- Featuring guest locomotive Spitfire from The Bure Valley railway Norfolk. The only thing that spoilt this a little was the weather for may it was the pits. In the morning it was so wet and damp you could not see much for steam . I tried to hold it together but it was hard . I need to find a way to record in that kind of weather. Later it was just windy , I had to leave at 15.30 to do some things in Hythe then get myself up to Sandling for Tangmere. My thanks to the staff and drivers of the Romney plus all the people who waved cheered it kept me going through some rough weather.
First class video Ian - Super shots there of very well kept loco's - The RHDR has always been a favorite of mine.
Cheers, Bob.
Très belle vidéo.Rare de voir 2 trains rouler côte à côte sur voies étroites;chose impossible en France.Je suis abonné à votre chaîne.
Some superb footage here Ian very enjoyable, seems like the weather got better as the day went by, thanks!
Even with the rain it is still a very nice video! Thank you.
great video mate, pity that the weather let you down.
Thank you for sharing
I'd love to go to one of these but North Wales is a long way from Kent. I went to this line in 2011 and rode behind 3 engines and saw all of them except Black Prince, Winston Churchill and The Bug. I also saw the blue diesel working. My best runs were behind Hercules and Sampson. I couldn't believe how much they were being thrashed. If I lived in that house, I'd never get anything done!
Many many years ago an RH&DR loco broke away from its tender. According to a fisherman at Dungeness the loco was exceeding 60mph, when it took off at Britannia points, and began burying itself in the ballast. Further Capt Howey (the original builder/owner of the RH&DR) had a Rolls Royce powered railcar that also exceeded 60mph on more than one occasion. The locos in normal traffic are quite happy pulling trains at the official max of 25mph, and even at 30mph are not being thrashed. Don't forget that at normal line speed these locos being 1/3rd full size are doing a scale 75mph.
William Roberts im sorry for the late reply and fully agree with you, I lived in a holiday home my former partners mother had on the sea front in Hythe I used to drift down there when we stayed there until it was sold , my last 2 galas have been not to good weather wise , one of the things going on the marsh to record . It tires you fast as well the wind gets up and your struggling on a cycle to get anywhere . But I think the shots are worth it . Twice ive tried to go further but was hit by a quick windy storm on both occasions drowning me and my equipment to the point it was dangerous camcorder wise to carry on . But im going again soon to hopefully spend a nice coupls of days there free of interesting but deadly weather. Thanks for a fine comment.
I came here back in 2007, gr8 place
