  • Farm windmill failure explained. I describe how a stiffer spring arm might have prevent loss of a blade. The shedded blade held the magnet/magnet holder that served to activate the Hall effect sensor that provided the rpm of the rotor. When the spring arm bent in the direction illustrated the magnet/magnet holder made violent contact with the Hall effect sensor and likely the spring arm itself and resulted in the blade separating from the rotor assembly.

    The arm was fine, it was the fan that moved into the arm from precession. Think of the gyroscopic effect.
