- This video shows you how to wrap a Porsche Boxster 986. My buddy Chris who owns SunStoppers did most of the work, and I documented most of the process and tried to give some tips on how to do it. The video is LONG, it's DETAILED, but I hope it's informative and useful if you decide to take this project on yourself, or maybe just to help you realize you want to outsource it :)

Me yelling at the screen: “Lift the frunk lid about 3”!” You appeared to be fighting yourself trying to stretch uphill over the fenders when that area would be cut away. Great work in the end and great channel!
+@836dmar hahaha thank you! 🍻
Great job! Looks like a different car with the new colour and bumpers! Like the black with it too, that sets it off nicely.
+Gary L thanks! I love it.
...that was frustrating to watch, glad it turned out great in the end!
+@michaelsou4116 I learned I’m not great at wrapping 😂
Hello Aaron, great job...as usual! Have a question, where to find a back spoiler similar to the one you have on your car? please advice...Thanks
+@FrozenIarp thanks! Search my channel for “Joe Toth”, I have a full video on it. 🍻
No way!! This is exactly the video that I need for when I wrap mine. Thank you for always posting such helpful content; the car looks great!
+Takashi Essex thank you!!
I learned from CK Wraps. getting glass as he says on the vinyl will make setting that fender super easy. The outcome seems good but this was a little painful to watch on that front fender. I worry that some of those edges will fail. please keep us updated if that does happen.
+Jess H will do!
Nice job...can you post a link for the head and tail lights, TIA
+@Letsgohuskydawgs thanks! I’ve got a separate video for each of those with links in the description 😉🍻
I can’t fathom all the work for something that lasts 5 years best case. Your car looks good though.
+@robbelliii thanks! Good way to be able to change it up every now and then 😎
60' of material at 5' wide for this car? is that how much material is needed for the 986
+@t0pher45 sounds right.
How big of a roll should I need for a 2006 Boxster?
+@kngclan6755 link to the one I used is in the description
Bought my 98 when i was approved my military retirement, its been 7 years now, and the 26 year old paint is now showing a few problem spots in the clear coat... heartbroken, im deciding what to do, and search wrap, OF COURSE, Help me DIY is here to help... i think you bought yours at the same time I did, and youve been steadily supplying me with content.. I LOVE that front bumper. Thanks again
+PAsIvIN right on! Thanks for following along 😉🍻
Great videos and thank you for sharing . Why did you cut away @1:10:56 . That looked like a pretty hard area and then you were back to him pulling off the extra around the cover.
+William Axenfield thanks! I don’t remember why though 🤷♂️
@@HelpMeDIY It seemed like it was a hard area to deal with . Thanks for your replies :) love the videos
@@williamaxenfield3742 You got it!
Looks great. JB style. You'll want Aero kit 1 sideskirts to balance those bumpers ;-)
+BRAN dammit. More $$ 😆
It looks great from afar but far from great!
+Lars Walker agreed 👍
Orange is great! I never liked Guards Red on porsches, not sure why. I keep more classic/stock on mods like bumpers tho. Thx for all the vids, I just got a 987.2.
+@Josephpaulchu thanks! 🍻
OMG, that is a LOT of work. But great job.
+@ionianatlas7037 yes it sure is! 🍻
+@ionianatlas7037 🍻
I know it’s been a while but any advice for wrapping the side mirrors and side vents? I have no idea how to start with those complex shapes.
+Empyror beyond my pay grade 😂. I just used plasti dip and it turned out great!
I’m planning on wrapping my 986 this spring…my only concern has always been how well the wrap will stick to the rocker panel because of the textured surface
It sticks to the chip guard just fine no problems.
+Andrew Willig they used this roller tool to press it down into the texture so I think it will hold. Jan confirms it 😎
+Jan Bauer I was wondering myself, glad to hear it!
Why vinyl instead of paint ?
+Ray tried that first.
hello, this looks super nice! i just want to ask, how did you deal with KBD bumper, i ordered one and should get in 2 months because i don't live in the USA. so any advice would be helpful ! thanks!
+BT ITANIMAL thanks! Search my channel. I have a whole video on the bumper.
Hey Aaron. This has nothing to do with wrapping the Porsche. But I have a 2004 Porsche Boxster and it’s been sitting for almost 6 years. I’m trying to figure out the easiest way to drain out the old gasoline in the tank? Do you know a way to siphon or drain out the fuel in the tank?
+Joseph Zuranich maybe disconnecting the fuel filter under the car?
It's a W if YOU like it! Not a fan of orange myself, but it's not my car. But big points for not going black/white/silver. Too many of those dull colors on the road already. It does look like a decent job though (helps to have a professional there!).
+Jack Beckman agree with you on the boring colors! Cayman is black… better than white and silver but still wish it were a vivid color. Might have to Martini it up eventually 🤔
I did mine in my garage with a friend. Our biggest challenge was the rear bumper since it curves down so drastically. I found that the best things you can possibly do while DIY wrapping is to buy good quality vinyl (I went with Avery Dennison), have an adjustable heat gun, have a friend, and lots of patience.
+Jason Garrett all excellent things to have!
Nice! Was there any temptation to go blue for the rear-views and other matte surfaces? (I could imagine a Gator Nation bidding war if you ever sold it in Florida!)
+Kamakauke Two haha I may have considered that 👀
Excellent work! Looks beautiful. I wish I could do the same on mine.
+@wamiqsattar thank you! What’s stopping you? 💪
excellent work as always.
lighting is really annoying because it makes the front bumper looking more saturated than the hood, can not understand why..
again thank you for taking us with you on this trip ..
good work
+Ioannis Tsoupakis well… that’s because they ended up painting the bumpers because the wrap wouldn’t stick to the old paint that kept chipping off. But it’s close enough in most light 😉
i’m going down the road in my 986 and suddenly My windows go up. I put them back down…. sometimes immediately sometimes five minutes or more …. The windows go right back up!!
Any thoughts on how to correct this problem?? Many thanks… Lynn
+Lynn Eakin hmm. Did things in the car get wet? Seems like an electrical or a switch issue.
@@HelpMeDIY No.. car didn’t get wet. 🧐
Want to wrap my 986 hood and truck. About how much vinyl did you purchase?
+Alexander Cole there is a link in the description to exactly what I bought
WoW
+brice Maz 😎
Orange looks fantastic!
+@TheFastrider76 one of my favorites 😍
hoods are harder than they seem! I started with the hood on my first wrap... ended up having to come back to it for the same reasons you showed. great stuff; this is inspiring me to think about wrapping my boxster too!
+eddy eckart thank you sir!
Wow! It looks amazing. Well done. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you and keep it coming!
+Tomas Viglas thanks! Will do 😉
You are firing on all cylinders! New Cayman s and the boxster is looking sweet.
+uspaint 🔥 😎😁
Hello, how did you remove the “Boxster” emblem/ sticker?
+Dru Odil floss
could you put the link for the spoiler and bumper
+Tyler Wise I have separate videos for those and the links are in the description of those videos 😉
your friend has an interesting technique. I wrapped my Honda Civic twice and the way he does this I could not have done it with vivvid.
So how many yards of material did you order?
+Andrew Rolfsen there should be a link to exactly what I ordered in the description
Came out looking great, makes the 986 look fresh!
+Colin Ash yeah no one believes me when I tell them it’s 24 years old 😂
hey man ! great job! i’m looking to wrap my boxster ! i’m trying to order my film in 3M what’s the best dimensions to go with if you don’t want to spend so much on a full roll. especially with the car not being as big as an suv that would need a full roll
+trunell tardy thank you! I don’t know dimensions other than what I ordered. Link to mine is in the description
@@HelpMeDIY thank you for taking the time to get back to me! would you happen to remember if there was a lot of excess ?
@@trunelltardy5540 yes, a decent amount
@@HelpMeDIY ik you’re probably busy but last two questions. do you think i can get away with the 60”x25’ since there’s such an excess of wrap. everyone that’s gotten full rolls say they have a lot left over. how accurate is that. where’s the best place to by the tucking tool ?
@@trunelltardy5540 sorry it’s hard for me to judge. Possibly?
That came out beautiful. Good job guys.
+Ray Colon thanks!
Well, that took a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooog time!
+Bob Fognozzle yes it did!!!! 😅
I love all of your content...very helpful.
+Beverley Ludick thank you! 🍻
Looks great, love the back bumper.
+Jan Bauer yeah. Major upgrade. I like it better than the front!
get some black rims man
+///M-FEE yeah I may have to change them up now
orange makes it look much more modern
+@florider_hd I think so 🍻
I’m pretty sure I know why you chose orange, and I’ve been thinking of doing the same on the 2002 Boxster S that I just bought from my SIL. Go Gators!
It looks awesome!!
+Our Life Well Lived thanks!
Looks amazing especially the bumpers
I’m never wrapping a car but I have no need too . You’ve covered the worst paint job ever so all good
Well done 👍

Trick or treat

Great job!

First of all thanks for all the vids, I have a 01 boxster s so I will be using all your vids. Some advice for your build tho....def need side skirts to complete the body. And last thing is wheels and stance. Wheels make a car nice and stannce changes everything. The wheels you have on now completely kill the car. 18 inch wheels and either springs or coilovers will give you that look I know yur going for. The car looks sick tho, but without wheels and a lower stance it won’t look the way you picture it in your head brother.way you thing
+John Arellano thank man! Personally I don’t mind the wheels on this car, and by the way, it already has Bilstein PSS6 coil overs on it and it is super low. Also has wheel spacers, so I’m happy with the current stance.
This is good info for me. My Silver 1998 looks very used. Weird dents, scratches and marks all over. So either I keep the old look, have it resprayed, or wrap it myself. The thing is I really don't understand why you wrapped your car though. It looked great to me. Your bumpers needed work but you wound up spraying them anyway. So unless Orange was your primary motivation the whole excercise, although interesting, seems redundant to me.
+Andrew Farrow it was deceptive… looks great from a distance. Go watch my “worst paint job ever” video and you’ll understand 😂. Plus yes I wanted orange!
The dents will show up even more if you wrap it. Prep is very important.
@@hawkinsjd11 yeah. I figured I would have to sort the dents out first. But I also wondered if some kind of strange Matt effect wrap would help disguise the subtle imperfections.
Wait, you change the color because you wanted a different color? I need to make note of this. 🤪
@@janbauer752 I think I prefer the original colour over the brash new colour. 🙂
