- I'm beyond impressed at the 0-60 difference and how much easier it is to stop the car with the lightweight wheels. Definitely a must have for anyone looking to squeeze the most performance out their cars. #tlxaspec #jseries #lightweightwheels

Take a shot everytime I say "difference", but you might get alcohol poisoning🤷♂️.
On my accord i put the rsx type s wheels from 02-04 which are 16 inch and weigh 15lbs!! Best upgrade yet!
16 inch 15lbs? That’s OP bruh
@@chrizze5062🍻
They aren't 16lb.
I'm impressed with the improvements especially with that really high DA on the light wheels, cause the higher you go it has a significant impact on the oxygen levels in the air
They definitely help acceleration and stopping a noticeable amount👍
I replaced the 19 x 9 & 19 x 10 Rays forged aluminum wheels on my sport model Nissan 370Z with a set of the same size forged magnesium monoblock wheels from Litespeed Racing. I also replaced the OEM Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2(240) tires. The weight savings on each of the front corners was 9 lbs on the wheel and 3 lbs on the tire, with the back weight savings being slightly more. The result was that the steering responsiveness and suspension dynamics were improved noticeably. The suspension's compliance has improved with bumps and holes being much less noticeable. I've noticed an improvement in straight line acceleration with faster coast down when I'm off the gas. The only drawback is that the wheels also lightened my wallet quite a bit.
That's awesome! So many benefits to lightweight wheel setup, but yes, the downside is it does cost a good amount of money but one of the best mods for NA imo.
I agree completely, as all aspects of performance benefit significantly.@@RevsALot
Half a sec? Thats crazy, seems like lightweight alloys are extremely overlooked as a performance mod. could make a massive difference when paired with weight stripping like the back seats etc
For sure, definitely helps a lot the main thing killing this car's 0-60 is the throttle response. A pedal commander would probably knock off another half a second tbh.
Nice to hear that braking performance improved
Thanks. I am soon going from 17.3kg (38lbs a wheel) to 9.2kg (20.2)lbs on model Y performance. Curious about results. (Excluding tyres, but still big difference in terms of rims)
Damn, that's going to help it a decent amount for sure. Considering these shaved half a second 0-60 and only 8-10lbs. A wheel savings.
You will have a better driving experience in every regard. However, you will almost certainly lose range due to aerodynamics.
How did this work out for you? I've got a model y performance I'm thinking about doing the same
🙌🙌 very well documented
Thank you! The auto definitely makes it easier to see before and after results of mods👍.
Great video man this is exactly what I was looking for
I disagree on the sprint booster, that would only adjust the way the throttle feels making it feel like an old cable throttle. Rotating and unsprung mass makes a big difference for sure though. Lightweight tires would make a bigger difference than lightweight rims though because the mass is further away from the center point. Mass that is further away from the center point naturally has more inertia. If you coupled tires that are about 5lbs less per corner with those lightweight rims, I bet you could hit a 14.2 or so. I know when I swapped from oem steel to oem aluminum rims on my 2 door wrangler I went from running a 13.7ish to a 13.5 quarter mile and even snuck in a 13.4 run too.
Spring booster would definitely help, mainly cause the throttle lag is insane. It doesn't give it full throttle right away, sprint booster would make this thing peel off the line just that split second makes a big difference with the auto. It doesn't do anything after it's already floored though.
@@RevsALot possibly. If the throttle is mapped really lazy from the factory it could possibly help with the initial hit off the line.
It definitely is mapped lazy, it's one of the biggest complaints from reviewers with the car. I can almost press the throttle 20% before the car gets off the line.
On my 13 civic si sedan I went from stock enkei alloys wrapped in khumo ecsta’s 215/45/17 and moved to a 17x9 ssr type c with 225/45/17 champiro hpy’s, each wheel and tire went from 52lbs to 37lb and the wheel and tire are both wider than before
Nice! That's an impressive improvement for sure.
Best I got at an actual drag strip was 13.99 1/4mi at around 60° ambient. Definitely have things to void warranty installed, but oem Aspec wheels.
Fwd?
@@RevsALot Yes
Yah the FWD are a lot quicker.
@@RevsALot I was hoping for a better time, but it is what it is. I’ve got Injen cold air, 3.7throttle body, ported intake runners, rv6 HFPC, Tsudo jpipe, circuit werks exhaust, ktuner tuned by IMW, all sitting on bc racing coilovers (helps eliminate wheel hop) with Michelin pilot sport as4s
@@thatmoddedacurawhat was your trap speed? It's hard to get traction with those mods in fwd, so trap speed gives better idea how fast it really is.
dang i managed 1/4 in 13.99 6speed stock, with my old ecoboost rwd, i was expect an awd around the same hp to do close to that haha
@philippebrebion6203 what did you time it with? I dragy two 3.5 10spd 4x4 supercrew and got 13.99 with XLT, and 14.1 with my Lariat. These cars the throttle response and lack of low end tq. adds a few tenths to the 1/4mile time.
@@RevsALot it was on a non prep drag strip, also if you know about ecobost there is massive power losser beyond 5.5k rpm making non performance ecoboost not so fun try drive... you loosing up to 100 hp in a mater of 500 rpm you literraly feel like braking when you'r flooring it, ford performance tune fix it tho same for throtlle response, those are for gas economy...
@philippebrebion6203 oh you're talking about the Mustang. Don't those have 330hp and like 350tq. So almost 100 ft. Lbs of tq more, and it's lighter. On a roll the TLX would win against a stock 2015 2.3EB Stang
@@RevsALot a roll ? if you are not beating it from a dig i don't think can do much on roll
@philippebrebion6203 not true, my Q50 gets a faster 0-60 and 1/4 Mile then my TL, but my TL destroys it on a roll....not anymore though cause I JB4 the Q50 lol.
There is significant temperature difference in your 0-60 trials, and the lighter rim was tested on a more negatively sloped road.
I know it was warmer with the lightweight rims, so I kept more gas to try and add more weight. Either way, this proves lightweight definitely helps the acceleration👍.
When testing, the tires need to be the same; otherwise the test is invalid. So many make this error.
I guess that would matter if it had enough power to break traction, which it doesn't.
Older video but curious what the weight difference was between the two wheel options
I made a video of that a cpl videos before this one was posted. I believe it was around 8lbs. Per wheel
Did i miss the weight difference between each wheel and tire of before and after?
@@djcostin I can't remember if I put it on this video or the video where I got the wheels, but they're 8lbs difference each wheel.
I'd like to see the oem wheels have another go in a higher DA. According to DA racing calculators, the corrected time for the oems should run 14.7@95, and 14.3 for the new wheels
It did run a 14.7 @95mph with the OEM? It was warmer and higher DA with the lightweight wheel runs, so same temps it would've done even better.
I was looking at the results at time stamp 7.43 where it shows oem doing a 14.56? What was this time?
@@steve1714 ah k yah that was the OEM best times, it's not the most accurate test cause I didn't do multiple runs with both setups and temps and DA were different. This was just more to prove how much 0-60 improves.
No problem. So 8lb lighter per corner made such a difference? Good bang for buck
@@steve1714 yes definitely a difference, and stops a lot easier also.
How many pounds did you shave as total (4 corners) ? Very good test btw, congrats.
I forget the exact weight, but the before and after weight are in video. I'd say about 10lbs, so 40lbs. total. I have a digital scale now so future before and after weight will be more accurate.
no it def makes a huge difference out of all the mods ive done to my TL i noticed the light weight wheels the most
Same for me, felt the most gains with wheels and pcds.
@@RevsALot wats pcds
Pre cat deletes(jseries "headers")
Great stuff man. How much lighter where they lightweight wheels ?
8lbs. Per wheel lighter I believe
Are those bridgestone Balminum?
Sport comp 2, bfgoodrich I believe
You gonna make this car faster than the new type-s I’ll give you a year
I gotta work on my TL first haha, this is the gfs car she won't let me mod it too much.
Which wheels are you running if you don’t mind??
Superspeed RF05RR 19s with Sport Comp 2
Traded my 17 sh awd in June for a 18 is f sport but miss my tlx everyday was a great car just wasn't fond of the 9spd always gear searching
I know the returned the 2018-20 tranny for better shifting, I don't mind the 9spd at all we always leave it in Sport and seems to work best. I just hate the throttle response, and how long it takes to downshift when you floor. That can be fixed with pedal commander though. I love the is350 fsport🔥👌.
Nice!
Did kinda the same type of test with my previous car. 19”vs 18” wheels.(on the 19” wheels i had like 8.x kg extra at the 4 wheels). Did multiple 0-62 runs and the average with the 18” was 7.5s vs 8s with the 19”
Nice! They definitely make a good difference for 0-60 and braking distance.
@@RevsALot Indeed. Even from 62 to 125 in my case, 2.1s difference, I forgot to mention (only 181HP in my previous car).
Fire 🔥 love the color
Quick answer= yes.
Would you say the TL -SHAWD (305hp) are faster than the Tlx’s? Except for the Type S obviously
I would say so, but hopefully we'll find out for sure soon. Trying to snatch an auto 3.7 Aspec to swap the kit to my manual, and I'll make sure to line them both up stock for stock.
What was the difference in weight?
@@BunnyBUNGALO about 8lbs. Per wheel
@@RevsALot nice that's close to the difference between my stocks and the wheels I'm getting. Should be close to the same results. Pretty significant
@BunnyBUNGALO yes definitely noticeable difference
Looks nice
Great content as usual!! What if I swapped out bigger light weight wheels, would there still be a difference in speed? I.e. stock 17’s vs light weight 18’s.
Lightweight 18s should still be lighter then stock 17s👍.
Does a muffler delete and resanator void warranty ?
Not sure tbh, depends on the dealership.
We’re the front tires the same diameter?
Yes
We’re the Same tires used also?
No, but it doesn't spin so doesn't effect anything. I weighed the tire and rim together from OEM to these and it's about 8-10lb. difference each wheel.
Interesting my 2018 SH-AWD aspec is stock and I've gotta 5.8 second to 60mph
Timed with what though? Also the best we have is 91 octane.
That’ 1 second coast are 2500 dollars lighter rims and tiers tho😅
Gotta pay to play 🤷♂️. Ppl spend more then that per rim for some brands that are heavier then OEM lol.
Makes you wonder why car manufacturers don't put lighter wheels on a lot of cars. They're not thay expensive
To save room for car enthusiasts🤙 haha
About the throttle lag....my 3rd gen tl has it. Irritating. My 8th gen accord has way better throttle response.
Yah Acura does it for more luxury feel or something I guess👎. Pedal commander would fix this 100%, and would make it peel off the line.
@@RevsALot Yes, I have a pedal booster (same thing) and it's more responsive plus I have some superspeeds as well and it makes the car feel nicer.
If putting light wheels on a car didn’t make a difference then why do people gut their race cars/track cars🤔. Ppl are so stupid lol.
Exactly! I mean there's only a cpl ppl who were saying that, but still better to have proof👍. I'd love to reset the tranny and retry on a cooler night, can't see why it couldn't do mid to high 5s 0-60 and low 14s or 13.9x 1/4 mile.
@@RevsALot agreed.
@@RevsALot only one way to find out lol
It does, but it's negligible to the point most don't care unless you're racing and tracking a lot. If 3 tenths if a second off a quarter mile is worth 2k then go for it.
Well it shaved almost half a second off my 0-60 with this car, helps it stop a lot easier, easier on gas, makes it look way better, and keeps factory warranty. So, $1500 CAD for all that is definitely worth it if you're into performance at all.
How much lighter did you go per wheel?
7-8lbs.
FIRST!!
Didnt give us the lightweight wheel 0-60 with traction control off. Also I don’t think you fully turn off the traction control even know you hit the button for oem wheel. Here is a link how to disable the vsa and traction control you will notice the tc light will continue to blink. m.ruclips.net/video/xMI9ome6YL0/видео.html
From my experience doing this seem like the software is giving you grandpa and grandma mode. Turning it off to me made everything seem so much more responsive the main thing was no lag in the steering wheel paddles
Yes I turned TC off with both, and it doesn't have enough power to break traction so it doesn't matter. Also, that'll just make it so when drifting in snow it won't try to straighten you out. It will not effect how the transmission shifts, the sound from dragy isn't synced with the video for some reason so the sound is ahead of the video. The paddles suck nmw, it autoshifts and doesn't hit redline, same thing even with new TLX👎. As mentioned in video, I haven't reset the tranny and maybe that would help it wake up. 🤷♂️
My bad I you did do tc off 6:22.. From my experience turn off the vsa and tc. The tc light continuously blink while driving instead of solid light from my experience the car just feel more responsive and the shawd seem to gain a tad bit more power. Just saying give it a try
I'll give it a shot for sure, cause after 4k this thing wakes up nicely and the times aren't showing it to be as good as it feels lol.
SECOND
Lightweight wheels will get you good gas mileage on this TLX
A KIA STINGER?!?!? ROFLMAO!!!!!
This is the reason I want one haha, stock they can run low 4s 0-60 and mid 12s.
Hondas still slow as usual 😂
Yah, stock 290HP AWD 3900lbs. isn't going to be fast.
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevs
The 3.5 PAWS is quicker but only if the traction can be managed perfectly….which is very difficult. 0-100mph, the PAWS version checks out.
My sole track run:
www.dragtimes.com/Acura-TL-Timeslip-31646.html
That trap speed just goes to show how quicker the fwd is on a roll👍
