26 Aseprite Tips for Beginners

- I recently did a thread over on Twitter where I posted a bunch of small things I've picked up over the years.
Original thread here: / 1435600476666482689
Since people seemed to like it, I've combined them all into a single 8-minute video to put here, hope they help!
I elaborate a lot more on these techniques in the thread I linked above: when I use them, why I prefer them over others, etc. So, if there's some confusion surrounding a few of the clips, I'd recommend checking the original posts out.

Not only are these the best tips for Aesprite, but this dude has some of the most fluent pixel art animation I’ve seen 😮
Ay thank you 🙏
This is the best Aseprite tutorial. No blablablablabla babbling...just simple and quick text based video. I love it!
Glad you liked it!
Voiced tutorials are great too when they get to the point.
i hope a lot of people will say the same months after months : it's such an underrated video, and your art style is so good thank you a lot
Thanks!
Still underrated
That punching bag bird animation is beyond amazing. With the hit flash highlights and all that… loved it.
6:36 you can also just type "/4" after the width or height and it will divide it by 4 for you so you don't have to do any math. tons of great tips in this video though! i didn't know about several of these.
when someone looking for tips for Aesprite, this should be on the top of the list. Not showing me how to change my theme. This is helpful!
Thanks for your video and your advice, I'm getting into pixel art and the tips you are sharing are making my life so much easier

Hope it helped :)
wow. that's a lot! Ty!
Awesome! Thanks man ;)
love your animation, please do more tutorial !!!
damn I didnt even know onion skins existed, I was going back to the previous frame constantly to know what to do for the next frame which made me take really long on a single frame.
who else is more distracted by the animations than the words of wisdom😅
Thank you, everything I saw was spectacular. Great job
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello, thank you very much for this tutorial! I found new things thanks to your help :) However, I have a doubt, how to make the pencil despite the fact that the canvas is very large, still be made 1 pixel? Every time I enlarge the brush, the lines made are increased, and I only want the drawing to be made by 1 pixel, I hope you understand it and I await your response, thanks!
dude the art here is awesome. Do you make assets for marketplaces, companies or do you make your own games? It'll take years before I'll be able to make anything that comes even close to this.
inspired to make coffee at 04:00 and restart Aseprite.
Hey thanks man 😎
I have done some game animation work for a few people here and there, and I've done a couple hobby projects myself, but I gave it a rest a couple years back.
They were some nice experiences, but man is there a lot involved.
we need more videos please
This tips video is just Fabolous . too underrated . It was so useful thank you
You're very welcome, glad to be of help!
Opening then hearing Patrick Bartley shred was not expected.... lol
are you on twitch?
i love learning from these vids
I'm glad to hear it! I've done a bit of streaming on Twitch in the past but that was a looong time ago
this video is so helpful, question bro what does the scaling down downloaded work do? appreciate for the answer
Awesome, I'm glad to hear it 👍
The clip you reference is something I do when I want to create animations with somebody else's pixel art.
Most people increase the size when they upload their animations, and so this is how I bring it back down to normal size.
hope that makes sense!
Custom brushhh...DAMN
bruh they sold me aseprite with that.!!
Большое спасибо
Пожалуйста )
Does anybody know how to switch back to the legacy color picker?, all i can use is the color spectrum and color wheel. I am used to photoshop, so it would be easier to use the single color picker, but I haven't been able to change it
i like your art..
Thanks :)
hi. do you know how you can change the size af individual pixels? like the nft projuct weird whales the hats have smaller pixels. any help would be appreciated!
Double the size of the drawing
Que hermoso Pixel Art :)
Gracias hombre 😎
fukin awesome animations you do with that chicken
Ahahaha, thanks man
@@nootall thanks for the video, i'm starting with this and this is very handful.
@playbehnder I'm glad to hear it 👍
I decreased duration time of my few frames but When I export the animation, they turn into the normal speed frames, how can I avoid it? thanks.
Not sure about this one! I usually try to use the same duration for each frame.
If you're trying to make a few frames last longer, then your best bet is to duplicate the frames.
If you're trying to make a few frames shorter, you may need to make all the frames quicker, and then duplicate the frames you want to last longer.
Although, I did just experiment with exporting an animation with different frame speeds and it worked fine, not sure what's causing your issue
whats your recommended canvas sizes? I want to make pixel animations for yt.
I usually go for around 170px x 120px - somewhere in that ballpark, but it all depends on the style you want to go for. For many people, 50px x 30px is enough space, for me, it's not.
pls make a specific video about how to animating for beginners
YOU GOTTA TELL ME WHAT COLOR PALLETE UR USING .
Oh and btw ur talented keep it up
No particular palette! I have a default one set on the side but I don't really use it.
I'm mostly just picking colours as I go, so nothing I can share unfortunately :(
And thank you, I appreciate the kind words 😎
What's the song title please ? Great video btw !
Team Galactic HQ theme from Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
@@glossonema Thank you bro !
I'm sorry, I need to shrink the entire layer on all frames.. could you tell me how I can do this?
Sorry for being 2 week late, but if it helps:
Selection Tool -> Highlight the bit you want to shrink -> Highlight the Entire timeline -> Shrink the selection.
That should hopefully work
@@nootall thank you a lot!
replace color is huge for me, I thought I had to work in Indexed all the time
Super great video but when I pause and play it to read the text bar below. YT kindly covers over your text ^^;
me: oh, cool so now i can split them but how do i export just a that bit.
video: *shows how to do it*
me: *shocked pikachu face* how'd it know
🤫
how do you make that kind of smoth animations?
why attack after effects?
Ahaha. At the time, I was having technical issues with After Effects and made that animation out of frustration
cool, which program ?
Check the title brother
what palette do you use?
When picking colours, I tend to just freestyle and not bother with using a palette
@@nootall thank you, you are very good and I want to be like you
@@Ezayb no problem, that's very kind of you to say!
