- In this video we show you guys our mini 2 stroke dirt bike find! We bought this vintage Yamaha bike at the Pate Swap Meet this last year and got to drive it a little bit then but nothing too crazy. We found that in our short time driving it there were issues with it staying running and not cutting out at the top end. With a little bit of carb tuning we were able to get it running just fine and hit the power band very nicely. After we got this mini dirt bike running good we took it out to our favorite spot and gave her a rip and raced our cj mini bike with a built predator 212!
Thank you guys for watching and be sure to stay tuned for this thing to get a full cosmetic restoration!

That’s from back when dirt bikes were still pretty to look at, and they al didn’t look exactly alike!😊😊😊
I was 8 in 1980 and I got a brand new one for helping muster sheep with my dad on our farm in the Highlands of New South Wales. I loved this bike. I rode it hard until about 13 then moved onto a bigger bike. It sat in the shed for nearly 15 years and once it had all fresh fluids and a new spark plug in it started after 2 kicks.
Thanks for this video just hearing the sound of it brought back great memories of me, my bike and a .22 slung over my shoulder. Good times.
I was going to say the same thing about the sound. I was instantly transported. Loved my MX
I paid $100 for my 79 GT80.. Super fun little bikes.
Good to see, I have a Suzuki TC125 from 1972, I got it for free from a dude i know, needed new points, condenser and coil as well as me welding the kick starter back together and cleaning the oil pump. It runs well considering the top end is bad due to previous owner running without air filter. I plan to get new top end, repaint, tidy up etc when I get older and have more money, I'm only 16. Btw it's the one with the dual range gearbox. Low range 1st gear can climb anything, it's awesome
That little mx rips.Reminds me of my xr75 I had as a kid.
That was a popular bike when I was younger !!!
This was my first bike in 1981. Those little bikes were awesome!
I here that intro music and see that hole saw and I know the next several minutes is going to be comfy.
Hey guys didn’t finish watching had to say I grew up riding one of those awesome find that’s actually worth some money
I prefer 2 wheels to 4... except in the snow :) cause it's like flying
Get yourself a pair of trelborg stud tires. Your winters will be awesome riding trust me
That lil 80 is putting in work .. love the 2 stroke content 😁😀😁😀
Ah fun vid! My first dirt bike was a 1980 Yammy MX 100 I bought new when I was 16. Paid for it with my paper route money. $600. Been through a lot of bikes since then and now have a '18 KTM 690 Enduro R.
This was my first dirtbike. Mine was a 73. I just sold it to a buddy. There fun little bikes. They made a street legal version also called the gt80. The holes on the fenders that are plugged are where the lights went. There is a blank plug on the left side of the engine where the speedo cable goes
Nice find! Reminds me the days of our old Kawasaki 90 when I was a kid. Had such a blast on that thing! Great job guys!
Now I miss my mx80 , they do move pretty good . Buzzing down the railroad tracks sliding around on the rocks , those were the days
Had this exact bike when I was a kid. Great memories.
It was awesome to see that thing and meet y'all at Pate!
Two stroke always wins !!!!! I love the two stroke !!!!!
I had a 1979 Yamaha GT80. street legal version of this. What a dog and only a 4 speed.
That thing is a little beast!
great find. my first bike was a 83 mx100 I love these old 2 strokes
2 strokes are the way to go
Thats cool, had a riding buddy in the day with a first gen Mini-Enduro Yamaha. Be cool to see it restored, you guys are doing great thanks for sharing!
Very cool.. I picked up a 1980 ds80 Suzuki and plan on a rebuild. Great content 👍
Had this same bike bought it for 80 dollars at a garage sale back in the 90s lol
Bike sounds great man I just got one I’m about to fix been sitting in a garage for 30 years mint just dusty. It’s a 1978gt80mx
Eddie Wilson I have a gt80 as well
The fuel tap has a filter screen inside of it that can be cleaned out but you can fit a finer grade microfine paper filter to remove all of the contaminants !
Man you guys look funny on that bike lol 😂
This was my 1st bike. I’d love to have one
Nice bike you guys, I just sold mine back in June. I’m not very well versed on these, but the one I had was the gt80, essentially the same bike except mine was street legal. I don’t know if the mx80s were or not but it would be cool to find out and add back all the lights to make it legal again.
I love my little gt 80 but I'm trying 2 figure out if I can put a different carburetor on it if so please let me know 🙏🏻
Where’d you guys get the parts for the bike. I’m having trouble finding the carburetor gasket that goes on the bowl
Cool little bike I'm hopefully gonna score one this week for $100. Needs a little tune up I'm hoping
my co-worker Nick Walker Has The Same Kind Of Bike 1981 Yamaha GT 80 2-Stroke same Color He Drove It To Work Everyday But His Seat Was So Brown And Rusty and Very Smokey When It Drives It IT Was Blowing A lot Of Blue Smoke Everywhere
Keep putting your foot down your gonna get hurt .be safe my friends
Damn. I thought I got a good deal paying 375 for mine. And it’s wayyyy rougher. Excited to get it going tho
Did you check the vin and where if you did i have one like that and cant figuire out what it is for parts.
I got a gt80 for free and I'm looking to restore it to make it street legal. I know urs is gt80 but they're built the same way besides wires and lil details. Mine got the optional 5 speed on it.
Edit. I meant urs is an mx80
I wanna swap a 5 speed into my gt80 any idea where to get the parts I’d need?
@@fenixfurona9577 I have no idea. Apparently it was an option at yamaha when the model was still in production or something. The guy took it there and got it an extra gear
You should enter that in the Cars & Camera's off road bash that's coming up later in the year :-)
Can I get a quote on fixing one of these through a dealership? It may have the same problems as yours did but it doesn’t run. Any ideas?
Awsum guys my 2nd bike was mx 80 luvd it great vid it cheers
What is the song in the intro
can I throw lights and battery on this? Would the stator support charging?
The GTs came with lights and electrical stuff on them from factory I believe
I wouldn't trust the oil injector, just mix the gas & oil
Hi i am documenting my own GT80MX restoration and as introduction of how good condition units are I would like to include a small footage of yours running. Should be only be like a two seconds take of something like what is happening at minute 3:00 . Would you be Ok with that? I can include a link to this video in the description.
It should have a in the tank filter. Like us old school people know how to clean.
Nice going!
That's a really great bike, btw. I've seen them turned into GP racers....
Resto + big bore kit please!
when you engine brack on a 2 stroke lol 😂
This was my first bike at about 11
Me too. My brother had the mx 100
Woooo
Can you make a snow kart
Are yall thinking about selling it
When you know how its built, you’ll buy a Yamaha...
2 stroke Yamaha vs 2 stroke Odyssey

@@ughblah2552 dang
Probably not the best idea to be wearing shorts, especially while riding on a gravel road...
BUGATTI JUST HIT 300 MPH IN A CHIRON
