I'd love to live near this railway with my own USA diesels, steam locos & cars & a yard Yes would have a couple conversion cars so's I can pull their trains too
It would be interesting to see what one of the larger U. S. 15" ga. steam locomotives could do with 13.5 miles to "stretch it's legs", so to speak. I think that it would be especially impressive to put the ATT&NW's 4-8-4 #801 on the line with a 16 car train and see if it could beat the 65 minute running time for the Hythe-Dungeness express. I'm fairly sure that it would fit the loading gauge of the Romney, since it was built to 1/4 scale and the Romney engines are 1/3 scale. With oil-firing and roller bearings it should easily handle the distance non-stop. Coupling and braking systems would probably have to be modified or changed temporarily, but nothing impossible. After all, "Flying Scotsman" toured the U. S. in the 1960's on our mainlines.
611unterscharfuhrer the track is only bad in places, this is as the track is due replacement this winter, its just hard to do as they have trains running, EVERY day as they do school runs as well, but part of the track has been done near Dungeness, and it would of been done a while ago but they wanted to finish all the overalls on the locos first. 13 locos, 1-14, which as you can guess cost a lot.
What outstanding footage,,,,of a beautiful railway ,,,, smashing watch many thanks ,,,,, Alan
