had the same bike! Spent many days riding the trails with my friends on that bike.
I have a red one in the garage, needs some work.
Man...I had that exact bike when i was a kid. that was my first bike not counting a Montgomery Ward mini bike. Awsome resto Kaplan. i love it
Omg my first motorcycle i got as a kid im 55 now everyone in Watts California loved my bike it definitely made me famous as a kid it has 4 gears All up th0 i had that exact same bike and color looking for my pic on it now Nevertheless that bike is super reliable 40-45 mph tops 😂
This brings back memories, I had a 74 GT if I remember correctly, a red one. I rode the wheels off of that bike. That started my lifetime love of motorcycles as well. I grew up on a farm here in Canada and I rode it so much that my mom knew something was wrong if she didn't hear the bike running! because it was running all the time!
A child hood friend had one .. we used to ride it on a dead end at in worc ma. Yellow blk. 👍
Your dad was pretty cool.
Fantastic Yamaha 80 well nice😀👍
My first bike with some gets and a clutch. I had 2 of them and I was for like a 11 year old kid I thought i was ready for the motocross. Being it was like 87 when I got my first one so I was a little late
japanese revolutionized affordable durable trail bikes, what an amazing piece of engineering
I hated these bikes. They had no power and you had to rev the shit out of them to get any power.
My 1976 XL100 had way more power and I switched with another's GT60 I think. -Kept stalling on me since no torque.
When I was a kid someone had a mini Yamaha GT60 or DT60 at their garage sale (1981?) for $150-200 and I thought it was the greatest thing I ever saw. (yellow bike). Dreamed of that bike for years as a kid.
70's trail bikes are the best of times. 60's Mini-Bikes started the trend.
Funny how they designed those rear tail lights so big.
I would imagine they needed to be a certain brightness from a certain distance according to Department of Transportation standards. And they didn't have that kind of light power back then
Because they used the same ones on all enduros that year.
Love the Christmas story lol, I’m going to go buy a gt80 for a gift next week, but I’m not sure what year it is, do you happen to know if they changed anything over the years? Any information would be great, and sweet bike!
I have one of these, I have all the parts I just really need help with the carb and tuning. Please.
Any resources??
I’ve got the exact same bike. Only has a bassani pipe. I’m restoring it. Where did you find correct tires? I need turn sig as well.. plan to rip up mid Ohio and the local streets this summer. 👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻
Hey Kaplan I just picked one up last night. Never seen one with the green tank. At any rate do you sale parts? Trying to bring it back to oem glory
no comment lol
I have the same bike in better condition. I think I broke the kick spring so its kinda limp ish. Also it needs a full go through. Its been in a basment for 40 years and now my garage. I will reach out for info to get this fixed up.
Our 81 dt80 has 1281klm
I don't know why they called it a 80 when it's only 72cc
Only downfall , when the chain falls off it bends the clutch pushrod
Yep. That happened to mine. Pulled the side cover off and think we straightened the pushrod by putting it in a drill and tapping it until it was true.
