    I always listen to Scheherazade when I'm travelling , just close my eyes and transferred to this entirely new world of enchantment

    Amazing how you fit an entire orchestra and the soul of this masterpiece inside a piano box.

      Not really, it is on a different level when performed by the full orchestra. Piano transcription gives some idea of the music, but it is really miles away in terms of sound.

      @@awanderer9000 thank you for your reply. I fully agree, and I feel it like a sketchpad for a painter. Some charcoal b/w sketches are paintings on their own. And adding orchestra is like expressing the same idea with the fullness of all colors and techniques. Yet, piano is capable of expressing the most of the idea that any other instrument cannot.

      @@michaos1Disagreed. Even excluding the possibilities thanks to modern synthesizers, organs, although in the keyboard family as well, can do much more than pianos, especially with the number of timbre layers.

    As much as this seems inappropriate, I was introduced to this piece of music in 1984 whilst playing 'Tales of the Arabian nights' on the Commodore 64. I was only 15 years old then, but this music has lived with me ever since.

      Not inappropriate. How many people were introduced to classical (Liszt) via Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry? Those are classics now (and rightfully so).

      They are either deaf or not educated in arts. No judging though, but what a waste of life if you do not appreciate at least one of the fine arts this world has to offer.

      Great description. This was my mother's favourite. She played this and other classical music when we were growing up. My father was a great pianist. I wish I had appreciated his talent more. Greetings to you from Australia (formerly from England.) Your English is very good.

      @@shin-i-chikozima You are welcome! I would love to go to Japan but since I don't intend to get the cv vax there is no hope for me to travel. The picture is my grand-daughter who I am unable to see for nearly two years. Long sad story but I have my memories. I used to have Japanese students stay with me and I love the Japanese people. They are the kindest, most loving and considerate people.

      @@shin-i-chikozima Thank you. I do not know Brucknerian or Prustien. My favourite classical music are works by Tchaikovsky. Although I do like Beethoven and Liszt and of course Rimsky Korsakov's Scheherazade. I am not concerned of cv 19 and will not be getting the jab. I am a Christian and I trust my Lord and Saviour Jesus for His protection. I do not trust the government. Please take care of yourself too.

    A very well done 'condensed' version of the entire work. The only thing I thought he raced through was the soulful, solo violin part, but besides that I though it was an absolutely brilliant effort.

      You are right. Leverage character Hardison played this piece in the violin. And surprise, the actor does play the violin beautifully, as we were able to watch/listen. Great show.

      Here: www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=7839. Not like he plays it but it's satisfactory. This is by far my all time favorite piece by Rimsky Korsakov. Better even (in my opinion) than the much more well known Flight of the Bumblebee.

      Yes, the Gilson arrangement! Found it myself a while ago and came here to find if there is a recorded version to get an idea of how it goes before going to work. Scheherazade is a magical classical work. It's relatively simple and straightforward but there's something really special in these melodies. The orchestral arrangement is superb with various solos and fine details (Rimski-Korsakov was a master in instrumentation IMO) that are inevitably lost in transcribing it to a solo instrument, but with a good player, the spirit of the piece can still be retained.
