Not really, it is on a different level when performed by the full orchestra. Piano transcription gives some idea of the music, but it is really miles away in terms of sound.
@@awanderer9000 thank you for your reply. I fully agree, and I feel it like a sketchpad for a painter. Some charcoal b/w sketches are paintings on their own. And adding orchestra is like expressing the same idea with the fullness of all colors and techniques. Yet, piano is capable of expressing the most of the idea that any other instrument cannot.
@@michaos1Disagreed. Even excluding the possibilities thanks to modern synthesizers, organs, although in the keyboard family as well, can do much more than pianos, especially with the number of timbre layers.
As much as this seems inappropriate, I was introduced to this piece of music in 1984 whilst playing 'Tales of the Arabian nights' on the Commodore 64. I was only 15 years old then, but this music has lived with me ever since.

A very well done 'condensed' version of the entire work. The only thing I thought he raced through was the soulful, solo violin part, but besides that I though it was an absolutely brilliant effort.
You are right. Leverage character Hardison played this piece in the violin. And surprise, the actor does play the violin beautifully, as we were able to watch/listen. Great show.

Here: www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=7839. Not like he plays it but it's satisfactory. This is by far my all time favorite piece by Rimsky Korsakov. Better even (in my opinion) than the much more well known Flight of the Bumblebee.
Yes, the Gilson arrangement! Found it myself a while ago and came here to find if there is a recorded version to get an idea of how it goes before going to work. Scheherazade is a magical classical work. It's relatively simple and straightforward but there's something really special in these melodies. The orchestral arrangement is superb with various solos and fine details (Rimski-Korsakov was a master in instrumentation IMO) that are inevitably lost in transcribing it to a solo instrument, but with a good player, the spirit of the piece can still be retained.
I always listen to Scheherazade when I'm travelling , just close my eyes and transferred to this entirely new world of enchantment
